This happened on the opening kickoff

Much safer than the traditional kickoff.  So glad they screwed with the rules to fundamentally change the game.

Yes. AFC North plays the NFC East this year.

They can plan on that all they want. Unfortunately, I think he gets claimed.

The one that killed me was losing Christian Ellis to the Pats later in the year instead of just cutting Albert O.

That was idiotic

This is @ManuManu's fault

Fangio knows ball. Gotta keep our fourth best pass rushing edge behind Huff, Sweat and Graham. Maybe Nolan Smith can stick around after practice time pick his brain.

On the final day of training camp last week, the Eagles’ coaches had some players square off in 1-on-1’s against each other in front of the whole team to close practice. LB Ben VanSumeren lined up at receiver against rookie UDFA S Andre Sam. VanSumeren ran an absolutely filthy corner route, complete with head fakes at the route stem, and absolutely dusted Sam, causing both offensive and defensive players to go nuts. But... Kenny Pickett overthrew him. "I played receiver growing up,” VanSumeren said after the Eagles-Vikings preseason game. "They wanted to give me a look at running some routes. So I ran one. I had a nice little swim off the release, gave him a little head move from the outside, little push off, and then back out to the corner. So, you know, it just felt like it did in high school, I guess.” Asked if more opportunities to play on offense were on the horizon, VanSumeren said, "We’re gonna, see, we’re gonna see real soon. That’s all I can really say on that.”

6'2 231m 4,45 speed, explosive athlete. Too small for TE, but perfect for H-back (played FB in college as well as LB).

Nice way to build depth on the bench. 😎

OK.  did you make that up?

Because I've been saying that - annoyingly (to many here) often.

And I would say that if there is a "too small for TE" player who is actually big enough to block as an inline TE, it's BVS.  29 bench,  42.5 vert, 1011 broad is really really strong.  the strength makes up for the 10-20 pounds light.

Looking at the PFFs this preseason,  BVS led the Eagles with a 91.  But the Eagles did bring in a lot of good, experienced ILBs,  and the Eagles might want to go in the direction of experience.  And they might not want to platoon.   And BVS might be left with special teams snaps only.   Instead of special teams snaps only,  they could add "can also block on offense, and be good at that,  at WR, RB, FB, HB, TE"  I'd question TE pass blocking, but that's about it.

Vansumeren bio on offense.

WR - Hauled in 85 receptions – a regular season state record – for 1,259 yards and 13 touchdowns during his senior season

QB - Also went 11-of-25 passing for 249 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions as a senior, adding 54 carries for 387 yards (7.2 per carry) and six touchdowns

FB - Freshman with Michigan Wolverines - Made his U-M debut at fullback against Western Michigan (Sept. 8) and also saw snaps there against SMU (Sept. 15)

RB - Sophomore with Michigan Wolverines -  • Carried the ball four times for seven yards and his first career touchdown against Middle Tennessee State (Aug. 31) and also played special teams

I'm very much in favor of VanSumeren playing as the starting LB.  91 PFF is great.  But the Eagles do have a lot of good ILBs.   The Eagles do lack depth at a lot of places on offense. Especially run blocking, which showed up in the last preseason game.  He can do many of those things on offense.  Michigan RB and FB,  can pass protect,  allowing Saquon to run a route.  Not clear who else can do what Barkley can do in pass protection.  Don't think Gainwell provides the pass protection, not clear that Shipley is up to Barkley's level at this point.

Maybe, but he was a 6th round pick.  Teams had plenty of chances to pick him up in the draft.  He looked OK in the pre-season but it's not like he did anything extraordinary.  The offense looked pretty pedestrian. He wasn't some stand out.

Not sure some other team doesn't add him to their 53. Good ST'er and a decent backup.

Only four spots didn't match mine.

 - They didn't IR Steen after all.  Waived Toth.
 - Ricks for Jobe.
 - Kinnard for McMahon.
 - IRed Smith, kept Bradbury.

It will be interesting to see how many of our cuts go elsewhere.  A good measure of the quality of who was kept.

McMahon was maybe my only small surprise. I won’t lose sleep if someone claims him, but I think it’s a long shot someone would anyway.

So Toth to PS and he’s called up to be the backup center? I can’t imagine they want Dickerson to be the backup.

Draft status doesn't matter at this point. The offense did look pedestrian, but from my eyes McMahon was one of the standouts. He wasn't on the level of Cam Jurgens his rookie year when he looked like Kelce 2.0, but he showed that he can move in space and be effective.

I don't follow the rest of the NFL Centers so I'm not sure how many other teams prefer smaller, nimble Centers like the Eagles do. Maybe they are one of the few teams that prefer his body type and skillset and know that no one does?

He’s significantly undersized and can only play one position. That eliminates him from most teams’ 53.

We’ll see what eventually happens with Bradberry, but from afar it’s hard to see how he actually earned this spot. Maybe there is a trade brewing and a team called Howie’s bluff.

It's possible and it's happened before but at this time of year a bunch of teams have just made tough cuts. I think it's when it's least likely to happen.

One thing I keep going back to is Bradberry and his agent made it very clear he wanted to be released when Giants were dicking around with him during the summer and it was clear he wasn't going to stay in NY. If it was inevitable he'll be gone from here I think you would hear some type of grumbling.

He probably knows there won’t be much interest at all in him. Back then, he knew he was going going to get some decent money and NY cost him a chance at a little more.

Howie finding a team to take Bradberry and that crap contract would be a bigger swindle than when he moved from 13 to 8 before the 2016 draft and got them to take on the awful Byron Maxwell contract in the process.

I have to admit I thought both Hamler & Isabella would be better than they were once upon a time.

And now he's already getting paid this year either way.  There will be no new money for him regardless. He might even retire if eagles cut him

Lawyers should not boast about being "smart."

Most of my classmates went to law school b/c they can't do math to save their lives.

I can't for the life of me understand why they would keep Bradberry.

Good point. He's still only 31 and could possibly get a contract next year somewhere else although it's not likely. I'd think he still would want some clarity on his situation. I think the FO/Coaches genuinely like him for whatever reason more than people realize.
