I miss Cronkite, Brinkley, etc.....when there was only one set of facts.

My dad and I would watch the news and we would argue about the war in Vietnam Nam.  When my dad was in his eighties, he and I were sitting together eating and he leans in and says "you were right”.  I asked about what and he said that the war in Vietnam was wrong.  Now my dad always played a bit Devil’s advocate with us to make sure we had put the effort into deciding our positions.   I thought this might be one of those times because he was a prolific reader of histories in his retirement and I thought he might be preparing to challenge some of my forty year old reasons so I clarified that I heard what I had.  He just leaned back and smiled and said, "I was wrong and you were right.”  Whenever we would visit, we would watch the nightly news together and discuss it

Disagree. He was not very good last year. His name was bigger than his play. It isn’t just his PFF grade being a 64 last year. Titans reporters on the athletic discussed his play. It wasn’t that good. I much rather have prince Amukamara then him. He wasn’t much better but at least I’m getting an outside corner

On a case-by-case basis, it is an unanswerable question.  I've evaluated about 1,000 neurological-related deaths in COVID+ patients.

I've seen obvious deaths due to neurological reasons recorded as COVID deaths.  I've seen neurological deaths in COVID+ patients that very well may have been precipitated/accelerated by the COVID infection.

At the population level, it would take some major AI-driven computing and statistical horsepower to dissect through the incidence of various deaths (MI's, pneumonia, cancer, even trauma) in a normal year compared to what we have seen in COVID+ patients with these same comorbidities to actually get a handle on it.  No one is doing this, despite a few weak papers that make a passing attempt to tie it all together.  There are true COVID only deaths, COVID accelerated/contributed deaths, and COVID coincident deaths.  It's very, very hard to get the numbers on each category.

And there are deaths not attributed to Covid due to a lack of a diagnosis and autopsy that were caused by the disease.

Follow the $$$$$. Hospitals are reimbursed my Medicare/Medicaid at 3 times the rate for treating COVID as they are for other diseases.

fact- Hospitals struggled financially though the height of the pandemic.

Like many other businesses hospital employees were not safe from furlough or layoff.

Many in my hospital have dealt with that. Those of us who had work are also not getting a raise this year. We also have a hiring freeze so will be short staffed for quite a while. And are already working extended hours to try to catch up on patient load since there is such a huge backlog of patients who we werent able to see for months.

The system lost a TON of money. Hospitals throughout the country did.

COVID has not been a moneymaker for hospitals. The exact opposite is true.

Great. So companies who are losing money are faced with death from something else vs death from Covid which brings in more money. Exactly the point...

If hospitals "admitted" (though not correct) that COVID was a hoax, itd be much more lucrative. You have no idea the kind of money health systems hemorraged.

Had we been able to operate business as usual, and get ALL of our normal business while also getting a few COVID reimbursements, itd be better. Much, much better.

And thats the thing people dont like to mention. Hospitals didnt make extra money for COVID diagnoses. They were re-imbursed what it costed to treat a covid patient. It comes out even. Not a money maker.

I don’t see Maddox being all that successful as the number two this year. Certainly hope i’m wrong with that assumption.

Oh i agree with you about maddox. Had an entire discussion about it a couple days ago. Frankly i think you are hoping maddox can play the outside competently and consistently cause if he doesn’t jones and Douglas haven’t shown much and can’t stay healthy.

Elvis died of Covid in a FL nursing home earlier this year.  Official cause of death was old age.

I am not mad at all.  I just do not understand why you are doing it or the need for it.

Why don't you speak the language the way it was taught to you in school, I know you can do it, I have seen posts in the hockey thread.

The only real interaction you have on this message board is people getting on you for it.

Why not just be normal and discuss football like the rest of us.

He talks normal in the Phillies thread too lol

Absolutely right. It's almost as if millions of idiots holding close-quarters protests in the middle of a global pandemic just as the curve is flattening was a bad idea!

But Trump, amirite?

You probably believe the BS from the oil companies that did not want PA to tax fracking production that 600k jobs would be lost to a fracking ban in PA that I get in the mail every other day. Reality is there are around 27k jobs in oil exploration and production in PA.  There are a little over 6 million jobs in PA.  We aren’t losing 600k jobs from fracking. Math doesn’t add up.   Bottom line is no real new well production is happening in shale at this time.   Plus offshore drilling rig counts are way down too. Has nothing to do with fracking bans and everything to do with the sustainability of domestic drilling at $40 a barrel. Fracking is break even at $60. Fracking isn’t new.  Shale fracking is but because there are no geologically natural reservoirs, what made shale fracking work was horizontal drilling but that is expensive, just like offshore deep water drilling.  Russia glutted the market and drove crude costs way down. Saudis wouldn’t lower their output either until we saw negative cost future contracts for May WTI.  Think our friends in Russia and Saudi Arabia were doing this out of friendship to the US?   They were doing this to drive the US domestic market to unsustainable levels.   What happened?  In March the biggest player in the Balkan reserve (North Dakota) had to declare bankruptcy.  ExxonMobil is trading at 50% of its stock price from two years ago and just got delisted from the Dow Jones Industrials.

You are just so die hard sold on the propaganda.   I think I will believe HE, pretty conservative himself, when he points to the nonsense of inflated Covid numbers driven by hospital profits.  It’s BS propaganda.  Then why didn’t they fake JR’s results to a positive when he clearly seemed to have Covid and at 73 is a Medicare recipient?
