I assumed your question was rhetorical, but yes you obviously bump up the shutter speed to compensate for a lower f-stop. If you're shooting into the sun, you might even need to add an ND filter. But he wasn't shooting into the sun, and he was next to the stage shooting at a fairly wide angle. If you honestly don't think 1/8000 is overkill that's fine. On the surface it doesn't make sense to me, but maybe it does come down to how powerful the sensor is.

Of course it's overkill.  It's the video equivalent of shooting a political rally at something like 240fps.  It would be completely unnecessary.

I'm really disturbed that multiple people here wanted to see him get assassinated. It's one thing to hate him, but another entirely to want to see him get shot in the head in front of the entire count

She was born premature and spent a month in the NICU. She was only 4lbs when she was born! She has OT and PT for low tone. She is doing incredibly and I’m truly amazed by her every. single. day. Tiny

I raise you the former president.  He shared a video of someone saying the only good democrat is a dead democrat.  End of story, it's not bothering sides.

"On May 27, 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump retweeted a video posted to Twitter by the group "Cowboys for Trump" in which the group's leader, Cuoy Griffin, a commissioner for Otero County in New Mexico, stated, "I've come to a place where I've come to the conclusion that the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.""

Oh that was a joke, you just didn't get it.  Unite!

If we're doing conspiracy theories at least make em sexy. I was in board with the "shadowy figure by the water tower".

What if one of the cameras with those fancy big lenses was a second gun???? :o

@Toastrel better have a good alibi for where he was on 7/13 around 6 pm.

@Bill To reframe this in another way to better help you understand why you're making the same argument about intent of the photographer that the conspiracy theorists are...

If you know you're shooting an event that has high elements of motion, say for example, an outdoor sporting event, you're gonna set the shutter speed as high as it can go, right? Well then, once you do that per your desired intent, what do you need to do with your aperture setting?

I assumed your question was rhetorical, but yes you obviously bump up the shutter speed to compensate for a lower f-stop. If you're shooting facing the sun, you might even need to add an ND filter. But he wasn't shooting into the sun, and he was next to the stage shooting at a fairly wide angle. If you honestly don't think 1/8000 is overkill that's fine. JFC, you moron, if you’re shooting into the GD sun you actually need to make your exposure brighter and slow the shutter speed because your subject is backlit, otherwise their face is going to be a shadowy mess. FFS man just stfu about it because you’re reading like you’re Uncle Bob with a DSLR

Also, the photographer who took it swapped to Sony awhile back. Known for their very good sensors with low noise at high ISO. I’m assuming he’s using an a7 variant of some kind, which has a max shutter speed of around 1/2000, not Fn 1/8000. If it was 1/8000 it would have practically freeze framed the bullet.

At a high enough shutter speed you actually bend the space time continuum. That's how trump was able to dodge the bullet matrix style. Trust me, and theoretical physicist.

Also we've already established emb's most likely culprit:

I'm not saying it's him. I'm just asking questions.

Is anyone actually reading the photography debate going on right now?

Bill and WGB. That's probably about it.

I see that you completely glossed over the ND filter part of the sentence, but okay.

 I already posted the exif data, you idiot. It was 1/8000 and the camera is an a1.

Sorry, I'll stop now, even though me and Bill are in agreement that conspiracy theory angle doesn't really hold up because of this.

An ND filter is going to lower the exposure. The opposite of what you need when, you need to, you know, raise the exposure level because your subject is backlit.

also, just read back saw your post with the exif data. Look at the f/ stop.

So, he was going for a thin DOF (probably about 2ish feet given the lens, sensor size, and his probable distance), and because the aperture was WIDE OPEN, what needed to happen to the shutter speed to offset a wide open aperture?

Don't F'n get me started.  The FIRST week i've been gone for work during the pandemic we had our first extended power outage.  We paid good money for the iQ8 micro inverters which allow for a local grid (I.E., you can use your panels during an outage during the day).  Problem is.... f'n things didn't kick in.  So by about 5 PM yesterday our battery was completely drained when we SHOULD have been recharging it during the day and blasting the AC.

If I was home I could have worked with the solar company to triage the problem. <_<

You gotta admit that it's pretty hilarious, given your schtick with the whole solar powered thing over the past 2 years, that your house has been without power for 2 days

Now I know I can talk to Bill and WGB about aperture and stop bath.

While I get what you're coming from, I'm pretty pissed.  And I don't know how to triage the issue now that the power is on.  <_<
