Speaking of Ringo, I didn't like trading a future 3rd for a 4th at the time, but I think Ringo was a much better prospect than anyone they could have taken with that 3rd this year. At least as we stand right now. It could prove to be a pretty wise trade. I wonder if Howie factored in the 2024 draft being weak when he made that trade a year ago. If he did, smart on him.

It seemed obvious... but hey, all it took was a complete and total collapse.

No arguing there. He could be, but I think the numbers are against him right now. Also realize I called Quinyon Mitchell the wrong name of Williams by accident.

Here's how I look at the potential 2025 starters.

CB1- Quinyon Mitchell

CB2- Cooper DeJean

S1- CJGJ

S2- Sydney Brown/Reed Blankenship

Slot CB- Winner of Maddox/Hall/McPhearson gets extension.

I loved Ringo at UGA. I think he has a world of talent and hope he can figure out how to tap in to it here. However, drafting two CB 1 and 2 might have derailed his path here.

CD isn't going to be outside. He'll be moving from the slot to safety to anywhere else they can. They will need Ringo. Maddox and McP will both be gone.

CB1- QM

CB2-Ringo

Slot-Rodgers

S CJGJ/CD

Backup S Brown/Blank

Backup CB-Ricks/Jobe

I'm not making some Ras - good,  sparq - bad argument.

It's just faster to type ras.   I'm not going to type "combine and pro day numbers" when I can type "Ras"

Like so many things in the US,  I would prefer if ras was better.  It isn't.  It's pretty clear that taller shouldn't give you a better number, especially at positions like running back.  It's pretty clear that Britain Covey shouldn't be near the top of the Defensive Tackle list with a 9.something.  But that's the way it works today.  Oh well.

It may very well be that what I just typed,  despite being something that I personally think other people should understand,  is one of those things that only supergeniuses can understand.  But that's the way it works today.  Oh well.

"more to do with athletic ability in general."   Yes, that's exactly what it is.  Yet,  there is a combine and there are pro days,  and exactly what they do is measure athletic ability in general.  They've been doing it for years.    If there were 10 more tests of athletic ability in general,  and if there were 2000 players doing 30 different tests and the combine lasted a month,  I'd be in favor.  Others disagree.   They have full confidence in their "eye tests" often with no reason to have that confidence.   Objective data,  which can be looked up,  and presented,  is often angrily dismissed in favor of their eye tests.   I'm not talking about front office and scouts,  I'm talking about people who would just as soon talk about the Phillies, Sixers and Flyers as the Eagles.

Wilson is good as a blocker,  something like top run blocking pff of the top 10 or whatever wrs.  The Eagles were not good at run blocking at the wr position last year,  so adding a good run blocking wr seems like a good move.  Also, those tall wrs are often good red zone threats, and you might as well have another one of those.  If there is some thing that Wilson doesn't do well, coach him up.  If he's great, he plays more, if he's not, he plays less.

Pull your skirt down. Your Dunning Kruger is showing.

I see the very passionate Eagles fans are passionate about downgrading at the punt returner position.

Covey could play more snaps at WR,  or not.  I don't see A Smith getting snaps instead of Covey.   Parris Campbell maybe.

But "take the mystery box" because you could get a boat is stupid when you have and want,  a boat.

Quite a few people here seem to be looking at lists upside down.   Covey had the MOST punt return yards in the NFL,  not the least.  Covey had the MOST punt returns of 20+ yards in the NFL, not the least.  You want that.  You want league leaders in good things like punt return yards and 20+ yard punt returns.  The fact that he could either play more wr or not do that is a great advantage.   Because it's not uncommon for the best punt returner to be someone who is a starter at some position,  playing a lot of snaps at that position, and it can be difficult to do.   The Eagles can dial up the right amount of wr snaps to go with the league leading punt return yardage and the league leading 20+ punt returns.

And yes,  Covey won the state championship 2 years in a row at QB (so did Cooper DeJean).  And when he's in the backfield,  he can be a threat to throw,  he's a versatile player.  In college,  3 attempts, 3 completions,  2 tds, and a passer rating over 500.    Back in the old days halfback option passes were not uncommon.  T formation.  Before that, in the single wing,  it would not be uncommon for all 4 backs to throw a pass in the same game.  So, yeah, I think more than just the QB can throw a pass, and I like players on the team and on the field who can do that well.    I like hiras players with versatility, and QB is the best versatility.  10/10 ras,  defensive all american, high school QB.  I like college QB and something else too.   Those are generally the players I think the Eagles, and any team, really, should get.   And the Eagles often do get them.  The Eagles have a good number of them,  there can always be more.   Covey in the backfield,  DeJean in the backfield,  VanSumeren in the backfield,  Baun in the backfield.  All with QB experience.   There are a lot of LBs with RB/WR experience.  Big and fast.  These are players who can learn a few plays.  These are not players who are expected to become starting NFL running backs or wide receivers,  but there would be things that players on defense would be able to do well.  Those LBs should be able to block well.   Most hudl has highlights, running and catching mostly,  but they're doing their share of blocking too.

