Part of that actually has to do with construction methods.

Previously the limiting factor on housing construction was the roof rafters, in both speed and size. A few decades ago, carpenters started using gang plates for tying roof rafters together. The idea was that construction would be able to be done quicker, and we'd get some nice volume, however the gang plates allowed for larger rafters to be constructed, so companies started increasing the square footage of the houses they were building since the rafters could now structurally support a larger footprint. Ergo we got the McMansion boom.

Anecdotally, one thing I'm noticing with new developments wrt to trying to maximize volume is the decrease in lot sizes relative to the size of the houses. No more half acre to acre sized lots. New homes you can pretty much reach out your window and high-five your neighbor.

I have a fairly large home on a small dead end road, just a few houses. Im the only person that has a real back yard on the entire street, the rest are all postage stamp yards

My brother has been sneaking in beers for years. I think they check one out of every 20 people. The most he got into the game was 8. It saves quite a bit of money, but he often will still buy some there since he shares his haul into the stadium with people around us.

I never snuck in beers. But I almost got kicked out of a Phillies-Rockies game because someone else was sneaking in mini bottles of booze.

It was that game in 2009 in Denver that got pushed back a day due to the extreme cold. Next day? Still really Fing cold.

Anyway we were sitting in the rock pile and some college aged kids a few rows up snuck in a bunch of mini bottles of liquor. They were SLAMMING them, I assume to keep warm, and decided to start chucking them over the railing. One ended up landing at the feet of security and he looks straight at us first like "these Fing Phillies fans”.
