So here's an old argument.  Video games.  I have a neighbor with a 10 year old kid.  He was helping us do some yardwork the other day and he was complaining that he couldn't go back inside to play video games.  I asked him what he plays.  He told me Fortnite and GTA.  I then asked what do you do in those games. His answer was the following, without even having to think about it.

"In Fortnite I go around and just shoot a bunch of people and kill them until I win"

"In GTA I steal stuff and try not to get caught by the police"

He's only 10, he's nice and I'm sure he will grow up to be fine but this is what kids do.  You can't tell me this doesn't have an impact on brains.  They are numb to violence, numb to effects their actions have on other people and have no respect for police.  The more the media/social media/athletes promote the police as bad guys (they aren't) the more you are going to have people not listening to commands...if you don't listen to what the police ask then more than likely they will get shot. Wash.  Rinse.  Repeat.

Games aren’t the problem.

I'm pretty sure that 99.5% of people playing videos games recognize them for what they are, harmless fantasy. That .5% though ........... And desensitizing people to violence is a thing. Read up on how concentration camp guards were trained in the 3 rd Reich. Read up on what the concentration camp guards hanged as a result of the Nuremberg trials were before they were recruited. Pretty scary, really.  There but for the grace of God go I, or you.

Not the best of picks from the start, so many had said it. Howie needs to start being looked at. Time for a new visionary leader for this team. Howie can still be here, but not as the final say GM anymore.

NBA players decided to resume playoffs.

Maybe they realized they boycotted for a guy who was a criminal doing criminal things and they look stupid.

There's a long history of human violence that pre-dates videogames.

Armed insurrection in response to constitutional government wasn't the basis for the 2nd amendment.  I mean you don't want the BLM protesters to take out guns and shoot police? Or are you advocating that was part of the design of the 2nd amendment and they would be justified in shooting cops.

Not questioning that at all.  I'm just saying when you look at the events in our country right now.  Seems to be a growing problem.  Shoot/kill/no emotional attachment or regard to other human life.

hah yeah NBA should tell them they messed up the entire game schedule, agreement made with disney to occupy the area until X date when finals end which affects the wages of countless workers on disney property as well as all other peripheral NBA personnel, and on campus medical personnel who are doing all the testing. Too late. Go home and get no pay.

At the very least, when this does resume, they should all have to play back to back nights until things are back on schedule.

Not saying they are the problem but it just shocked me that those were his answers.  I get it, the majority of people know how to differentiate video games from reality but when a kid is playing games for 8-10 hours a day.  Mindless killing, stealing to get points...I dunno.

Him being a criminal or doing criminal things was never the point. The police’s response wasn’t justifiable, criminal or not.

Your hindsight is impressive.

Noooooooo. They knew they were going to lose money out of their own pocket and if they didn’t go back and play and finish the season that will reflect in their bank accounts. That’s what this comes down to. It’s the almighty dollar speaking.

also feels like the Larry O’Brien trophy is more important to some of these players.

and I was more than fine if they wanted to "boycott” but do it for the rest of the season and make an actual statement where you are sacrificing something to get change. Instead you basically just told me you protested for a day or two and called a postponement. They really didn’t sacrifice much because they are still going to play those games with next to nothing changed a couple days later. They brought light to the issue which had been brought to light prior to them doing anything and all over the news. Sorry a boycott isn’t a 24 hour thing and then go back to what you were doing. That’s called virtual signaling and what protestors who claim they went to the protest then say well i did my job.

No, if you get caught with a stolen gun, you get the death pentaly. Do not pass go, and it gets done in 48 hours. I bet we see a lot less Gun violence with just that one enforcement one rule

No youll most likely see less stolen guns but not gun violence.

Gun violence accounts for suicide homicide accidental fatal or non fatal shootings, many of which happen with legally obtained guns.

One can argue well if one makes it difficult for criminals or people with violent intentions to illegally obtain ir legally obtain guns then they turn to other means like knives. (Common pro gun argument(How often do people accidentally stab themselves or their children with knives and what % if those people die from said accidental stabbing compared to accidental shooting. One could say well people looking to complete suicide would turn to knives, data suggests that people dont often use knives to kill themselves because it takes more effort than the killing efficiency if a gun. Most likely they would resort to non lethal means like pills.

One can say well then will use knives for violent purposes or other strong arm means. In countries with no guns knife violence increase as do home invasions. But the number of deaths by those means are greatly exceeeded by gun violence in same cases. If one has a knife i might be able to stab a few people in a crowd got an AR 15 with a bananna clip a high powered laser scope i can easily shoot 35 people from a vegas hotel room a 100 yards away in under a minute. Cant do that with a knife or a rope pills or a toaster, maybe a car.

Implementing common sense gun laws that could decrease gun violence is a less complicated course of action then implementing the death penalty which interestingly isnt enough of a deterrent to keep people from murdering each other.

That’s on the parents. Those games have M ratings. If the kid isn’t mature enough to know the difference between games and reality then they shouldn’t be playing those

If that were the case whats the point of seat belt laws in a car???Seat belt laws have shown to decrease vehicular deaths yet if "stupid laws"  only hurt people that follow the rules why not just enforce speeding and traffic laws with stiffer penalties for those jerks on the road causing all the violence by recklessly driving and get rid of those stupid seat belt laws?

Seat belt laws in many states come with the caveat that a defendant cannot argue the injury a plaintiff suffered would be less if they had worn a seatbelt.  Seatbelt laws are to protect the coffers from the expense of injury.  The Highway Safety Institute drives car safety. The Institute is funded by insurers.  Less injuries is great for people but means less cost for insurers. Same with five mile an hour bumpers reducing property damage claims.  Collision avoidance, lane change warning, Side warning feature, back up cameras, heck even intermittent wipers.  All driven to make cars safer.  Next one we will see expand to all vehicles is headlights that turn when the steering wheel turns.  Notice that insurers care less about motorcycle helmets because those claims typically fall to Medicaid as health cost claims not auto insurers.  Why do you think idiot bikers got helmet laws changed so they can ride with the wind in their hair with freedom until they lay their bike down,  rack their head on a curb and become a Medicaid burden to the rest of us.  Insurers don’t cover most gun shootings.

If I really though the Cops had declared open season on minorities BLM protesters would be well within their rights. I don't think the cops have declared open season on minorities. There are exceptions like the ex-cop in Minnesota that will spend many years in prison.

I know I don't like those games for my son but I'm not sure how much of a long-term impact they have on violence. I think the bigger challenge is radicalization through internet groups.  I mean there's just a ton of crazy radical things out there that isn't filtered and they are targeting kids.

I also believe that you and I are on the same page as to illegal guns.  Frankly, some need to realize that the majority of Americans are aligned on most gun laws.   I think you and I differ on assault rifles.  I have no issue with a five shot magazine. I do have an issue with extended magazines, bump stocks and silencers. I am also a big fan of gun safes or trigger locks in homes with children.

Those sound like common sense gun laws😉
