Random cap point...lots of consternation about our 2021 cap situation.

Howie usually signs ~1-2 starters and adds one trade & sign per offseason.  On this list, we've got Brooks, Darby, Alshon, Hargrave, Slay, Malik Jackson, Desean Jackson.  Yes, that creativity has been a crutch for his inability to draft.

What does all this cap panic for 2021 really mean?  Well, we are about to reap the benefits of not drafting any good players for a few years.  We aren't going to lose anyone...no young player is going to walk for big money elsewhere.  They aren't going to have to cut/trade any important players.  This will just have to be an offseason where they don't land that one impact starter in FA...or trade for a player on another team that wants more money.  So they won't be able to make additions.  They'll have to rely on the drafts.  I don't think that is really huge cap pain.

I don't know how many 1 year deals they signed this offseason, but I'm wondering if they cut them now before the season get cancelled if they can save that money for next year?

That's why I'm implying trading.  He has a knack for some decent trades.  I agree, and have been very vocal about his lack of success drafting.

I don't think this is a good year for starter-level trades.  Winning the SB this year will be a crap-shoot.  Any last minute additions will be a crap-shoot for success or failure.  Between the opt-outs and the possibility that the season shuts down, I would not be interested in trading too much for any vets who may not player for the Eagles until they are a year older in 2021.

It's just not the year maximize investment or go all-in on.

I think that's almost inevitable isn't it? They have to go with 6 WRs so that's Desean, Alshon, JJAW, Ward and then Hightower and Watkins.

It's asking a lot, but it is what it is.  We've seen a Desean/JJAW/Ward WR corps and it was the worst in the NFL.  That's why I said we have a problem if the 3 rookies are behind those guys.

I don't care if they don't even know where to line up.  This is a throw-away year for the whole league.  I'd like the group to be Reagor/Hightower/Watkins up front.  Screw the other guys.

Just checking, you guys alright with them getting on the bus?

Or should we have waited for the "Go Ahead" from Bill Burr?

Surprised they had the pulmonary capacity to keep circling the bases against Phillies pitching.

At this point, to whatever extent a GM/coach can cash out on 2020 (cap/picks) to maximize resources for 2021, it's time to do it.

Im fine putting the rookies out there at wr

let them learn and show what they can do

Surprised you haven't erected a statue of Burr. You should be thanking him for saying what needed to be said.  Always the negative . Right now there's millions of you who think the Eagles "can't beat the Seahawks".

Like when you wake up like that every day, why even bother?

Unfortunately the overwhelming amount of evidence simply does not back that up. I won't bog down the blog with too much back and forth on this but here's a thread from a prominent epidemiologist out of Harvard with links to a number of studies.

A scientist at Harvard published a bunch of bad studies on it, and didn't even tell his co-authors where he got his data from. Not sure if you're linking to the same guy.

What about unloading contract trades?  IF trades can be done,?  Look, I think we all know this season is going to be a wash.  If for instance some team thinks an unorthodox season helps their chances of changing their winning ways and the Eagles can take advantage....I think you have to.  Maybe Miami or NYJ (With extra draft capital) are licking their chops saying the AFC East is ripe for the taking...same with the Bills, maybe they want to load up around Mr. Top 100 Josh Allen.  I'm more than happy to trade away an aging, expensive veteran for some daft capital.

Alshon plus a 5th to the Bills for  4th...something alone those lines.  I know it might not save any this year but if you can unload Rodney and get out of his contract I would in a heartbeat.  Ride with Mills, Wallace, Parks and see what they can do.

I'm not expecting any play for player trades.  I don't want to see any new contracts come in until we figure out this cap mess.  What's needed is more draft capital to help the chances of landing a player or 2 to build around.

Lets go

They aren’t going to do it and give up on the season. Kelce, Johnson, Cox aren’t exactly young anymore. I can’t see them wasting a year in their primes

Definitely not suggesting giving up on the season but I think there might be opportunities to shed salary while letting a young guy perform.  I'm focused on Rodney because he fits the bill of aging, expensive, injury history, with a young guy in his wings.  I don't think they thought a guy like K'Von Wallace would fall to them where he did.  We know what Rodney is.  He most likely isn't going to become some next level safety, in fact I see him falling off now that Malcolm Jenkins is gone.  This isn't saying that Wallace is a savior at safety but he has enough potential that I would rather see him improve with growing pains instead of watching a guy like Rodney decline and hold others back.

I compare him to Quinten Mikel.  When Dawk left, Q was left to lead the secondary.  He didn't do bad but he didn't have that next level in him.  He was solid.  Same goes for Rodney and he has injuries now that have mounted up.

Just saying the raiders could eventually release Nelson agholor.... and bam

Oh yeah! Whoops. Though to be fair Alshon likely starts on PUP so Reagor would make it 6.

The ones he references aren't his studies, so I would assume it's a different guy.

There’s no way they are dealing mcleod after just signing him. Additionally i think it actually creates more dead money in 2020 and only really saves you 4 in 2021 as you lose some roll over from 2020.

There's a good chance Alshon and/or Desean wont play much this year due to injury.

Like everything else going on during this pandemic there are contradicting reports on this subject.  I could link plenty of reports stating the positive stats.  Who do we believe anymore is the question.

Early observational and case studies showed very mild promise, but pretty much every even moderately powered controlled follow up study since then aimed at identifying a true difference has yet to show the difference.  Not all studies are made equal, nor are all experts.  For example, the video circulating around the internet now that prompted this guy to post all those studies in a fit of nerd-rage, features a "Dr" who also happens to believe that demon sperm is the cause of fibroids and vaccines contain alien DNA.

Meh...
