Most of the beat reporters going dark on Twitter/X having landed in Brazil. Apparently using a VPN works out there, but I wouldn’t want to be the one to find out how serious the Brazilian government is taking it and end up being Brittney Griner’d.

I like bringing Driscoll back to the PS. The familiarity is a plus.

Except he ain't good.

@mattwill

Week 1, neutral site, unknown field conditions …. basically a crapshoot.

I’ll pick Eagles 24-20.

Bonus — Quinyon Mitchell INT

Season record?

His bad game last year happened when he came in cold after Lane got hurt. But in the week where Lane was out before the game and Driscoll had time to prepare as the starter for that week, he was solid. We're talking about a backup that isn't even on the 53 man roster right now. He can play everywhere except center and has played with all our starters except Steen/Becton. He's better than our FA signings (now gone), Hennessy and Scharping. Driscoll's best season was in 2021 when he played 512 snaps and only allowed 1 sack.

If you expect your backup linemen to play like All Pros, then by all means, yes, Driscoll sucks. But if you expect them to play like marginal starters, then he’s absolutely fine. He was a competent player here for four years. In small doses, he can play at an acceptable level. I would sure as hell prefer him to come in off the practice squad to fill in rather than Toth.

On a slightly related note, it makes me think how remarkably fortunate we were with Vitai in 2017. He filled in and wasn’t the cluster f that so many folks expected. If he had gotten hurt at any point during the season, I’m not sure how far we go.

I can’t stand domestic red eyes.  If you are taking it, chances are you are doing it because you have something to do/function the next day.  Which means you are going to be dragging.  And if there are delays, then everything falls apart.

International is a different story.  I always felt the key was to find a way not to fall asleep (after landing)  until 9pm, ideally 10, once you reach your destination.  That works if you are going East and land in the AM or West and land several hours behind your internal clock.

South America is very easy with jet lag due to minimal time change.  This is barely different for them than a west coast game.  It’s just an extra 3.5 hours on the plane.  But that is more than neutralized by this being week 1 on the front end and 2 extra days rest on the back end.

If I'm laying down on concrete, spikes, slime, anything...I can sleep.  But for the life of me, I cannot sleep in the seated position.  I've taken a ton of red eyes and the f'ing suck.  A couple I remember....1. Flying back from San Francisco to Newark.....this was back in my drinking days.....had an Asian fellow next to me that smelled to high heaven, but besides smelling, he fell asleep right away and snored the whole time.  I instructed the flight attendant to kindly keep bringing me drinks.  By the time I got home, I slept for like 2 days.  2. Flying from Newark to Rome with my then wife for President's Club. Guy next to me and my wife which we knew was like..."You don't sleep on planes?  I have Ambien!"  So I ask her what do you think, ended up taking 2 and....didn't sleep one minute.  By the time I reached Rome I was hallucinating!  3. So after 2, I learned my lesson. President's Club a few years later, new girlfriend, new strategy.....the company paid "obviously" for everything and I was like f it.  I paid for the upgrade for me and her to 1st class.  Had the Pod seat that completely lays down....slept for 5 hours and was absolutely fine.

So the lesson here....if I am flying on a Red Eye and I need to sleep, I'm f'ing getting first class.  There is no other way to travel internationally, on a red eye.

PS, one caveat....I've taken two red eyes to Europe, one to Athens, one to Italy where the plane was relatively empty.....had a full row of seats each time and slept like a baby lifting all the arm rests across the row.

On the flip side, there’s now a lot of film on Love that wasn’t available last season. I feel like I’m in the minority here but I think the packers come back down to earth. They had a great playoff run but I don’t think that roster is as good as everyone is hyping them up to be

Agreed, eagles are the better squad and should win this game

Jordan Love could end up being good and Josh Jacobs will give defenses headaches but I feel like their defense is overrated. They got by without having to play against many legitimate offenses last year but I don't expect that to be the case again this year.

He played center for the Dolphins in preseason.

Starting to seem like that ad might have actually been put up by the Eagles organization despite their backtrack.  Their directer of team relations Christian Molnar has deleted a tweet saying it's a crime that the one guy was out there covering up the infamous ad.  A lot on Twitter right now about this for those interested.

It's a shame really, but you're gonna have to delete your account to show them you won't stand for this nonsense.

Why are you so worried about this topic?

Lurie shouldn't be using the Eagles to push his politics on the team and the fanbase

Couldn't agree more. Delete your account.

Looks like a wierd stadium tbh - and only 50k. I guess they didn't want it not being full.

Most stadiums are publicly funded. The decision to do that therefore becomes a political decision. You can't live in a vacuum.

There is no other professional sports organization in America that has endorsed a presidential candidate. A presidential election is going to have nothing to do with determining local public funding for a stadium. If Lurie wants to endors a candidate himself them go for it but to use the Eaglea franchise to do it is disgusting. Turns off half the fan base and I'm sure plenty within the organization and team as well.

There is so much BS drama surrounding this opening day game- it's ridiculous. I'm not even going to rant about how I feel about playing in a 3rd world country, because who cares what I think. So I am going to try to focus on the actual game. This should be a good one, both teams with a lot of skills. I give the edge to the Packers, because of Siri's refusal to let the starters play in pre season a little to get ready. I will blame Camp Sirisoft if they lose. But because I love my Eagles, I'll take the Eagles 27- 24.

@mattwill

eagles 31

packers 24

bonus: someone returns a new stupid kickoff for a td

I'm optimistic about the Eagles playing a vintage 2022 game where they control the pace and gameclock with a strong rushing attack and do enough on defense to generate some stops or turnovers.

I think Hurts puts the league on notice in this new offense and I can't see the Packers stopping the Eagles at all, only if the Eagles are sloppy.

Sirianni is just along for the ride.  Decisions like that are made by Roseman.

Dude you fell for a fake headline. Just take the L and move on. You're (amazingly) coming off looking even dumber than usual by doubling down.
