ESP said he thinks the top candidates to come back are Killins, Holyfield, and either Opeta or Ostman...

So none of them. Got it. Lol

That guys sounds like Atlanta's version of Reuben Frank.

Texans released C Greg Mancz.

One of the Texans' top reserve interior lineman for the past half decade, Mancz heads to the open market with 28 career starts to his name. He does have a bit of an injury history. 2020 is Mancz's age-26 campaign.

Just heard about Jones. What a waste. I bet he goes somewhere else and look like a star

That's on Howie

I know folks are going to slam the 2017 draft over the next few days. Two mediocre starters and nothing else four years later is not a good look. I always thought the Douglas and Pumphrey picks were egregiously bad; Douglas couldn't run and Pumphrey didn't have the elite athleticism to compensate for his lack of size. On the other hand, Barnett and Clement (UDFA, I know) came up huge in the playoffs, and you could argue the Eagles don't win the Super Bowl without them. Hollins started off looking good, but hasn't been the same since the injuries. Jones was a worthwhile gamble, in my opinion. The only way I can definitively call Jones a bad pick from a process perspective is if the Eagles overlooked red flags about his mental toughness.

It's gonna sound like a cop out, but I can't muster a definitive stance on that draft.

People get fired for a draft like that.

It’s on Howie if he goes somewhere else and looks like a star? Not the coaching?

Actually if he goes somewhere else and is a star then its not on Howie. Its on the coaching staff.

Idk how the Bucs don't win the SB this year.

I’ll gladly take that bet. He’ll fizzle out of the league in two years

Im still a believer that no CB will look good in Jim's scheme. One more year to go till his contract is done, lol.

Howie picked the coaches...

Patrick Robinson looked really good in 2017. Cortland Finnegan was a Pro Bowler under his scheme. Stephon Gilmore was good in his scheme.

Jones just needed a change of scenery. He lost the faith of the coaching staff and knew it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to have a decent career if he can stay healthy.

I'll give you that one. I wanted Jim gone last year. rumor was they were really hoping he would get a HC job and not have to pay out the rest of his contract. Good thing is Jim is on his last year of his deal and if they wanted him back, he would have had an extension by now. Sadly couldnt see Jones under a different scheme/DC

It’s really not even all about the 40 mil per year. It’s about the guaranteed money he could accumulate if he plays it out like cousins. Supposedly Dallas was offering around 100 mil in guaranteed money. This year alone under the franchise tag he’s gonna earn around 31 mil guaranteed. If he’s franchised again next year (very likely if Dallas doesn’t give him the contract he wants) It jumps to around 37 mil with it being the second time and top 5 average QB numbers jumping up. So in two years he’d earn roughly around 68 mil guaranteed. So in two years he nearly getting that complete guarantee. After the next two years if he just plays well he hits free agency and could get a deal similar to cousins. So let’s say he gets a cousins type deal at 84 mil guaranteed For 3 years (my guess it’s likely way more. Closer to 3 years 110 on the open market). He’d have Roughly 150 mil in guaranteed money for 5 years which is around 50 mil more than Dallas is offering him in a 5 year deal. He and his agent are betting on him and his health. But if he does what he has he’s going to make Much more than what Dallas is Offering him in terms of guaranteed money.

Makes sense to me. The worst part is that if they had given him the large contract last year, like a sane FO would have, they would have been able to spread some of those guarantees into last year and this year, making it more palatable for the Cap. Especially since they’ve actually had good cap room these last few years.

Super Bowl > everything else. That's why you play the game. It's a trash draft by traditional draft eval metrics, I agree.

Eagles doing what they do best and waiving 2nd and 3rd round picks from 2 drafts ago smh

Howie should stick to what he does relatively well and poach young players with nfl tape albeit preseason games from practice squads. That can make up for the god awful drafting we see year in and year out. Also continue to bring in under the radar free agents, he’s decent at that too. Guys like Legarrette Blount, Torrey Smith, Ajayi etc

You need to understand your strengths and utilize them and Howie has been abysmal on draft day

3 drafts ago*

A lot of players in Rasul Douglas' draft range were already on different teams. Sidney Jones though is a bad miss; could never regain his pre-injury form.

Curious as to what makes you believe this in re: to Jim's scheme?

I'm not sure why people can't see it but it's as clear as day that most of the past few years' drafts were "Joe Douglas" drafts.  Howie is cutting Joe Douglas' picks.  This year is the first true "Howie draft".  We'll see how this draft compares with the past few years' drafts in about a year or two.

I’m surprised by the lack of trades across the league this TC. COVID really screwed that pooch

It feels like he never got his head right, like he always felt sorry for himself. Then when there was adversity he’d go into a shell. It’s hard to be an NFL quarterback without incredible mental toughness.

Howie ultimately made the picks. Don’t let him off the hook.
