Can someone answer why players on the fringe wouldn't opt out of their contract?  For instance, if Shelton Gibson or Marcus Green decided last week before they were cut to "opt out," wouldn't they still collect a 150 or 350K salary?  I completely understand that if they don't make a roster next year, then they apparently have to pay that money back.  Do you really think teams will hold players accountable to that?  That seems like a really bad look, and the NFL already has enough of those.

Not sure if I can answer that fully but I will throw in that even full practice squad players make close to 150k over the course of a season at baseline.

It’s amazing that in 2020, with Coronaviruses being around for a very long while, how seemingly little we know about this strain.

Every day I see even more ridiculous theories or "studies”

theyre going to just beat everyone over the head with it until people tune it out. Not an effective strategy to create change. But... there havent been many well thought out plans for the movement.

It's important to remember that this is early on in US sports getting back to normal, so people will catch COVID until they get into the groove, and their friends and family too.  The protests over there are really not helping either - as a way of stopping the spread of the disease. they suck.

But players have largely trained in small groups and been ok, but this is the first big step.  It's a large mental concept to get over - my Mum took a few weeks to get the confidence to go to the Supermarket again and it was a big step when she did the first trip. Now she is cautious but over the anxiety.

We can't live in fear 24/7 over a disease with a very low death rate. Be careful, be vigilant and crack on with life.

It doesn’t appear that the protests led to a spike in Covid, although it’s hard to say definitively. Thankfully a large number of protestors smartly wore masks.

It's more the mindset change of people - if they can do that, then so can I - and the movement of people around.  For those who are young, they may not show symptoms but be a spreader. Plenty of people over here thought that we'd have no sport in 2020 and we have.  As time goes on, it's opening up more and more.

The first step was mega painful though

I wonder if ~2,500 players plus coaches and staff will realize that they all have to act responsibly for this billion dollar exercise to work.

Nah, there will be a lot assuming it won't be them, it won't matter, etc

Makes signing guys with a history of poor decision making and impulse control like Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon even more of a bad idea.

I’m sure the pandemic was handled better there. We probably have anywhere from 35-50 percent of the population who don’t wear masks and likely aren’t social distancing or limiting their contact with others.

In all honesty, yes and no.  We've only starting wearing masks in certain circumstances in the last week and there are some that have lived life as normal since March.  The one big difference (outside of protests) is the conditions travelling between country to country - state to state for you lot - where things have been very tight and it's come with conditions if you do it.  Our Govt has made people quarantine for 10 days if they have been to Spain recently.

Which a lot of people are unhappy about, but they chose to go on holiday...  But, it's helping to keep a lid on it.  We even have a scheme where the Govt are funding restaurant meals on Monday to Wednesday to help keep people in jobs.

I just googled UK mask wearing and see you guys are among the worst hit countries in the world, right there with the US and Brazil So never mind, your leadership failed you too.

The Govt went missing for a month when most ministers and hangers on caught it and it went a bit rudderless.  We've also Brexit going at the same time too.

One note, our figures are being reviewed as as some of us realised in April, the Public Health quango were reporting COVID deaths when someone died in a car accident if they had COVID or died in a care home from natural causes. I expect our figures to come waaaay down once the review has been done.

So yeah, if we can do it, you lot definitely can too!

And for those countries who locked down early - South Africa, Israel and Australia, things are getting to where the UK was in April as they have reopened.

People admiring Joe Kelly for throwing at the Astros players is pathetic. Yeah the Astros cheated but throwing at guys doesn’t make you tough, let alone a "hero” like so many moral high ground keyboard warriors are calling him. He’s just a clown.
