Time to throw is a really muddy stat.

You want fast processing, fast decisions, and a fast release.

You also want a QB to accept a secure pocket when the OL provides him with one.  Don't force a bad throw, don't bail.  I've seen prime Manning and Brady sit flat footed in clean pockets for what felt like 5,6+ seconds just waiting.  If you do that because you aren't setting open reads, it's a problem.  If you do it because no one is open and the pocket is still solid, then kudos.

In general, lower numbers are better, but there are enough situations where holding onto the ball for 5+ seconds is actually a good thing that it makes it tough to put too much value into the stat.

But they'd typically take the sack or throw it away

You have Mahomes who has a career time to throw closer to 4 seconds and Brady who's closer to 2.5 seconds. Both have multiple SB rings and yet opposite ends of the spectrum for TTT.

TTT by itself isn't very useful, but you generally want your QB to stay consistent.

It would be an impossible stat to compile, but I would be interested in "delay time."  You fail to see an open target altogether, add a set amount of time.  When you target someone, what is the delay between the ideal time to release the ball in that route and when it was actually released?  It could be a slow developing deep route best release 4 seconds in, if it happens at 4.5, then .5 seconds added.  Controls for different routes, different pockets, etc.  But again, impossible to objectively compile.

If it were *theoretically* possible, average delay time would quantify the ability of a QB to see the field in front of him and make the right read.  As long as they can actually execute the throws, technically an average delay time approaching 0 would be the perfect QB.

This is great stuff... and I think we all hope it continues, but we need to be realistic about the teams they faced in this stretch.   2-6, 2-6, 3-5.... Combined record: 7 - 17.  The Jags fit perfectly with that... another 2-6 team.   NOW, maybe this 4 game stretch is what this team needed paired with the bye to 'get right'.  Let's hope.  The 4 games after this week will be very telling.

It was a helluva run.  I didn't know he had that level of burst... but once he got through the initial gap in the line (where the hold was) he was fired through the rest of the defense like a heat seeking missile.

He seemed pretty quick with burst at Clemson but I was worried about his contact balance. Hopefully he gets more burn as the season progresses. I don't want to see Barkley burned out before playoffs.

I think the Eagles played a good team on Sunday.  Burrow came out of the blocks dealing.  Some of the throws he made were incredible.  That might be the best QB play they see all year.

I'm not worried about level of competition.  I'm just worried if Sunday was a flashback mirage or if we can reliably expect more of the same moving forward.

That's more than a tad exaggerated.  Mahomes is almost always between 2.82 and 2.90 throughout his career.  He was 2.97 last season, largely because the WR talent he had to work with was diminished; it takes longer to throw the ball if it takes your targets longer to get open.

It's an extremely useful stat, because every NFL offense is designed to complete the throw to the target at the top of their route, and it's historically proven that QBs who hold the ball longer than 3 seconds as the norm take much more physical punishment.  QB injuries are mostly the result of cumulative punishment over the course of a season.  As Cam Newton and many RBs have demonstrated, cumulative punishment doesn't just go away over the course of an offseason.

From a pure passing perspective, it will be the best. The most difficult will be Lamar.

Obviously.  But its not like Harper hasn't been involved in campaigning for guys in the past...  Schwarber, Castellanos, Realmuto, and Turner... so there's a non-zero chance this is real.

A good team with a terrible record, for a reason, and without one of their top targets in the passing game.  Grain of salt recommended.

And we were down three starters on offense.

Enough with the negative waves.

Reality waves.  There was nothing negative about what I posted.  What we have seen is exactly what we SHOULD see from this team, if they are a legit contender.  The fact that we haven't seen it consistently for about a full calendar year means that more data is needed before we know if they are truly "back" or just the beneficiaries of a good schedule.   Beating Cincy in Cincy for the first time ever is nice, but in the grand scheme of things, the previous record in Cincy is irrelevant to these players and this team.   The last time this team played at Cincinnati was 2016, and only Brandon Graham was there on the team then and now.  (Lane Johnson was suspended for that game and wasn't allowed to travel with the team.)

I take it with a grain of salt because they were an average abruptly transitioning to very below average team for 18 games last year...and an average team for 6 games this year.  24 games should push 2022 out of our consideration.

But Sunday was incredible.  I think they played a team that played at a high level and ran into a buzz saw.  I have no idea if they can keep it going and may not hold my breath, but I don't think we can overstate just how good they were Sunday.

I wonder if Burrow gets the same hate that Hurts does with a squad that doesn't have a win at home.

He only has 130 carries so far

He also has an insane 4.3yds/carry before getting touched (that's higher than Henry). He was averaging 1.7yds with Giants. We don't need to baby his touches

Is that sustainable though? Does he need 3-4 seconds or is that just for the plays to develop?

If they're using 7 man protections, then yes. They were able to double 3 pass-rushers on multiple plays than have Lane 1 on 1 with the LDE. That can work. The downside is that this approach works MUCH better against zone than man though. Against man, Brown/Smith aren't finding holes in the zone. Teams usually play a lot of zone against us because of Jalen's ability as a runner and teams being terrified of our go-balls.

Hardest game on the schedule got harder while the easiest game on the schedule got easier

Pick flop. Panthers get a 5th, Ravens get Johnson and a 6th.

Dotson trade looks worse the more these trades happen.

ALways thought he was just a guy.

Diontae Johnson is very, very good.

Carl Granderson for a 6th.

Let's go Howie.

You mean receiver? Derrick Henry is almost at 1,000 rushing yards already. Over if you include receiving.

Oh sorry… I meant it was the Panthers best offensive player that the ravens got.  And yes, he probably will be the Ravens best receiver…
