Someone refresh my memory... how were the camp reports for JJAW last year?

Positive.  And he confirmed it with the great preseason game against the Ravens. And then came the regular season and it all fell apart. But the early reports were good.

The "reports" were positive but I don't remember seeing a single play of him absolutely beating a veteran CB....let alone the half dozen videos we've seen both Watkins and Hightower do exactly that; this training camp.

A video is worth a thousand "words" and so far, the training camp tapes from both Watkins and Hightower look pretty darn good, imo.

I have to believe one of the reserves has to play C. My guess is Herbig as I don’t think Juriga is anywhere close to ready yet.  I think that is why we are seeing Herbig playing some RG, C and sixth OL. He actually looks like he slimmed a bit this year although he still leads in the Hank Fraley look-a-like contest. I do remember at the combine being surprised at his feet in the OL drills last year.  I called him a slug and I am pretty sure I was wrong

What I hate about the seven on sevens and then the WR/DB catch games is no one in the media is over covering the DL and OL.  Not a single shot of that on film that I saw today.  Football is won in the trenches.  I want to see how Opeta handles DTs. I want to see if Herbig can pull.  I want to see Juriga snap and punch.  I want to see if Mailata can handle bull rushes and other stunts.  I want to see Tega Wanogho keep his arms up and slide in pass blocking.  Maybe tomorrow in the 10-10-10s we will see some of that.

I also have to say, I kind of want to see Rush on Peters.  Does that punch with anchor move the mountain.  Anthony Rush is a big man.

Yup, and all of that stuff we could at least get a good initial look at in preseason games, if this were a normal year.

Thing is, once the season starts they can't afford to put a young player in a spot where he may cost us games, so I think the Eagles will look to stick with the guys from last year as much as possible when maneuvering the roster for those next-man-up positions.  Specifically, Herbig, Opeta, Mailata, and Pryor.

Hightower looks good in shorts... Even though its one on ones, his cuts are crisp and his speed is evident. We will have to see if that continues.

After the wallace pick, he was my next favorite pick based off where they were able to draft him and how i thought of him. HE nailed it when he said he reminds him a lot of Robbie Anderson. That’s who i see when i watched him at Boise state. I think he has a chance to be a solid player in the nfl with some good development. I expect bigger things from him next year.

WR's should be D Jax, Reagor, Ward, Hightower, Watkins and JJ.  When Alshon comes back, trade him ASAP.

I remember baldy saying something dumb comparing him to like Antonio brown. Everyone else he had solid reviews and then he had that really good preseason game.

Yea, once guys started going down, and that week ~10 wall hit, it's like he was overwhelmed and not paying enough attention to his fundamentals.  Lining up wrong, running the wrong routes, etc.

Not sure how many takers you are gonna have on alshon especially when he hasn’t shown anything on the field in a game after recovering from the injury.

It might be a challenge to keep 6 WR's on the roster but at this point, they might not have much of a choice.

I highly doubt that either Watkins or Hightower will last on the practice squad.  (A team will likely sign either one).

Some tough decisions coming up for the birds, imo.

Besides what others have said, there was a lot of talk about how dominant he was in the red zone. Hands, leaping etc were on full display. He also scored a long TD in team drills, basically the length of the field

Humphrey, Brandon Carr and Jimmy Smith all played for the Ravens in the preseason game against the Eagles when JJAW had a big game. So he clearly faced some quality competition.

Also, unless I missed the memo where the Eagles signed numerous free agents, the corners that Hightower and Watkins are playing against this year are the same guys that JJAW played against last year, with the obvious exception of Slay, whom I doubt is giving 100 percent in training camp.

Do you remember JJAW flat out beating any of those CB's?  Not even mentioning beating Slay...numerous times already this camp.

And the point stands that both Watkins and Hightower have looked really good...especially for 6th & 5th round picks, respectively.

Reagor has also shined but that was to be (somewhat) expected for a 1st round pick.

The fact that both Watkins & Hightower (6th & 5th round picks) are getting more hype both in reports and on video than JJAW did last camp (as a 2nd round pick) speaks volumes.

I'm giving JJaw a clean shot this year.  He had a crap OC and WR coach last year. Kind of tough to be great as a rookie with limited support.

Ain't no one paying for Alshon.  We just gotta ride him out this year and hope he can contribute when he comes back.  He may have lost a lot of speed but hopefully he can be a reliable set of hands...maybe.

I don't think we need to rewrite JJAW's history to feel any different about Watkins and Hightower. He was universally considered to be a great pick last year due to his production in the preseason. Then he struggled in the regular season. It happens, and it happened to Dillard as well. And no one saw that coming, or if they did they didn't post about it here.

Hightower and Watkins have looked great. So did Mack Hollins a few seasons ago. I am not saying that they won't be good, but our recent history has shown there is a big leap between looking good on Thursdays in August and looking good on Sundays in October.

Thing that sucks is you probably are going to have to boot a WR if he comes back. 7 seems like overkill. Only realistic ones would be Watkins/Hightower, maybe Ward.

Sounds like a job for the phantom IL designation.  See which guy is contributing the least at that point and/or has some vague sort of injury and toss him on the IL.

I love the people thinking Alston has any trade value

I agree we still have a long way to go before anointing any rookie "the real deal"...we're only in training camp.

And we usually deal with "recency bias" at this stage...but it's still refreshing to see...

A. Speed at WR

B. Good deep ball tracking at WR

C. Good route running/cutting at WR

We've seen all 3 from the younger guys (Reagor, Watkins, Hightower).   So if that trend continues, we might be in for a really nice season from the younger WR's

I don't remember seeing that from JJAW last camp...but I could be wrong.

As far as Dillard goes, he played fine when given the chance last season.  The entire "attitude" conspiracy theory didn't come out until well after the season...and seems to be way overblown by a few select "naysayers" out there.
