I do wonder if everyone is looking for the QB on a rookie deal cheat code, so that leads to QBs being overdrafted.

Yeah that's actually a really good point too. I wonder if the introduction of the post-Bradford rookie pay scale ultimately resulted in a higher number of QBs taken in the first rd (or just higher rounds on avg) compared to the years prior to the pay scale.

Pretty interesting trend. The league has always been cyclical and we might be seeing the needle move back to rushing attacks. Especially in the red zone where it tightens up and is harder for QBs to make the necessary throws. This also might be a tale on the overall quality of quarterbacks outside of the top tier of guys.

Obviously, it is up to the Eagles to put up 45 tonight (TDs).

@mattwill

Falcons 26

Eagles 34

Bonus: Baun 2 more sacks

Yes it is certainly easier to recover from a 1st round QB that busts because of the rookie scale.

I don't subscribe to that line of thinking.  I suspect that if Howie had the option to have Tanner McKee or Bryce Young, he would choose McKee.

What about the option of saving a 3rd round pick in favor of choosing McKee over Pickett

Now you see kids having one or two good years and going pro with maybe 25-30 starts. And it shows.

Actually, I think that trend might reverse with the NIL money pouring in while the NFL rookie pay scale limits their potential earnings at the pro level. I forget his name but there was that flash in the pain OSU QB with a big arm that stepped in for an injured JT Barrett, had success on a stacked team, and then decided to go pro way too early and torpedoed his career before it even started. I wonder if the NIL money was aroudn back then, if he'd have made a different decision.

CBP lot is still not open.  I'm sitting at the locked gate.  You guys are liars!!!!

Curious if they are cracking down on tailgate today.  We were there Saturday and they had bike and a few waddling security guards reminding everyone no tailgating every 30 minutes.  No chairs you guys.

Me?  "F you, my dad just got done with chemo\radiation treatments and it's his first time out in months.  He's sitting".  After the 4th or 5th yellow jacket it became my goal to make them feel as uncomfortable as possible every time they stopped by.

I would have kept Johnson instead of keeping 6 ILB's

They would have had to do something like this eventually, as Gates' elevations would have run out.

Tells you what they think of Kinnard.

So...other than Stroud, we may be at a point where the college game is no longer producing NFL ready QBs.

Is it because Stroud is good or that he's on a great supporting cast? The team was built pretty well

I'm not seeing the connection to Kinnard. They had him playing T all TC. Gates is the backup C.

It's easy for college QBs to look great when maybe one player on the opposing defense would start in the NFL.

You have to be careful with that logic because Josh Allen didn't play against anyone at Wyoming. Wentz didn't play against anyone at North Dakota State and he was on a good trajectory before the injuries. Bryce Young played against elite competition in the SEC and hasn't translated.

Stroud played great last year with half the supporting cast he has this year. He's good.

They didn't have a great supporting cast last season. Nico didn't do anything until Stroud took over. I think Stroud elevates him more than Nico elevates Stroud.

No direct connection.  Just that even though he may not play a snap this season, he was seen as less indispensable than Johnson.

Because I'm bored, and also a nerd, going off of vikas' point on the rookie QB deal aspect, I calculated the average number of QBs taken in the first rd since the introduction of the rookie pay scale and compared it to the avg number of QBs taken in the same number of years prior.

Don't worry.  I looked both ways before I posted.

There are always exceptions.

I think the Falcons purposely try to get Cousins moving a little bit more.  I will be completely shocked if it’s a repeat of last week when they played Pittsburgh.  If he really is that much of a statue right now, there’s no reason not to play Penix.

He couldn’t push off his back foot. It slowed his delivery and most of his throws were high. And, he can’t move.

P.S. He takes most of his snaps under center but not last week. Almost everything was out of the gun. He can’t even drop back comfortably.

Looks like Rodgers is going to be active (Eagles showed a video with his gameday pads). I'm going to guess the inactives are

Tanner McKee

AJ Brown

Johnny Wilson

Darian Kinnard

Trevor Keegan

Byron Young

Eli RIcks

Hunt is active in place of Johnson. Devin White should be inactive but I guess they'll just have him stand around on the sideline.

I'm not a Patrick Johnson at all, so I get this.

At the same time, just trade an ILB or a CB.

I suspect they see Baun as their Edge depth if they need it.

Hmmmmmmmm you may have a point there.

Replacing his ST's contributions is the bigger need IMO then whatever depth he gave at EDGE (which wasn't much). He played second most snaps last year (behind Jobe, whose also gone) and led the team last week.

They have 4 EDGEs who are active + Hunt. Also, Milton Williams can play EDGE on run downs.

Fair enough.  That is a well rounded argument.
