I look at Jason Avant as an ideal fourth round pick.  Third WR and consistent contributor on STs.  Hollins was going to be the same player.

He wasn't chosen to be a special teamer.  He was chosen to be a WR.  But the ST contribution would be a plus as he played his way into the offense.

To suggest that any GM would use a fourth round pick on someone just for special teams is just silly.

So just to go back to Alshon, if we will not be putting him on IR, then does that mean both he and Reagor will just be inactive on gamedays until healthy?

Yes

It was always amusing to me how many posters on here liked Pumphrey because they thought he was the next Darren Sproles — even though he had never returned a punt or kickoff in college.

Anyone under 5’8” from here on out is the next Darren Sproles,  no matter what. The title is currently occupied by Adrian Killins

I think the "next Sproles” has always been taken out of context. I think people are talking about the role and not the quality of play.

I think the Eagles wanted Pump to be that kind of guy.

I’m confused by this rule. What purpose does this serve?

Is there anyone with a worse Contribution:Discussion ratio than Pumphrey?

The Fireman?  Marcus Smith?

I don't think so being that Pump contributed absolutely nothing.

Joe Douglas was always the one who pushed for college production and wanting to hit doubles instead of home runs. His boards were set that way. We are really going to see Howie’s drafting style from the 2020 draft and beyond.

With no college football this year, I expect Howie will continue drafting athletes > production.

Antonio Gibson, Terry McLaurin and Reagor are all going to be recent perfect examples of traits > college production

My guess...since IR is not that onerous this year, the league didn't want teams to use IR as an extension of their 53 inclusive of waivers.

It just seems to me they’re penalizing teams with injured players.

HE would say Barnett...

Almost claiming time...

None.

If I had to guess they want the waiver claims to be actual claims. Not just "let me put in a claim and if we are lucky enough to be awarded we’ll just throw this guy on IR”

I’m curious if they’ll let Hightower have Burnett’s No. 16, even if they re-sign him to the PS.

Seemed like a prime candidate to come back to our PS.  I am really curious on how the insulate/secure the QB position this season.  Quarantine the QBs?

Weidl may have been here for the past five years, but he cut his teeth under Newsome and with Douglas scouting college players for  Baltimore. He will have considerable say and set the board.

I know he will. But its not nearly the same situation as Joe Doulas being brought in as a big name football guy from the outside to run the draft. Its completely different. Starting this year, this is the stuff we can grade Howie on.

Probably not.  But the finger lickers like Drew Brees might have to wear surgical gloves.

Interesting that Joe arrived after the 2016 draft, which was really good given the limited early picks.

2016 Philadelphia Eagles Draft
Round Selection Player Position College
1 2 Carson Wentz QB North Dakota State
3 79 Isaac Seumalo OG Oregon State
5 153 Wendell Smallwood RB West Virginia
164 Halapoulivaati Vaitai OT TCU
6 196 Blake Countess CB Auburn
7 233 Jalen Mills S LSU
240 Alex McCalister DE Florida
251 Joe Walker LB Oregon

The 2016 draft was very good. Pro Bowl QB, above-average starter at G, a 10M OT (LOL Detroit) and a functional DB. That's a win every time.

How many eagle draft picks from last 5 years are still on team ?

And how many draft picks over those 5 years ?
