Sorry if posted, I've been busy.

Sounds like Fangio doesn't like not playing starters in preseason. He was asked yesterday about Jordan Davis' conditioning, and Jalen Carter's development and to both he said ask again after the game because they have only practiced, and he said practice reps aren't the same as preseason game reps which they didn't get.

He also noted that when preparing for the Packers offense they run a lot of play action...and he said they didn't see that much in practice from the offense.

Sounds like the excuses are being prepared 😂

It’s not like the NFL hasn’t played on Labor Day weekend before. The opener in ‘97 was actually in August as I recall. They played the Giants at the Meadowlands with Rodney Peete starting and lost. I was in Florida at the time and had to watch at a sports bar. Horrible game. I think that was the weekend Princess Di was killed.

The same weekend Wayne Gretzky decided he couldn't keep leading a double life:

For me on flights it is simple -- no alcohol, no sleeping, lots of water (and maybe a soda), and aisle seat because I will be peeing a lot. Unless it is a redeye (which I haven't taken in years), I force myself not to sleep (this doesn't apply when flying home from Vegas). Sleep on a plane isn't real sleep, even with a lay flat seat. Get to the hotel and fall asleep in a real bed.

Amateur.  I'm out cold before take off and MAYBE wake up when we land.

One of the best reads for me personally to better understand how teams utilize the salary cap in different ways...

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2024/9/3/24232073/dallas-cowboys-philadelphia-eagles-differ-fundamentally-how-use-salary-cap-void-years-restructures

Dallas has always been one of the lowest cash spenders in the league. Jerry could have freed up massive amounts of cap space by extending Ceedee and Dak before the league year started, but that would have required spending cash immediately. What Howie does is made possible by Lurie's willingness to spend cold, hard cash.

The downside to the Eagles approach is 2 fold -- first, it makes guys very difficult to cut while they are in the guaranteed portion of their contract; second, it leaves massive dead money at the end of the contract (Hurts will count over $97mm on the 2029 cap to not be on the team if he isn't extended or reworked). But the hack here is simple --since the cap goes up every year, that $97mm will be a smaller percentage of the overall cap than it would be by taking it in early years. The NFL basically let's teams borrow interest free from future years.

The option bonus structure actually makes it easier to trade guys (since the acquiring teams take over the option payments), but harder to cut them.

Shanahan and Lynch on the hot seat...this guy seems to be a legit reporter.

I wouldn’t doubt it. I don’t think the niners plans was ever to keep aiyuk and Deebo. It was one or the other hence why they drafted Pearsall as high as they did and even cowing in the middle of the draft. I also can see them not wanting to give Trent Williams an extension at 36 years old when he had 3 years left on his contract. All while they are going to have to pay purdy after this year. I’m assuming the wasted assets on Trey Lance probably doesn’t help. They were able to withstand it cause purdy saved them.

The guys hates the soft ass new rules for practices in the NFL. He misses the "old days", where football was practiced and played like it should be. Men were REAL men and tough. Practices were hard and long. I can't blame him. In todays NFL, they will be playing flag football in a few years, with skirts on.

Does anyone know if Peacock has blackout restrictions? I live in South Jersey, and the game will be on NBC10. However, I’m out of town and without cable until Saturday. Can we still watch the game on Peacock, or should we go to a bar or something?

Eh... what does Vic Fangio know about preparing a team for a season in the NFL?  He should stick to writing greeting card poems or whatever... oh wait, that's Sirianni's role.   My mistake.  Fangio is a veteran NFL coach who's been around the block more than a few times.  His opinion should carry more weight than it does.   But, we'll find out soon enough.

The funny part is that everyone focuses on the starts to the season in 2022 and 2023, but forget about 2021 when they were installing two new systems under Steichen and Gannon.  IIRC, they didn't fare too well in the early part of the season that year and it wasn't until that flower pot speech that things seemed to start to turn around for them that season.  It wasn't until Halloween that things started to click.  I could be wrong, but maybe when new systems are being installed, they should be a little more aggressive in getting the starters on the field for PS games and working on some of these things in game conditions.  And this year they have... two new systems with Moore and Fangio.  🤔

Jerry Jones's refusal to extend players early only makes sense if you look at it from a cash spending perspective.

Driscoll coming back was the biggest lock ever.

Imagine Jordan Davis on a commercial coach flight 😳

Jordan got here from Australia and I doubt he came via boat. I'm sure it wasn't the most comfortable trip for him though. It would be interesting to know what airlines do with seating on NFL charters. Remove some seats? Replace some coach seating with first class/business class seats? I have no idea. Bob Kraft and the Patriots have the right idea. They bought not one but two 767s. Apparently retired airline airplanes that are close to a major maintenance event are surprisingly cheap relatively speaking. Of course once that major maintenance event comes due

This is what I think of when they bring back guys like Stoll and Driscoll. Love them some average white boys.

It's a fair question as to whether Shanahan is the coach to be able to win a Super Bowl.
