I had an in depth convo with a friend of mine awhile back about this.  I personally value a dominant DT over a dominant DE.  I might be wrong, but I'm open for debate.  

I'm not sure if the Eagles are doing it on purpose, but if they are, I agree with the philosophy.  The only way to stop the greatest QBs has been to destroy the pocket up the middle.  The immobile QBs (Brady, Brees, Rothlispuke, Rivers) are all so good at moving around in the pocket if there isn't any pressure up the middle.  A few quick shuffle steps to avoid the outside pass rush along with their ability to sense the pressure is all they need.  If the middle is blown up, it ruins all of that.  A dominant pass rushing force at DT is so rare too.  There's Aaron Donald on his own planet, then further down is Fletcher Cox, and further down is everyone else.  

I may change my mind soon though with all these mobile, athletic QBs like Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, etc.  An athletic edge would seem to be vital against guys like that if they become dominant.

I kinda caught on to this philosophy a few years ago and learned to focus on the proper type of DEs to couch scout for our team, and I think BigEd maybe got on board with the thinking.

An athletic edge rusher is usually a speed rusher, which doesnt work as well with the dominant interior. If the athletic edge rusher gets up field too fast, then  you leave a big hole for the QB to escape through and negate the work your DTs did.

This seems to be why the eagles have focused more on stronger bull rushing type DEs who play the run well and just collapse the pocket even more on the QB. Rather than DEs who are great at getting to the QB.

However, Barnett causes issues because he has to completely sell out to have any chance at getting to the QB. Hes not strong enough, or athletic enough so he just really has to go go go. And he loses contain consistently. If we had a bunch of non-washed up Grahams that would be ideal for this style.

 

But, over the last season I got a little tired of not being able to mix it up. I would like some athletic speed rushers for certain situations. 

92 seems low for Slay. Would have guessed he'd be higher.

Adding to my post above, it will be important to watch how the new rule outlawing bull rushing affects our strategy.

If we get called too much for that, we may have to go back to fastballs at DE.

They are probably accounting for the fact that we have signed him. Seems about right that he will regress now.

Find it really hard to believe kelce and brooks are not higher than 94 and 98. 
 

I'm pretty sure that the center and right guard for the Bucs -- whoever they are -- are way better than Kelce and Brooks.

I think he wants to play for the Eagles and I think he’s wait to see what happens in camp before signing on another team As it makes little difference now also someone might get hurt elsewhere and increase his value. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back if Avery and miller both aren’t what they expected. 

I totally forgot about him.  What a strange deadline trade.  Glad they were able to incorporate him quickly.  👀

I'm all in for athletic speed rushers.  Maybe we have one in Avery, but I doubt it.  Chances are 2 of the 4-5 rotation at DT have a season-ending injury anyway because Eagles.

Yup. I’d be more interested in a GM/scouts list focused on actual talent than these lists filled with pizazz plays players

Unless they play for the Cowpukes.  There is no analysis in this top 100 list at all IMO.  Travis Frederick will probably be in the top 100 next year even though he retired.

I’m in the mindset of a dominant DT is more valuable and makes the DE’s look better. Push up the middle and disrupt the pocket will put you in a more favorable position almost all of the time. Yes, there are athletic QBs that can roll out, but I’d still say, with no actual research, it’s better to get the majority of QBs scrambling.

If you know Schwartz this is definitely done on purpose. Everywhere he has been he has had elite dominate DT's . Even in Detroit he had Suh in his prime and still drafted Nick Fairly. Titans he had Albert Haynesworth and actually the only time he played well. He was only in buffalo a year but, he had Kyle Williams and Marcel Darius. Then you have the Eagles and you see them always looking to beef up the DT depth and starters.

O-lineman are never really that high except LT.  Zack Martin and maybe 1 or 2 other guards will be higher than Brooks.

Idk kelce was 72 in 2018. Frankly i thought he played as well to be that high if not better.
