I want my son to be in school.

I dont want to waste time with fall sports.

PIAA finally just released a 26 page guideline tonight. Weeks after they made every school make their own.  Fing ridiculous.

Also, they announced today an alternative date to start fall sports. And apparently individual schools can choose which date to begin. How the hell can you play a season when some schools begin on time and others decide not to start yet?

Its so hard to keep up with all of this, and this right here I cant even wrap my head around how its supposed to work.

I’m not talking about the working parents.  I’m talking about the school employees that will be out of work, the companies that supply schools and the kids who need schools as an escape from unhappy homes.  Unfortunately a large portion of kids get their best or only meals from school.  Some of them get their best and only guidance from teachers or administrators.  Some companies rely solely on supplying school districts but now start laying people off.   So, no.  It’s not just about working parents.  Pretty odd to be celebrating a difficult situation whichever decision is made.

Well if you took my endorsement of a smart decision to be "celebrating " you are wrong.  I don’t disagree with the impacts you mention but you also have to consider that there are a lot of people that could face risk of serious illness or death if congregating a bunch of young people could result in an outbreak and from what we have seen from parties and bars, that is a very real possibility.  The polls of teachers that feel it is unsafe, 1/5th supposedly considering not returning to the classroom, all suggest we need a better approach. The HEROES Act accounted for money to help schools prepare.  Mitch finally got his version out.  Until there is that funding in place and being used, I don’t see schools opening successfully.

It shouldn’t work. We can barely keep professional athletes from getting sick, no chance it’ll go well with kids.

Courtside Kids reaction to a ben simmons dunk. The gif is pretty funny.

A school near me already suspended football activity indefinitely because of close exposures to COVID. This is Pittston Area which plays in our Wyoming Valley Conference.

Now when this happens with school in session you telling me those football players won't have been in close contact with any soccer players,  volleyball players,  cheerleaders,  tennis players,  cross country runners,  lacrosse players? Pretend in a perfect world the schools rules for social distancing in school work perfectly.

STILL At least one of those football players is going to have a sibling on another one of those teams. That's very likely.

I’m exposed and involved with that industry indirectly.  I’m fully aware of the risks and risk factors.   I don’t know who this Mitch guy is.

McConnell.

He's the guy that dragged his feet so people can't pay their bills while he's taking vacations spending his millions.

I agree but if a parent can't be bothered to fix a meal at home or get involved in their kids lives what makes anyone think they're gonna see that their kids do on line learning.

Going to 100% on line just ensures these kids lose a year of learning.

Here in Canada schools are re-opening. Some provinces are contemplating doing a hybrid method initially for High School students, but mostly we're good to go. It sucks for US kids, parents, and everyone else involved, but considering your COVID response or lack thereof, it's necessary.

What happened to accountability? We’re putting millions of lives on the line because a parent can’t step up to the plate? The parents are responsible for their children attending classes, there are already rules in place for this. However, we need to provide them the materials necessary for online learning. Its terrible that we have students without internet access at home.

Aren’t schools offering school lunch pickup even during remote learning? My district has offered free lunch from the initial shutdown all the way through the summer.

Our school did that. Since they had already contracted for the food they figured it was better than having it wasted.

Won’t a lot have been in close contact with trainers or coaches that handle more than one sport too.

Food banks as alternative customers?  They are buying food now as opposed to taking food donations.

Guess what.  Some of it was still getting wasted.   I have bid contracts not being fulfilled.  I’m supposed to ship 13 truckloads of product to West VA Dept of Agriculture for school lunches this year.  We have shipped 2 so far and then they told us to stop because they don’t know what is going to happen.  I’m supposed to have another 2 truckloads go there next month.  Ain’t happening now.  So yes.  We won the bid.  They had a contract but they have an out.  And we’re just one manufacturer and that’s just one state.  So Food is getting wasted.  Big time.

People are underestimating both the short and long term impact of erasing a year of development outside the home for all kids in the country aged 3-18.  Social, intellectual, physical, everything.

Sounds harsh, but it may turn out to be a heck of a lot more damaging than the deaths of 150k people who were already in the last 5 years of their life.

If only you knew how negatively this effects some people.....   I know it’s necessary.  But not something to be celebrated.

You're right, this isn't some great thing.  What do parents who both still work essential jobs can't be home for the child?  What about parents who work high stress jobs remote but have to help the kids now?  Just shooting off some concerns that a lot of people probably have.

It’s not just old people. 1 out of every 5 reported deaths is younger than 65. I also fail to see what’s so damaging about a few months to one year of distance learning to justify any death. But I’ll take it to CVON

About 95% over 55 and it will be shown that a percentage even higher than that of the confirmed deaths had less than 5 years of age and co-morbidity adjusted life expectancy.  That doesn't mean their deaths don't matter of course; it's just a necessary perspective.

It’s already been posted in Common Sense, but not nearly enough people subscribe to it

In other words, you have no proof? Ah.

Even trying to google your claim this is the first thing that pops up: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/study-finds-that-people-who-have-coronavirus-could-die-10-years-early-2020-5%3famp

We still don’t know the long term damage surviving this virus can cause for people.

The evidence is accumulating, but there isn't a whole lot of proof out there for any COVID claims.

Step up your game beyond google if you want to educate yourself on it.

We don't know the long-term consequences of cell phones, certain cosmetic procedures, or surviving novel strains of the seasonal flu either.  But no one is shutting anything down on that account.
