Tuesday noon Predictions Update

A short week for this game one contest with the Packers ... with a slow start.  Only 4 predictions recorded thus far.  3 for an Eagles win and 1 for a Packers win.

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.

A list of the predictions is presented below, sorted alphabetically by the name of the predictor.  If you don't see your name there, then I haven't yet recorded a prediction for you.

It's a fair question as to whether Shanahan is the coach to be able to win a Super Bowl.

Possible. He’s gotten to 2 SBs and lost to mahomes both times. He’s been to 4 nfc title games. Pretty good resume for a coach who’s QBs have been Jimmy G and purdy with that type of success. Tbh i think people would be far less concerned heading into this year with the eagles if he was their coach. Don’t get me wrong i think he has warts and flaws. But i think if he’s fired he wouldn’t be out of a job for very long.

to me, the John Lynch aspect makes way more sense. Because John Lynch would have been crucified if Brock Purdy didn’t turn out the way he did. He gets credit for identifying him in the 7th round and taking that chance. But what he gave up for Trey Lance would’ve sunk and hurt them if purdy didn’t become what he has. To me they’d still be searching for a QB and having to trade more assets to get it or they would’ve gone kirk cousins.

This is what I think of when they bring back guys like Stoll and Driscoll. Love them some average white boys.

Who would be a better backup swing OL than Driscoll that's available right now that they could put on the practice squad?

Oh, I'm not mad about it. Just what I think of. I like Driscoll more than I like Stoll that's for sure.

@mattwill  Eagles 33 Packers 20  Jalen Carter gets a sack

He'd be snatched up as quickly as AR was... except he might not get the HC spot.  The real wart sitting there with him and Lynch and the 49ers organization is how much they gave up to go get Trey Lance... and then how quickly they cut bait on Lance and got essentially nothing in return, especially when compared to what they gave up to draft him.   So, they greatly overvalued him in the draft process, then they didn't manage to make him look good enough to have any real trade value left when they decided to move on and move forward with Purdy.   They handled both ends of that process horrifically.

I would have a really hard time believing Kyle Shanahan wouldn’t get another head coaching job. I don’t see him going back to being a OC when he’s had the type of success he’s had. I think there would be teams that would hire him if they let go of their coaches at the end of this year. Frankly if Buffalo or bengals disappoint, i could see them moving on and him being a serious contender if the niners fire him. Kind of think both NY teams would be in on him if they moved on from their coaches

I agree with you on the Trey Lance ordeal. I also think they handled the Jimmy G thing poorly as well. By the end of that, it was known that there was massive issues going on between Jimmy G, Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers. I don’t think they handle that well either.

Jerry Jones's refusal to extend players early only makes sense if you look at it from a cash spending perspective.

I’m glad he hasn’t extended Dak. Let Dak win something in the postseason, something meaningful, if he doesn’t, eat the 40 mil next year. No reason to strap yourself long term. If he does do something meaningful this year, then you worry about paying him.

Without a doubt, and I'd say definitely for a head coach position. The niners offense would be bananas if they had a QB like Herbert at the helm.

Imagine Jordan Davis on a commercial coach flight 😳

My daughter loves to travel. She has seen a lot of Europe taking the cheap coach middle seat.  She is 5’ 10”.  I can just imagine her deciding to visit Australia and finding Mailata sitting next to her on the plane.

I think even the Eagles would be tempted to boot Sirianni out the door if they had a chance to land Shanahan

@mattwill

Bonus Prediction: Eagles get two picks.

The biggest key to long flights is hydration. I'm sure this will get me booed mercilessly, but the dumbest thing you can do when flying is to drink alcohol. I'm sure they will be giving the guys water and electrolytes.

Disagree. I hydrate just fine but I drink wine on long flights.

@mattwill

As you can see from my signature, this Friday will be 3 years exactly since I lost the best boy ever -- McNabb (yes, that was my dog's name). He was a Jack Russell who, like his namesake, got older and fatter as time went on. The little guy even tore his ACL. On top of that, @e-a-g-l-e-s eagles! had to say goodbye to his dog in the last few days. So...we're doing this for the dogs.

Eagles 31

Packers 20

Bonus: Nolan Smith gets a sack

Kyle Shanahan is a great play designer but a God awful gameday coach. Look no further than his failure to challenge Devonta's 4th down catch on the 1st drive of the NFC Championship game. He's also the genius who had a backup TE trying to block Reddick. He's great on paper and drawing things up, but he always comes up short in the big moments. He's one of the most overrated head coaches in the game -- Sean Payton is the GOAT of overrated coaches, but Shanahan is up there.

Chucky is back. Not too much to the video though.

For me on flights it is simple -- no alcohol, no sleeping, lots of water (and maybe a soda), and aisle seat because I will be peeing a lot. Unless it is a redeye (which I haven't taken in years), I force myself not to sleep (this doesn't apply when flying home from Vegas). Sleep on a plane isn't real sleep, even with a lay flat seat. Get to the hotel and fall asleep in a real bed.

Before I retired, for thirty years I averaged more than a trip a week.  When I was young, I developed the ability to sleep anywhere. So I slept a lot on planes. Overseas trips were usually United in Business Class laydown seats.  Trick to beating jet lag is to sleep when you would be sleeping where you are going. So overseas at night I would sleep as soon as I boarded but wake up way before the others.   Going west, I would force myself to stay awake.  I avoided red eyes with a passion domestically.

@mattwill

Hate predicting a loss to start, but I think GB easily proves to be the toughest opening day opponent in Sirianni’s 4 seasons.

GB 27

Birds 21

Bonus: Hurts 2 INTs.

Out of college I was an investment banker in LA, so the redeye to NYC was a monthly thing (at a minimum). Back then I was working 80-110 hours a week, and there was no Wi-fi on planes, so the LA-NYC flight was a guaranteed 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I'd be out before takeoff in business class (or first if I could get the upgrade). It was heaven. But I'd do it because we'd land at JFK around 5:30am, head to the city, and only have time to shower and head to the office.

Once I left banking, I swore off redeyes. Now, I just crash after I land and get to the hotel.

GB 31

Eagles 17

Too much GB offense.

Bonus:  Beautiful Brazilian babes in the stands.  A lot of TV honey shots.

They couldn't sign anyone this offseason because of Dak's cap hit.  I get it if the plan is to move on from Dak but his price isn't going down by waiting and they don't seem to be planning to move on from him.

Does anyone know if Peacock has blackout restrictions? I live in South Jersey, and the game will be on NBC10. However, I’m out of town and without cable until Saturday. Can we still watch the game on Peacock, or should we go to a bar or something?

I can’t say for certain but I think it is extremely unlikely that it would be blacked out. That would kind of defeat their purpose.
