I had read somewhere that an Ertz extension could lessen his cap hit for next season; I only hope that’s the case.  If an extension ties him to the Eagles for the next 3 seasons and beyond, that will queue up the speculation for the Eagles’ long term plans with Goedert.

I agree with everything you said.  His problem isn't executing when he is on the field.  His problem is staying on the field.

He has had some hamstring issues at times.  Not unusual for WRs and CBs occasionally.  Slay was slowed with a hamstring last year.  Jones followed up his lost season with a hammy issue.  That made him a bit timid last year to push it because the year before it never really healed.  I suspect that is why he pulled himself out of the Vikings game.  The core issue was a one time thing.

Desean has always been a really good route runner and does a decent job of protecting himself.  I do hope with the draft choices, they can use him wisely this year to maximize his production while minimizing his wear and tear.  Hopefully with Reagor, they can do some of that.  I also have hopes to see some Hightower reps.   Assuming JJAW isn’t a complete flop and recognizing we may see Jeffrey at some point mid season otherwise, it is possible we see a five or even six receiver rotation. If JJAW is healthy and the game slows down for him, I could see times where it might be JJAW in the X and Reagor in the Z.  If a slot receiver is in the mix, it could be Ward or Hightower.  If Hightower and Watkins prove worthy, wouldn’t it be fun to see a four man rotation of Watkins, Hightower, DJax and Reagor on occasion?  Does any team have CBs and Ss, even in the dime, that could keep up with that?  Especially if the fifth receiver is Scott or Sanders splitting out of the backfield.

I hope so to.  It would make next year more manageable between that and the amount of money we can roll over from this year.

I'm a little torn on Goedert.  On one hand I would totally understand if he wants to step out into a spotlight role for a different team if Ertz is still a focal point.  From the Eagles POV though, assuming Jackson/Jeffery are gone over the next few years that leaves us with a young cost-controlled group of WRs and RBs so why not spend a bit to lock down a pseudo redundant but pseudo elite player for a team that runs a ton of 12 personnel?  All that's predicated on those WRs and RBs producing which is a big question mark.  But if they do, the Eagles could theoretically extend Goedert and plan on Ertz coming off the books as guys like Reagor/Sanders are looking for a new contract in about 4ish years.

Zach Ertz is the type of player that will age well on a long-term deal. He wins with leverage/route-running, which never goes away. Jason Witten is still playing in the NFL. Gonzalez/Gates played for a while even when they couldn't run anymore. It's more of a question of value/price vs. production.

I'm surprised his family isn't telling him to retire

I'm surprised they still allow team huddles

Yup i feel ya. He was one of my favorite picks. I loved him predraft and I wanted the eagles to take him. I think the kid is going to be a stud for us. I love his versatility and i think he’s going to be a leader of that secondary in a couple of years.

Pretty interesting by lane. would be quite the feat

From the looks of it Brooks is coming back as a tight end or defensive tackle.

His role at Clemson was pretty much the same as Jenkins' role here last year, so I think he will have a pretty easy transition.

I have to believe that Mills is on a pretty short leash at safety. He doesn't really have the size to replace Jenkins, and it makes a lot of sense to leave him at CB2 if either Wallace or Park can fill that role.

Im excited about this draft class but i want to try and be realistic as ive bought into the hype far too often in the past and then been burnt. Im cautiously optimistic about the picks.

I really liked reagor coming out i was hoping he was the pick, he has a dynamic skill set and a great work ethic with nfl pedigree. I think he can be special, having said that hes also a rookie and showed a lack of effort last year at times when his crappy qb couldnt get him the ball, ima go out on a limb and say Wentz is a better qb than the dude throwing to reagor last year.

The hurts pick im not sure what to think, was a bit of a head scratcher im not mad and am going to assume eagles have a plan with him, whatever that is.

Davian Taylor i expect nothing from this year other than special teams, hes so raw i jyst cant see him contributing much on D.

Kvon Wallace while i dont think he plays a ton this year i think he was the steal of the draft, that he was still around in the 4th is beyond me but thankyou nfl. I think he vies for a bigger role year 2.

Hightower and watkins are interesting. Rumor has it when the pick was up the eagles were split on hightower or watkins, they of course took hightower then when watkins was still around next round took him. Both players are similar,  both slight builds both fast both struggled against press and contact in college i expect both will be in the rotation this year hopefully both can develop.

The 2 Auburn tackles are interesting as well. Driscoll fits eagles mold he can and has played tackle and guard and his best pro fit may be at center. Prince i think dropped simply to injury, if his knee checks out he could be a steal as hes pretty athletic big guy well see.

3 years from now i hope all 3 receivers are still on the team as contributors, kvon wallace is a starter and one of the auburn tackles is a starter as us davian taylor.

Oh i forgot bradley, i dont know i like the pick i like his straight line speed i dont know if hes anything more than a backup.???

I realize most of what i hope probably isnt realistic that the eventuality lies somewhere in the middle and thats ok.

As for hurts i just dont know, im confused still about that.

Plenty of holes on the roster but the good thing is at least the Eagles put themselves in a decent position to have multiple contingency plans going forward.  If even just one of Reagor/Hightower/Watkins/JJAW steps up the WR group is in decent shape.  If even one of Maddox/Mills/Jones/Douglas(/maybe Arnold?) can step up the CB group is in great shape with the addition of Slay/NRC.  At safety McCleod is decent enough that we really just need one of Mills/Parks/Wallace to step up.  LB is still a mess but that was expected.

Not ideal but also not a terrible position to be in.  Shotgun effect at positions of need.

The length of a contract is not cast in stone and team can move player before the contract runs out.  If they think Dallas is ready to take the top TE spot, Ertz can be moved and shift the cap to another team.  Obviously, if Ertz continues to play well, they can keep him and shift some of the plays to Dallas.  Would be interesting to see how they use these 2 this season.

Keep DJax on the outside where he can use his speed and stretch the defense down field.  He is a bit small to play inside and take the pounding playing inside.  I remember he was hit really hard playing inside in the AR era, after that he became hesitant to catch passes in the middle of the field.  The team has other WRs whose specialty is in the slot.  Let them shine there.

I agree with this because I don't consider Ertz to be very athletic or a type of player who gets by with those types of skills. I thought the same with Witten and it's why I think he's a good comp for him. He's a great route runner and he's smart. Those are typically traits that do not deteriorate over time

It’s going to be so weird seeing Witten play for the Raiders

Lol that's from constantly having to deal with injured players. You start planning for the depth that you'll likely have to use

Would be nice if that curse was finally gone though
