Problem is those situations happened you just don’t hear about them. Doesn’t mean at one point a team was not considering it and then decided to take a position player besides a backup QB. And that positional player played a pivotal role in a title or team’s success. So you have 3 we’ve discussed. There easily could be 3 or more we never knew the team thought about backup and went elsewhere to a position that paid off bigger dividends then if they went backup.  That’s very likely and just as likely when a team went QB high instead of another position.

pure hypothetical on my part. 2007 what if the eagles were down to Eric weddle and Kevin kolb. Went kolb and thought he could be the backup and either become the starter or get value back. Meanwhile weddle solves a ton of The safety issues for a long period of time especially when dawk left. They got value back for kolb (still wasted it) but weddle wound up being a pro bowl caliber player For 8-10 years. That’s somewhat Of that I’m saying. We don’t have those stories to show the opposite side that very well may have occurred. Or in 2015 let’s say hypothetically the vikings were down to Bryce petty and hunter went within 20 picks of each other.  Obviously made the right choice. Could also have 2012 where the eagles took kendricks and curry in the second and could’ve taken Wilson. (That story we somehow have).  We don’t have most of those stories to compare to see how many of those success or failure to compare to the two you brought up.

Dude i think you are over thinking this.

The OP said using high picks on a backup qb.  never works out.

1 person claimed hostetler.

I claimed Steve Young.

Those 2 examples disprove the blanket statement that using high picks on back up qbs " never" works.

Cant find the tweet/artcile but I *think* I saw that the Eagles put a waiver claim in for a Wide Receiver that the packers let go.

They also said it was for camp legs. Wasting a waiver claim is a bit strange on a body for camp, in this type of year is strange no?

I'm not sure what you are getting at with "wasting a waiver claim". They aren't limited to claims and its not like the order resets now that they did

Good luck to River Boat Ron, glad he caught it early, lymphoma is fairly treatable hope hell be ok

You'd be ok with going from 2nd in the waiver order to 32nd because you needed a body in camp lulz. ok then

It doesn't work that way. You're getting all riled up over absolutely nothing.

The order absolutely "resets" The eagles we're 14th I believe and "won" the waiver claim over someone in the 20s.

Because they did this, the Eagles are now 32nd in order. So now instead of being... low teens when final cuts come in 2 weeks the eagles are probably going to be dead last.

No. Its the same as the NFL draft order for the entire offseason and first 3 weeks of the season. Then it changes to current record

Best wide receiver on your playoff team last year and probably your wr3 going into this year. Jerry Rice, no. great find on the waivers. yes.

how does the waiver wire work... curious

https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-players/nfl-waiver-system-overview/

Once a club waives a player, the 31 other clubs either file a claim to obtain him or they waive their chance to do so (thus the origin of the term "waiver”). Clubs are assigned players on a priority basis. From the first business day after the Super Bowl until the day after the third regular season week, assignments are based on a claiming order that is the same as the order in which clubs selected in that year’s Draft. From the beginning of the fourth regular season weekend through the Super Bowl, assignments are based on the inverse order of their win-loss record. For example, a team with fewer wins will be awarded a player off waivers ahead of a team with a better record. If a player passes through waivers unclaimed, he becomes a free agent.

So it works on draft order until after the 4th game of the season, then it's by record.  The earliest bye week is week 5.

There will be so many waiver claims before the season starts at this point it doesn’t even matter

It was my understanding that the draft order starts the process and then becomes fluid(i.e. Cinncy puts a claim in over the Eagles, Cinncy moves to the back of the line)

Then when week 3 ends the order resets by record and gets locked in.

There doesn't appear to be any re-ordering once a claim is made.

No. Teams always retain priority. Cincy could claim every single guy cut and still have the #1 pick until it changes in season

So lets say Arizona is 0-3 going into week week 4 and get waiver priority #1. They're locked into that number 1 spot all year long?

It changes each week after week 3. Then locks in at the end of the season to match draft order

I don't think so.  I think the language means they re-order the priority of a waiver claim every week after week 4 because of the phrase "From the beginning..."

Meh.  Could have some sort of "slight"tenderness somewhere...Eagles "bubble wrapping" him on a physical day of practice.  I wouldn't read too much into it.

This looks sort of like the Opening Door drill down at LSU.

He’s listed as an illness. Seems something not Covid is going around

Yeah not really concerned for injuries, just wanted to see updates on him during a live tackling practice.

Duke Riley and someone else had some kind of illness earlier in the week also.

Good it’s not COVID but not great for a season outlook that something else is spreading so easily.

Just the plague or something. It's fine
