  • Some quick thoughts on "Liberation Day," also known as "Liquidation Day." Obviously, these tariffs are way beyond anything the market expected. I think very little of Trump and the administration

Seems like a pretty easy ask honestly. Surely one economist shouldn't be hard to find.

Not one smart person does, DE. Only smart people are on your side. Nobody who supports these tariffs can be labeled as intelligent. There aren't smart people on both sides we can just concede doom is in the future.

Name one economist who isn't part of the administration who thinks getting to zero trade balances with every country is advisable or possible.

Won’t happen. I don’t even think the Orange Buffon thinks that. The whole framing of trade deficits as tariffs charged to the US etc is all built for one thing and one thing only.

They know their support base are morons (plenty of evidence on here) so when this probably ends with some minor concessions, he can sell it as a big win for America for the morons to lap it up and waive their flags and MAGA hats. They will trust anything he says and move on while the trade deficits with places like Vietnam will continue on.

Plenty of retards are on Trump's side. Anyone who understands economics...not so much.

Sounds awesome. Only smart people on one side so doom is coming and it's going to be a disaster. We can wrap this up now and get ready to drive past shanty towns.

Just one buddy. Don't cop out. I believe in you!

Your boy shaved like 2 years of stock market growth and your retort is "Biden got us into this mess". What is anybody supposed to do with that stubborness?

Mock it for our own personal entertainment. Next question.

Well....yeah. All you need is an ECON101 course though so there's definitely hope.

Stuff like this is just bad for us

"I don't have time to answer, I only have to time post nothing over and over again!"

Oh.

You're not even exaggerating much. I feel like even the most basic understanding of elasticity would blow up at least 50% of the pro tariff arguments I've seen around here.

DOW down 400 500 as we head to the closing bell.

Eric Daugherty is so awesome.  His lack of economic literacy is matched only by his lack of ability to grow facial hair properly.

Of course not, he's demanding historical reparations and ownership of Gaza free of charge for his new TrumpGaza resort.

Yeah, and those people are morons and deserve every bit of this. After seeing his mental infirmity and cravenness for 4 years, and then Jan 6, anyone who voted for him again thinking he was anything other than a complete imbecile is just simply a moron.

There's a zero point zero chance people this dumb are able to remain gainfully employed without straight up lying to their new employers about their qualifications. Basically stealing money from whatever company they work at for a handful of months before management realizes how retarded they actually are and shows them the door.

Does he have that degree yet is the question.

The most concerning thing today was that treasury rates moved up very sharply. The 10 year is above 4.2%, up from 3.99% on Friday. The 10 year is now higher than before Trump announced his tariffs. The strong market rumor is that China has been an aggressive seller. Market turbulence should lead to a flight to safety that drives yields down...and that hasn't happened. China/Japan/EU starting to dump treasuries is the ultimate black swan, but we always assumed it would never happen as it is mutually assured destruction. Feels like China sending a message.