I’ve never seen someone get so hung up on people’s positions in HS. I’m sure your most common position in HS was crouched down and crying, stuffed in a locker.

You know youve lost the argument when one resorts to this ^

wrong.

the eagles suffered last year due to subpar run blocking by the wrs and rbs.

what should happen is for players like Smith, especially, and also Brown,  come off the field in overall run situations,  like the 4th Q when the Eagles are planning on running out the clock and handing it to Barkley often, and Wilson could come in.  I would like the star wrs to be fresh and healthy for the playoffs, and taking them off the field in run blocking situations seems like a good way to do that.

ras compare as WR - Johnny Wilson and Albert Ok.   I'd like the Eagles to remember he exists this year.   Albert Ok had a faster 40 at his combine than Johnny Wilson,  and is 27 pounds heavier.

What you are not considering is the difference that the greatly improved quality of today's NFL punters makes.  The kind of "special punt returner" that you remember from years past had much less hang time and much more open space to deal with than today's punt returners have.

Devin Hester did not have significantly less hang time to deal with than modern returners the record hangtime is generally accepted as a 5.71 by Tommy Townsend in 2020, Pat McAfee was hitting 5.6 for the Colts in 2009, the average is still around 5 seconds which is where it's been for a good while.

Besides Devonta Smith, that Eagles Bucs playoff game was one of the biggest "1-2-3, Cancun” performances I’ve ever seen. They absolutely quit.

The front 7 played well in the 1st half, then they saw Bradberry's plays at halftime and said "eff this".

xbkKH4F.png

(Yeah, we got 6 and a trophy too)

They quit long before the playoff game.    They let a Seattle offense led by Drew Lock walk down the field and score a TD to beat them at the end of the game in Seattle, and surrendered 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.

They surrendered 29 points to the Cardinals in the second half of that game.

They literally all came out of the Giants game the last week of the season, because they were scared of injury.   But, they hadn't actually EARNED being rested.  The entire team was in the midst of a massive collapse, and they needed to be WORKED to get it righted before the playoffs.  Instead, they went milquetoast and tucked their tails and walked away.  There, it was the coaching staff, that quit on the team rather than vice versa.

This team had no fight in it after the 49ers pantsed them at home.  They didn't come out angry and take it out on the next opponent, they got embarrassed by the next one too, on National television.   From the 49ers game on... they were an embarrassment to watch.   Fortunately, they got to play a Tommy Devito led Giants team and squeaked out one win, otherwise it would have been a 7 game losing streak, counting the playoffs.  Winning 1 game in 7 tries is Panthers level pathetic.   And that's what this team was down the stretch last season.  And they were far too talented to claim it was all coaching.   That's a cop out to protect the delicate egos of the players.  They quit.   The coaches didn't help things, but the players absolutely quit on themselves, their coaches and the fans.

I still can't believe people buying into the "playing possum" narrative.  Us getting embarrassed by Baker and the F'n Bucs was the only logical outcome.

Exactly. They traded a 3 for him right. Howie said the view was they valued him more than what they think they'd as a 3rd round pick.

They will need to go young - don't think we there is anyway both Bradberry and Maddox are on the 53. Maddox could well be on the PS for most of the year.

Ringo is still only 21. He was always a project. You don’t give up on a talent like him so soon. Besides, with the new KO rules, special teamers are more valuable than ever. That goes for Jobe as well. You need fast guys who can tackle in the open field. Further, with two years of good coaching he should be ready to step in for Slay in 2025.

I defer to @FranklinFldEBUpper on this subject. Hopefully he’ll chime in.

Ringo was selected as a raw prospect, so not retaining him after 1 year is madness. He's the sort of player you keep and try to develop; from a player dev and cap perspective.  Having 2 CBs on a rookie contract is a huge win for any team.  Having a secondary where all but 1 player is on a rookie contract, is an even bigger deal.

We officially picked the wrong corner.

I believe the 'playing possum' narrative was put forth by the great RAS lover of the board.

Nah.   He was just showing the Lions fans how many Championships they have since Eisenhower left office.

Why are we discussing trading Ringo?

Moore sounded well during his PC. Easily see him being HC material at some point.

This is kind of stating the obvious but it's hard to trust on having Moore beyond this season. This feels very Gannon-ish in that he's likely going to be a rental rather than a long term solution. If the offense stinks again, with this personnel, he'll probably be fired along with Sirianni. If it's successful, he'll probably get HC interviews and may be the possible hot name of the cycle. It's hard to imagine a scenario where Moore is here beyond 2024 (unless they fire Sirianni and promote Moore which would be unlikely but maybe understandable).

Nick steps down to go to rehab for his Rock, Paper, Scissors addiction and Moore becomes the head coach.

We have a potential Maxey opportunity with Ringo.

Maxey is still younger than some of this year's draft picks will be.

Ringo is still younger than most of next years picks will be. And the following year, he will still be younger than a lot of prospects.

A player as young as Ringo, you draft with the intentions of letting him develop. Hes not even basically a rookie. Hes basically a college junior.
