Eh, we're gonna disagree. Besides considering who is reporting it who know how accurate it is.

Can we really disagree on that? Him coming here to play RG was obviously a last resort. The money he wanted wasn’t there.

Peters’ contract has bonuses built into it. The Eagles could just guarantee some or all of them so he gets $6M. Not a bad compromise.

Wouldn’t that also free up a bit of extra cap?

Interesting twist, Peters wants more money to play LT.

I was going to make a comment before this tweet, that it speaks volumes if Peters is still practicing at RG the day after Dillard’s season-ending injury.  Obviously a page has been turned on Peters at LT.  Full disclosure — I do not agree with most observers that Peters played well at LT last season; to me he looked slow, out of shape, and was well below average vs speed edge rushers.  This season might be even worse, but he does look like he’s lost weight and gotten into shape.

I’m not sure I believe this tweet but at the same time it would not be out of character for Peters.  My perception is that Peters always refused to restructure on contracts when requested — someone please correct me if I’m wrong on that — so it would be consistent with that perception if he did indeed tell the Eagles he wanted more money to play LT.  If the story is true I’d have a pretty standard reaction if I’m Howie and Doug:

— you were brought in to play RG; since you’re not amenable to switching over to LT to help the team you will remain at RG

— you will be evaluated daily in your performance at RG.  If the coaching staff believes there is a better option at RG you will be unemployed.  If you don’t like it, let us know now; you can be unemployed now

Since there's no football related stuff at the moment

Can anyone think of an NBA team that has traded away more talent than the 76ers and got so little in return?

Chamberlain for Darrel Imhoff

Moses for Jeff Ruland

Barkley for Jeff Hornacek.

It's enough to make you sick

Thanks for the pick me up for us working stiffs slamming a quick bite to eat.

I definitely lost some respect for JP with this news.

Just pay him he is a first ballot hof an Eagle lifer and still a top 10 LT in the nfl. I have zero problem paying him.  One of the greatest Eagles ever.

No, he's not.   Need proof?  He sat on the free agent market the whole spring AND summer, and no team bit on him as a LT.

One of the greatest Eagles ever?  Sure.   Currently worth all the fuss?  Not exactly.

If his agent didn’t build in a contingency for JP to play LT, this is on the agent.  JP is experienced enough to know that.  Agent doesn’t confirm it, JP doesn’t utter it.  The team doesn’t comment on it.  "NFL (not Eagles) sources” tell McLane this.  I don’t buy that McLane’s sources aren’t the voices in his head.  I have had way too many McLane "sources” stories to bite anymore.

Yup.

And as for your statement on McLane... yeah, he's got an axe.

I just got this notification. Wow. I wonder if he’ll be an a-hole about it and hold out now

It’s not he’d play the entire season either. I’d be surprised if he didn’t play 50% since he’s always taking himself out and gets dinged up

Me to JP: love you, will pay you more in bonus but tied to playing time.

JP to me: don't be stupid.

Me: too late

If the Eagles brought Dawkins back as a SS, needed him to play FS after an injury...do you think he’d say no and ask for more money?

Peters may (once) have been a singularly talented big LT, but he’s not who you think he is as a teammate, mentor, and person.

And now that his physical ability is mostly gone, he’s not the asset everyone thinks just by virtue of gracing everyone with his presence and leadership.

The Sixers have the absolute worst trade record and it isn't even close.  It's this reason why I don't want them to trade either of Simmons or Embid.  The return is going to be pennies to the dollar.

Well... right now its a rumor.  Wait for a direct quote or a statement from the agent.

By October, OL will be:

Pryor-Seumalo-Kelce-Driscoll-Johnson

Lane hasn’t practiced in a while, hopefully he’s okay.

While I don't disagree with the sentiment about the trade history of the Sixers...

All those trades were made by different front offices, so its not like they are related.  They are only related due to the fact that those individuals worked for the same team, but in different decades.  Different owners... just no real connection.

That said, I don't think I trust Elton Brand to make that history change either.

I know none are related but man they just suck at it and like you, I have no faith in Elton Brand do make the right moves.

Your argument is kind of moot if JP is actually asking for more money to play tackle. He’d be doing exactly what you elude to as being asinine.

And I absolutely would not do a job for someone else outside my pay grade. If that person cannot handle the job they shouldn’t be there in the first place. If you want me in that job, you give me incentives to be in that job, or I’ll remain doing the job I was hired to do. I’m not a fing slave.

You will never excel in business with that attitude.  The willingness to step up is noticed in almost any profession and typically rewarded when review time comes along.  I found it broadened my knowledge and made me more valuable.  I never said to an employer I am not doing that function because it isn’t in my job description.  Heck, that is why a lot of HR types would include in a job description "other duties as assigned”.

Unless JP’s contract says RG only, he signed to play football.  With your attitude, the Philly Special doesn’t work because Nick didn’t sign a contract to be a receiver and Trey signed to play TE not QB.

Even a good GM (and Brand is not that) is not going to get anything for Simmons.  And they aren’t going to get any franchise level players for Embiid.

The "return” for trading them is simply a head start in the rebuild and the lottery picks associated with it.

Might as well let things play out for another year, no matter how certain the disappointing ending may seem.

I don’t need you telling me what I can or can’t do in business.

I suppose I should just lose out on wages because I should look more kind and professional to the people who could cut me at a moments notice and not bat an eye? Sounds like a sure fire way to lose out on money to me.

So, with your logic, if I am a line cook but the head chef leaves and they ask me to take over the head chefs duties permanently, but remain at minimum wage, while the head chef had been paid eight dollars more an hour than I was, I should just sit back and be ok with that?

Yep. Nothing from the Eagles, nothing from Peters, and nothing from his agent. Just "an NFL source. I'm thinking it was another reporter over a few beers, saying ish.

A common phrase in a few contracts I have seen: Other duties as assigned.

You’ve gotta draw a line in the sand if you want to be feared and respected by the players.

Allowing a player who pulls himself out of games, doesn’t practice with the team, and received zero interest from anyone else to refuse to help the team at a more desirable position without being paid more money crosses the line.

Cut the fat slob.  It sends a message not to and it sends a message if you do.  Choose which one you want to send.

Your football knowledge is second to none, and I agree with 99% of your takes on this team, but I am surprised by this statement.  His false starts are annoying, and his injuries are bound to happen at 39 years old, but maybe show the best LT in Eagles history a little more respect than this.   This isn't Mad Men, and running an organization out of fear is the best short term solution to create a long term problem.  "Cutting the fat slob" who is possibly a 1st ballot HOF candidate (and who we need desperately after losing 2 starters) will have more detrimental effects to this locker room than keeping him.

I would argue that my football knowledge ranks behind many.  Sometimes it is just time to move on.
