Whew. We should be so much more fun to watch this year.

Are you being sarcastic?

As in they are giving him "too much” like they did JJAW last season?

I heard some reports in the offseason that he was up to 145 on the squat rack.  If that didn't sell you on him, I don't know what would.

Sounds like he needs to spend some time at meatmcginleys house

If we’re being completely honest, I think of Dillard goes down Or covid they’re just going to move Jason peters back to left tackle and play pryor at right guard. And whoever is the swing tackle is going to stay in that position.

It looks like Herbig is now in front of Pryor on the depth chart, or at least is getting time as the sixth offensive lineman. Also, I don't think Dillard has to get hurt for him to get benched. If he doesn't get a lot better than he was last year, I can't see them leaving Peters at RG for very long.

As far as Mailata, he probably won't get substantially better until he gets game experience. Either the Eagles are going to do that or they should let him go to a team that will, and I am guessing there are a bunch of teams who will give him a chance based on his tape from last preseason.

Some

From Zangaro...

Keep an eye on Rodney McLeod and Jalen Mills this season and how they work in the secondary with one another. In the last four seasons, it was normally McLeod playing the role of free safety and Malcolm Jenkins in the box, closer to the line. But in the first few days of training camp, we’re seeing McLeod and Mills switch off a little more.

I also view it this way. If Driscoll wins the swing tackle spot. You also have peters if dillard goes down and Driscoll fails. And move pryor into that RG spot. Also Matt Pryor whos played tackle and guard before to step in. You have plenty of guys that can be the 4th tackle who also have positional versatility as well. Add on Tega if he’s healthy imo is likely as capable as mailata as mailata has only played limited snaps in preseason and tega has played his whole life and at an Sec school. Frankly i think has a ton of upside if he is healthy. And both have health concerns as mailata has had back issues

I don’t think the Eagles have a swing T this year.  I think Driscoll is a RG/RT back up this year.  The only swing T candidate might be Seumalo but he will be a LG even if a T is out. I think JP is the back up LT because Pryor or Herbig can play RG. That makes Opeta a bit of a wild card.  He is getting looks at LG which in our offense, he seems best fitted for. He was a LT in college. Like the potential in him but potential doesn’t get a roster spot.  Don’t know how he is doing on the second line.  Cox is said to be having his way with the second and third team interior OL. Thing about Opeta is he may be best suited for LG of all the back ups.

What a waste if we don't re-sign Realmuto.

Yep. The strategy they seem to be going for is no traditional swing tackle. I believe I heard one of the podcasters say Mailata was playing some RT the other day, so he's really the only one practicing at both. Driscoll has been strictly RT and Pryor I don't think ever took any snaps at LT. It's basically Peters is your backup LT, Pryor your backup RG, RT, LG and Herbig your backup C, RG, Driscoll your backup RT if Pryor has to play anywhere. If things go bad it's going to be a lot of shuffling, and no real continuity.

We basically are deploying a positionless O-Line

I’m not being sarcastic at all. I’m excited to see Reagor all over the place, especially in the slot.

Imagine him and DJax running a go/post combo on the same side of the field. Poor safety.

Meat doesn't do squats you filthy casual. They serve no benefit just like pushups

I tend to believe the eagles don’t want to give him that experience (if dillard was pulled or hurt) with wentz back there cause they don’t think at this point in time he’s capable of being a productive starter. I’m not so sure the eagles believe right now he’s the top backup tackle. His preseason tape was nice from last year and i think a team would snatch him to give him a shot. I think he would struggle if you asked him to start at LT. I don’t think he’s close as people think.

Scary stuff.

Good point. Tend to agree they might just go without a swing tackle and just have versatile guys that can play multiple positions across the line. Also I agree if something goes wrong with dillard it’s going to be Peters at LT and herbig or pryor at RG.

i know bo wulf loves himself some opeta since they signed him last year. Would be nice to see him thrive at RG Instead of LG as Brooks has had two major injuries and we don’t have anyone in the pipeline as well as seumalo is young and in that LG position for the next couple years at a good rate.

Only issue With positionless oline is if dillard hurt/stinks, Peters eventually gets hurt then you are looking at LT of either the rookies or mailata. None of which have proven to be capable yet or played that position. But then again you are likely up craps creek anyway if that occurs

On Opeta, in college he had two offers.  He picked Weber State because they let him play DT.  He preferred DT over OL. I was a bit disappointed when we were down to three DTs last year on the active roster that when they activated Opeta, they didn’t have him play some DT.  I have always wondered if in practice he took some snaps there on the scout team.

Yea, when your 3 deep at any of the positions you are about to get screwed. I'm guessing they would just throw a body there and give him tons of help with Goedert.

That pretty much describes the giants right now (although they drafted my top LT), wasteam (who drafted a backup to start) and the cowpads if Smith is injured (today he was in TC).

Alvarez just got a line drive right to the nuts in the Phillies game.  Still made the play at first.  I'm wincing right now.

Didn’t know that’s why he made his decision to go to Weber state. Thanks for that piece of info. Makes sense why not just have him as an extra body with how things were going.  I have to go back to the exact podcast Where he goes in-depth on opeta from last year but bo wulf loved the kid and wanted him to make the roster all training camp.

I hope he’s ok. But Of course our best bullpen guy would get taken out by a line drive to the nuts.

This is not even close as a valid comparison.  Yes, Phil Simms was picked 7th overall in 1979, and Hostetler was a 3rd round pick in 1983, but Simms first several years were inconsistent at best and he suffered through several injuries.  Simms missed 1982, was benched by Parcells in 1983 and asked to be traded.  When he got another opportunity he was promptly hurt again.  He was hardly an established franchise QB by any means, and hedging against what he was would have made sense even if the Giants took someone else in the first round.

Carson may have had injuries, but he also was on his way to winning the league MVP in the 2017 year, when his team won a championship.  He signed a massive contract to be the franchise QB, and went out and led the team to the playoffs with the 32nd best WR group in the entire league.  Then the team went out and took a high profile QB in round 2.

In the modern, new CBA era, hedging against your franchise QB is an indefensible, insane position that will bring about a myriad of issues.

Trading for a guy to specifically be a backup.  Not drafting a high profile prospect in round 2.  Steve Young wasn't wanted by Tampa Bay.

The niners wanted Steve young enough to send a 2nd and 4th rounder to tampa so he could be their back up.

Is the eagles drafting Hurts with a late 2nd to be a back up much different???
