Is the eagles drafting Hurts with a late 2nd to be a back up much different??? I’m pretty sure Steve young was a first rounder in the supplemental draft and had first round talent. So he had first round ability just played for the awful bucs. He was deemed a bust but the niners thought he could be A nice backup and even eventually the successor to montana. So they were able to keep him as the backup for 4 years until they believed montana was done.

I probably could get it cheaper Than the others as everyone is down on him and if he does well then I got it at a steal. and if he doesn’t I didn’t spend as much money on it as the others will go for lol.

And this is what I hate about twitter reports. Exhibit A: ESP Exhibit B: Quote 3. Carson Wentz had his first padded practice behind his new-look starting offensive line. Carson Wentz, who looked good during Thursday’s session, had the chance to throw behind his new-look offensive line for the first time in pads. Jason Peters looked decent at right guard, as did left tackle Andre Dillard. The line held up against the backup linemen, which is expected but the biggest test will be Friday when everything is live. It will be interesting to see how the line handles the pass protection and especially the defensive linemen stunts. https://www.nj.com/eagles/2020/08/eagles-training-camp-observations-rookie-wide-receiver-shines-during-practice-4-takeaways.html

August 20, 20205 yr Part of why you have a swing tackle is because you have a guy who can play both sides. Those guys are rare. It's not just a matter of putting the other hand in the dirt. Right now we have one guy who has demonstrated that he can be that guy - Seumalo. There's a guy who can play all five OL positions. We've had guys in the past that could play four - Herremans being one of them - but never five, at least to my recollection. So, given that, do we have any candidates for four positions other than Seumalo? Maybe Pryor. Maybe JP. My guess is that Driscoll is being groomed for that too, although I expect they'll keep him in the G-C-G group for his rookie year. It helps that we can activate eight OL this season. To me that looks like the starting five plus Pryor and Driscoll and...? I would like it to be Mailata, but strictly at RT. If Dillard gets hurt, swing JP over and plug Pryor in at RG. If Seumalo gets hurt, it would probably be Pryor at LG. If Kelce gets hurt it would be Seumalo moving to C and Pryor at LG. If JP gets hurt, definitely Pryor at RG. And if Lane gets hurt I'd like to see Mailata at RT. A guy who could figure in here is Herbig; I'm thinking strictly at RG but I don't know - I haven't seen enough of him to make an intelligent assessment. He's big enough for the position but I don't know how he moves. JMHO based on little bits and pieces and a lot of guesswork.

Steve young signed 1 million dollars to play in USFL, he kept the check in a sock drawer because he felt he hadnt done anything yet to earn it. Hopefully he cashed it before the league folded😄 he was then drafted in the supplemental draft like all those other USFL guys. I know the difference between hostetler simms situation and steve young and joe montanna situation and hurts and wentz situation. What do they all have in common. All 3 teams had established vet starters with injury history and all 3 teams spent significant draft capital to acquire a back up qb. Giants spent a 3rd on Hos with Simms the established starter. 49ers spent a 2nd and 4th on ypung when Joe Cool was the league MVP and the eagles spent a late 2nd on hurts with Wentz as the established starter. Im not saying it means anything just refuting the claim that its never happened or doesnt work when it happend. Obviously worked for the giants as Hos won super bowl when simms got hurt and Young won a bunch of games with hurt joe on the roster and later a super bowl after joe left. Do i think wentz/ hurts take a similar path? With Wentz injury history its not out of the question.

Yup. It's one thing to claim you don't like the Hurts pick. Okay, fine, everyone's entitled to their opinion. But it's irritating when the argument against the pick cites history, and yet the history actually goes against the argument.

They tried him here at RT, I believe. My dim recollection of him is that he is pretty quick but a little stubby for tackle in the pros. Don't rely on me.
