Well, to be honest, I haven't looked into Platner very much but it might very well be the case that I won't like him. No matter, we are WAY beyond the point of no return on this thing. I might very well not want to support Platner but I will do so now that he is the Dem candidate as the only thing that matters at this point is that MAGA is removed from power thru the normal election process and Platner is important in making that happen in terms of control of the Senate. So no, you can't be against MAGA/Trump and not want the Dem (any Dem) to win a Senate seat. I can not like Platner and not support him generally but still want him to win AND it has nothing to do with the Dem Party.

Collins has voted for all of Trump's appointees and judges (except Hegseth). She's far from fine. I don't live in Maine so it doesn't matter what I think, but I hope Planter wins.

watching procus go off on this as his daddy covers up his epstein crimes and protects other pedos is the kind of hypocrisy i come here for. 🤣

I am anti-Trump and also don't support Platner. I'm not going to support socialism and disastrous economic policies that would ruin our nation just because Trump is awful. Susan Collins is fine.

Well ok then. I'm much more ready to accept one socialist Senator and get a Dem majority in the Senate than I am having Trump continue with his destructive path with a bunch of weak arse Repubs who won't vote consistently against his sheet.

Planter's biggest sin is that he's a democrat who is probably going to take a republican seat away. They always find something. They rheeeed about Fetterman non stop until he started voting with Trump most of the time. Now they love him. And he's brain damaged. Planter had a scary tattoo once which he's since covered and sent some sexy texts to some ladies a few times. People like procus have never talked to a girl before, so they find the idea of that scary too.

He's also endorsed by some of the dumbest, most economically illiterate morons in DC (Ro Khanna, Bernie Sanders, etc.). This trend towards socialism/communism needs to be halted.

Susan Collins means a Rep Senate, which means no oversight of the administration and more Trump appointed fascist judges. Platner's preferred economic policies have literally no effect on anything. Not that it matters what either one of us support since we don't live in Maine.

I'm thinking more long term - the more Platners, Mamdanis, AOCs, Khannas that get elected, the worse it is for the country overall. Trump will be gone someday, and I haven't seen anyone able to pick up his mantle and lead MAGA going forward. But continuing and accelerating our disastrous slide into economic suicide will have longer term impacts.

Said another way - just nominate normal people Dems.

Sure and I'm right there with you but step #1 is to get MAGA out of power. This was always a situation with problems on both sides but one side is far far worse than the other at this point.

Having a few more of the Mamdanis and AOCs around is the price for allowing Trump to take over the GOP. The old conservatives led by Mitch had their chance in Jan 2021 and they blew it. Recovering from that lack of wisdom will cost a good deal of political capital and take a long time.

It's a little late for that when the sitting president of the united states is having the federal government take over various sectors of private industry. We are going to get more big government no matter what. I prefer Khanna and Sanders's socialism to Trump and the Republican party's straight up naziism and fascism. The democrats are definitely drifting toward European social democracy which is more government than I would want, but its a far cry from what the republicans want which is a straight up NSDAP style dictatorship where no one has any rights at all. Again, this is why Im a registered democrat. When I have a choice I vote for centrists, but I'll never vote republican again.

When there's a huge wealth gap, and everything costs so much it's a natural byproduct.

Yes. I remember arguing with TEW about the wealth gap. When it gets too small or too large it creates chaos in society. People will end up coming after the Oligarchs if the government doesn’t step in early enough.

I'd wager that the "more normal Dems" have a much more difficult path than the less normal ones. Talarico's going up against a complete sheet show and I'd put money on Platner over Collins all day over him.

It's pendulum. GOP got it started in the early 90's and the Dems have been really, really slow and forgiving on the back swing, but eventually that'll break. Fact is, there are very few people that vote for moderation. '24 was a really good test and America failed.

I don't think any candidate would win on a platform of "let's tighten our belts, reduce spending and reduce entitlements". Even Trump ran on a platform of "free stuff" and "the government will help you". He didn't mean a word of it, but he sold it and people bought it.

She's still salty he won and she didn't

She’s not wrong though. Biden needed to step back and announce he wasn’t running in the fall of 2023 and let Dems have a real primary.

Maine likes to keep electing the same people.  Platner has an uphill battle and I think the Dems know it.  If I had to guess that old hag will win again.

Texas will be a real test.  Can a corrupt and villainous criminal beat a normal person for the Senate?  Having lived in this country I’m gonna say yes.

She's wrong when she implies that's the reason why Trump won. It's not, Harris was the heavy favorite to win the primary anyway and nobody else who had a realistic chance of winning the primary would've beaten Trump regardless.

I disagree. I don't think there's any way Harris wins the primary if it actually happened. I'm sure polling a theoretical primary said the VP would win it, but I seriously doubt it would've played out like that.

And who else realistically comes out of the primary to actually overcome the perception of a backsliding economy to beat Trump? Nobody, the answer is nobody.
