So a helmet, which is going to get tossed around, pushed onto the dirt, sat on, etc. is an appropriate display of the American flag? The flag code states:

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

The main story is going to be Covid so let’s not get worked up over names on helmets or who plays with their nuts during the anthem

This is from uniwatch.com which reports on all things uniform related.  The message is now numb to me.

NFL update: It had previously been reported that the NFL would likely allow players to wear helmet decals honoring victims of police brutality or systemic racism. Yesterday we got our first peek at how that will look, and it turns out that they’re actually going with messaging on the neck bumpers, not on the helmet shells. Pretty sure that’s the first time we’ve seen the neck bumper used for any kind of commemorative messaging in the NFL. (Also, according to an analysis by Uni Watch reader Omar Jalife that I published last year, six NFL teams — the Browns, Chiefs, Giants, Saints, Steelers, and Washington — go with blank neck bumpers, so it will be new for them to have any sort of graphics or messaging in that spot.)

According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “[T]he helmet decals are optional. Players will be offered a list of names, but ‘they can also select a victim of systemic racism who is not represented on this list.’ Can wear Week 1 or all season. Coaches have option to wear hat patch.”

In addition, two new messages — "It Takes All of Us” and "End Racism” — will be added to the end lines of the end zones for home openers:

Cannon is good.

So starting RT, backup RG and FB have opted out for them. Cam is going to get smacked around.

No way man, 2 inch helmet decals you don't even see when the game is being played is too much

He should be used to that by now.

Part of me wants to say some of them have opted out for covid reasons and a small part of their decision to opt out is getting away from belichick for a year lol.

COVID-19 has the potential to destroy an NFL players career. Seems moronic for people to gather in groups during a freaking pandemic.

But I'm not a doctor. Just a dude reading what doctors say. And things like gatherings smaller then an offensive line shouldn't gather in groups.

Ok a solid second on the Tape, I really gotta rush this process. Heck the Phils are playing the Yanks.

Oh No, THE MARLINS may infect us all !! Lol Figures.

If I am a player opting out that’s not of the ilk of Hightower or guys like cannon who was a cancer survivor/good player I’m Thinking long and hard about my decision. My concerned would be about whether in a year from now i ever get my job back. I do think there’s front office people that will hold it against them. Like bolden the running back is a 3/4th rb. Would not be surprised if he never plays another down again in the nfl as he’s more easily replaceable and some front office executives might use his decision against him Going forward as well. Not saying it’s right just i have a feeling even if it is a small percentage that some will hold it against those type of backup fringe players.

A cardiologist sets a warning for athletes that have tested positive for the novel coronavirus

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/sports-cardiologist-explains-why-athletes-with-covid-19-symptoms-need-cardiac-testing-before-playing/

"For those individuals who have had COVID-19 and had symptoms, because of our concern about the potential for cardiac injury, we recommend that they undergo some additional testing after a period of rest. That testing would include some blood work to look at evidence of damage to the heart muscle, an electrocardiogram and an echocardiogram, which is an ultrasound scan of the heart."

What’s the total number at right now, 12 players? Nearly half the team.

I understand what you're saying completely and agree.  An NFL career can be gone just like that.  In Boldens case, he has a career earnings of $7.5 million over 7 years.  If he never plays a down again I think he would be OK with the move.  He's never going to be more than what he is.  The grind might not be worth it.

None of us "Regular guys" will never know what it's like to face that decision.  If I was 30 years old, played the game I love for 15 years plus that earned me a free education plus all the perks of being an NCAA athlete then earned over $7 million, I would have no problem walking away.

With that being said, who is going to be the first Eagles player to opt out?  I can see BG based on what we know about how close he is with his family.

I was just about to say something like this. It really depends on age. For me it is a much easier decision as a 30 year old back up to opt out than a 23 year old.

I don’t know if it is even going to be walking away as much as i do believe there’s some front office guys who’ll say we don’t want guys who opted out especially ones who aren’t big impact players. It’s sad but i can totally see that type of rationale thinking by some in the league.
