To me, this is coaching. My thought on Hurts is that, as a coach's kid, he's going to read it and run it exactly how he is coached. Which isn't a bad thing. But my guess is he is reading it "correctly" per the coaching, and the coaches are being outmaneuvered.

To an extent.  But an RPO us designed as a quick hitter. And they haven't disappeared from football so I suspect other QBs are able to make the quick decision when that first option is taken away.

I'd be mad at the coaches if the RPO was no longer a viable play in the NFL but that's not the case.

As usual, to me this looks like a QB flaw.

Hurts has many times from offseason to now referenced doing what he's asked to do by the coaches, executing the play called. At times, he seems frustrated and the reporters are asking him about the play calls and he is just saying he's doing what he's asked to do.

If Nick is clinging to RPOs and other things that aren't working, then he needs to let go completely and let Moore do it his way fully to see if it works. I hope Moore is in the film room showing Siri what's working and not and being assertive.

I feel like defenses adjusted post 2022 and are bringing down a linebacker, and Hurts isn't seeing it or isn't being taught to read it (more likely). Just feels like defenses have figured out how to present a look that causes Jalen to keep it and trick him, and we aren't adjusting back.

I wish I could remember where I heard this, it was one of the more detailed podcasts so maybe it was Fran Duffy. But apparently Hurts isn't reading DE's anymore because D's are doing that with LB's to combat the RPO. The problem is it's much easier for the LB to disguise what he's actually doing vs a DE but he is trying to read the LB.

Howie probably has the safest job in the whole league. As long as he’s here, there is zero chance Belichick is going to be here.

My top pick is Duce Staley and I know no one will agree with me but you’re all stupid anyways so who cares.

FWIW, I think Duce would be a big improvement.

Baldinger is on WIP breaking down what he saw on film. Doesn't sound thrilled about the scheme Fangio has been running. Says the defensive alignments MN made no sense to him.

Does Hurts always execute what the coaches call?

The Seattle game last year was a perfect example of him and AJ doing what they wanted and not what the coaches called and it ended in an interception.  Who knows how many times this has happened.

Now he has more responsibility at the line with Kelce gone.  We don't know what is called and if Hurts is changing anything at the line.

Maybe a majority of our team are just stupid and don't understand things.

You can teach them over and over but if they keep doing what they are NOT supposed to do then we have a problem.

I mean look at this point there’s a lot of the same players but not the same coaches… so if this continues then yeah maybe that’s what we have to start considering.

Given Howie's job is definitely safe, anyone think Brandon Hunt's job might be on the line? Can't imagine Lurie is happy with so many guys they spent high picks on looking so bad. Could be due for another major scouting department or front office reshuffling.

I said it here during the season.  Probably gave Fran an idea for a video.

No he doesn't.  It's an excuse. Maybe Siri allows him to use it as an excuse to cover for his players like Andy always did.  But it's certainly not true.

Of course not "always," QBs call audibles and improvise at times. He's been with Siri for 3 years, entering his 4th. If he were not executing what the coaches call, you think Nick would just allow it for 3 years? So in trying to blame Hurts, you're also saying Nick is a bad head coach who can't manage a QB and get him to execute the called plays.

After two days of reflection, I'm kind of glad the Eagles showed their true colors Week 2.

Horrible defense. No DL pressure. Missed tackles and assignments from the LBs and secondary.

Offense that is still average at best when Saquon isn't breaking off big runs. Hurts hasn't taken the next step. Bails too soon and locks on to 1st and 2nd reads. Only a gamechanger with his legs in desperation mode.

I'm at peace with it.

No Super Bowl this year.

Our most recent first round pick looks awesome. One of last year's first round picks also looks very good despite some issues.

There are arguments to move on from Howie, but missing on Nolan Smith/Jordan Davis shouldn't be the reasons.

I do think there's a processing part of the problem that has to do with Hurts.  I also think the pass options are too often long sideline throws that don't get to the receiver until the O-line is 3 steps downfield.  To me, they are poorly designed.  The QB RPO's are idiotic. Teams are just having a LB scrape and the Eagles have a TE on the read side so the DE is playing a blocker not chasing the RB.  This means less QB hits but more defenders to stop the QB run.  It's why he looks slower.  He has to make 2 defenders miss if he keeps it.

Wow!  What a game. Lot of positive takeaways from that fruitcake effort.

Hurts' passing chart looks better than it did in 2020 and 2021, for sure.  He threw 2 INT in the middle of the field in Week 1 but still threw better towards the middle in Week 2 than in previous seasons.  Only 8 yards per completion in Week 2 without Brown is somewhat concerning; there needs to be better use of the short/intermediate passing game to allow for some YAC yards.  Those 3-yard throws to Covey at the sideline didn't yield much -- I would rather see short throws to him in the middle of the field and give him room to run after the catch.
