With rollovers, and the likely cap increase with new TV/gambling money (not guaranteed TBF), it'll be closer to 25M. That's workable. If they didn't do this, then it would have been catastrophic.

July 24, 20205 yr Some more math curiosity. I checked Dak Prescott's career record against teams that finished the year with a winning record. It is 13-19. Over the past three years, it's 8-16. I guess there's no way he should be in a troll's list of Top Fifteen quarterbacks since he has such a losing record.

July 24, 20205 yr Six with unlimited accrued seasons is pretty nice. You can basically keep replacement level players on the roster who will have familiarity with the playbook. That’s huge for bubble vets like Clement, Goodwin, Douglas, Jatavis Brown, etc.

Howie and Co built the roster with the contracts they signed with the belief that the cap would substantially increase, and as such was more workable. This whole covid thing isnt only killing people it could kill the eagles chances at staying fiscally competitive for years. Its generally accepted that Howie isxa capology god but i dont think this scenario was in the contingency plan. Not sure how Howie is gonna dig out of that big a hole.😞

In some ways, but it will force the Eagles to get younger and stay out of FA next summer, which some will see as a good thing. It will force the team to develop their draft picks. It also leaves little to the imagination as to who will be gone. Jeffery, Barnett, and Goodwin simply make too much vs what they offer. Other guys will need to restructure; I’m not sure how Brandon Brooks’ contract works if he retires but I do see that as a distinct possibility.
July 24, 20205 yr This is fun to look at and find $60-70M plus I’ve enough space for draft picks and other FAs.
July 24, 20205 yr There are some egregious salaries in there. As good as Howie is, that Alshon contract is as bad as it gets. McLeod costs more to cut than keep. We only save $1M by cutting Malik Jackson.

I think everything after that is workable.

Gross. On the QB it only proves how tight the move was. Better than paying a backup 9M or whatever we paid Foles. That wouldn't work at all these days.

OTC estimates if you restructure the core group of Cox, Wentz, Johnson and Hargrave you can open up roughly $44M. Cutting Alshon gives you another $8M. Goodwin (if his contract wasn't already restructured, currently showing $7M for 2021) is another $7M. Those moves put you at about $60 + rollover + other cuts and maybe an Ertz extension or some other kind of restructure. It's doable, but you are also kicking the can down the road more.

July 24, 20205 yr Cutting DJax, Alshon, Malik, Barnett and Goodwin in the 2021 offseason clears $31M. Let’s say the salary cap is $10M higher than the floor that was established today. We still have to find $30M in cap space and we’re running out of players to restructure. Wentz is an obvious one, possibly Hargrave. Cox will be 30 next season. You don’t want to get caught holding the bag. Graham already has an ugly contract with major dead money. Lane and Ertz I’ve played this game a number of times. Brooks could be restructured but with his injuries do you want to go that route?
July 24, 20205 yr Sucks he missed it though. He probably wont attempt another one now until the playoffs.
