I’m not worried too much unless my job slows down too the point we lose hours, though I might retire next year anyway. We are a solid company but we are already experiencing major supply issues we currently have a sheet ton of orders on hold because waiting for parts from our domestic suppliers. We use a lot of local small businesses for fabricated parts, and they are also experience supply issues. That's a great situation to be in. We could probably last 2-3 years if we both lost our jobs right now (without having to dip into retirement). Obviously I don't want to have that happen.

Technically the position is "at risk", so I could be laid off after the project is over, but my new boss made it sound like they have a ton of initiatives down the road so I shouldn't worry about it.Ironically, I gave my 2 weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday took a train to NYC because we had a get to know each other working session planned for my new project. So that wasn't weird at all

June 6Jun 6 glad to hear you gave your notice to transition to something else on your own volition. I feel confident enough in my role here, but it sucks. I had to lay off a guy I hired 9 years ago myself.

The tech isn't something I've ever worked with before so it's a risk, but I tend to pick up on these things quickly. One of the companies they acquired I actually architected, designed and wrote their AMI system, and it was my first AMI project, so you know I used that as an example during the interview

Gee, we just can't trust government data all of a sudden! Ummmmm there's always after month revisions to the job reports dumb dumb. For example, the March and April jobs reports were revised down by a total of 95,000 jobs. But I guess it's only a big deal when it happens under a democrat president....

I've been at my current company for 24 years.I went through a similar transition a few years ago. Had been at same consulting company for close to 18 years then gave my notice and moved onto something very different in government employment. Was there for 2 years, then a position opened up on the owner’s side of my old field and I took that opportunity. It was very unnerving to leave the first job but I’ve never regretted it and I was fortunate to be able to leave on positive terms so I’ve always felt like I had that as open door to fall back on if the move turned out to not be right for me. At this point, 3 years removed from working there, I don’t ever see myself going back.

So far I like the few folks who I know I will be working with and it seems like its a place that takes care of their folks better than where I currently am at. (24 years ago, forget about it. My current spot was one of the best when it came to benefits, work of life balance, etc. That eroded over the past 2 decades and it accelerated the past 4 years with the old CEO coming out and the new CEO who came in)

I enjoyed what I did with the state but saw a long road of spending the rest of my career fighting for legislative changes to make my program more effective and helpful to PA communities. Then an opportunity in my old field that offered the best of both worlds - work that I enjoy, schedule flexibility of consulting, and work-life balance closer to what the state offered so I jumped at it and so far it has been the best move I could’ve made.
