Hurts has hit his peak. He can't progress through his reads now and never will at this point. If the number one option is covered, the play is cooked.

So for those of us who didn't get to watch. Would playing in the pre-season help this team at all?

I think so.  I think a quarter in one preseason game and a few more series in another game could have helped some.

Anyone catch how @HazletonEagle’s man crush Cooper DeJean played?

better than Maddox. And my other guy Shipley is the best decoy in the NFL.

Tbh actually thought the LBs looked better than the safety position and pass rush tonight. Didn’t have that on my bingo card

When you have one safety who isn't a safety, that's definitely the kind of situation you may find yourself in.

So Hurts is Daniel Jones now? Or should be, you're saying?

But clearly it was Sirianni who threw all those picks.

Not as bad as Jones but he’s not a $250 million QB and shouldn’t be given the reigns with the talent around him.

No, this is what you said

"In fairness to Hurts, this is his first game - and the offense’s first game - in a much more complex offense.

And it was.

You’re the only one who seems to think this is the same offense as last season.

Well, you’re wrong.

Couldn’t beat out Maddox to even get on the field - what a scrub

He missed a tackle on Reed's TD but that's a tough tackle to make on a speedy WR like Reed in the open field. Overall body of work though, I don't know who was better. Q played really well but missed a couple reads himself. Everyone else was forgettable. Dean flashed but that drop stands out and he got burned after biting on play action.

Yeah. I won’t kill him for the missed tackle, although I don’t know that it was necessarily a tough play. Overall, he was pretty good.

I mean i could make the argument that Blankenship is better as a 3rd safety and CJGJ better as a slot

I never understood the Blankenship hate. He's good. Last year he had garbage next to him. He's got CJG back.

Who can't tackle just like the last guy, but hopefully he'll improve.

yeah with 26 there is no need for that play

It was only unstoppable with Kelce IMO.

may be the next jersey I get.

His rushing ability was always little overrated IMO.

He seemed a lot more elusive and faster before. The speed dropped off quick.

I thought our defense played well overall. They got red zone stops when they needed to. They kept the game close in the 1st quarter when the Packers had the ball almost the entire quarter.

They did against a fully healthy Packers offense and we were missing Rodgers. The downgrade from Rodgers to Maddox is well. Maddox got picked on.

Relax. New system. No pre-season games. Gotta give him a few games then dump on him.

OK.  Let us know when to start.

Impressions before bed. Hurts was terrible. Saquon was terrific. Lane was bad. Jurgens was up and down, more down. Becton was very good, better than Dickerson. The WRs were good. Dotson had nothing to do. Dean was very good. Mitchell had some great plays and complete whiffs. Davis was fantastic. The OC and DC were the difference. We’ll be better, much better next week.

Hey, we won. Nobody got hurt that I’m aware of. It sucks for GB if Love is out going forward.

Good night all.

Really good:

Barkley.  Best player on the field, best player on our offense.

Smith.  Found a way to consistently get open on a crap surface, found a way to draw a PI the one time he wasn’t open.

Brown.  Trademark big plays on yards after contact.

Baun.  Best player on the defense tonight.

Blankenship.  They don’t win without that incredible ball hawking INT.

Q.  Really showed his talent for a rookie playing a week 1 game under the bright lights.  He showed a few rookie mistakes, but he’s not going to be in over his head covering anyone.

They won a game against a hot pick team in week 1 on a bad surface in another continent with (what seems to be) no major injuries.  That’s a great outcome.

Neutral:

Edge rushers.  They were completely invisible.  But the GB edge rush didn’t do much outside of lining up in the neutral zone and catching Lane sleeping.  This was a really bad surface for anyone who likes to bend around the edge.  Unplayable, almost.  I think it’s only fair to defer their evaluation for another week.

Bad:

Maddox & CJGJ.  Both were consistent liabilities.

Hurts.  This will be a discussion point all week.  He sucked.  He’s the biggest concern on the team moving forward.

Kickoffs/returns.  I don’t even know if we are good at them or not.  All I know is it’s painful to watch.

Offensive scheme.  This is more circling back to an indictment of Hurts, not Moore.  But an evolving defense that is working back to average with no immediate hopes of being anything special paired with a ball control RB centric offense that relies on RB running with caretaker level passing…..that’s a total package that can win some games but is zero threat to compete for a championship.  Say what you want about enjoying a week 1 win against a playoff team on a bad surface in another continent…that model of football team isn’t winning anything and we all know it.

The second half of that is correct, the first half of that is some of the most wishful thinking around. Blank has been good, but people are down on him because they're obsessed with athleticism over play. Which is the exact reason why people whined all offseason for a safety like Gardner-Johnson who struggles to tackle reliably. But we'll see.

He absolutely has to get better to be deserving of it, yes.

I like Blankenship. Heck two years ago i thought he could become a solid starter. But i can make the argument you can upgrade from what he is and be in a better at both spots. He is ok as a starter.

Good night all.

Was Lane consistently bad or did he have one play where he never got out of his stance?

Great plays and complete whiffs is pretty much a good start for a rookie starting in week 1 who was likely a major target in GB’s game plan.

I noticed pretty minimal WTF were they thinking play calls and matchups from a coaching perspective on both sides of the ball.

But Gardner-Johnson is the best safety! We absolutely had to bring him back! It was a massive mistake to let him go! It doesn't matter that he's not good at tackling! It doesn't matter that he's not assignment sound! It's fine because he picks off the ball! He'll be our next Malcolm Jenkins!

...Even though he's a safety and not a corner.

Very impressive holding packers to 6 at the beginning. I’m pleased
