Have we come to accept the fact that Hurts is simply mediocre?

I think he's a top 6-15 guy, he's never going to be the best of the best and he's never going to be the worst, but he'll have games and seasons where he's better than mediocre and you can definitely win with him, just have to have a good plan and supporting cast. Steichen seemed to have the best rapport with him and his playing style. Last year might have ruined him, though. We'll see.

Does Hurts always execute what the coaches call?

The Seattle game last year was a perfect example of him and AJ doing what they wanted and not what the coaches called and it ended in an interception.  Who knows how many times this has happened.

Now he has more responsibility at the line with Kelce gone.  We don't know what is called and if Hurts is changing anything at the line.

Mentioned this in my ‘recap’, it’s early in the season but he’s not doing well with the responsibility.  I’d be curious what the true average clock remaining is, but it seems like even in the hurry up he’s scrambling to get it together with about 5 seconds left every down.

I think he's better than mediocre but he's a ways from elite IMO. About the bottom of the top third of NFL starting QBs so maybe 7th to 10th.

.  Zach Baun...  hero to zero in 10 days!

Wow a 29, holy ish.

is zero the lowest number? Like even if you just stood in one spot the whole game and did nothing.

Eagles DT snaps through 2 weeks

Early downs (93 snaps)
Carter 72
Davis 53
Williams 39
Ojomo 18
Booker 15

Late downs (23 snaps)
Carter 17
Ojomo 12
Williams 8
Davis 3
Booker 1

Interesting (maybe annoying) that Williams isn’t the second pass rushing DT, and I like Ojomo.

Retail is an online business now, the demand for office space is in full decline with remote work - I don’t like subsidizing the 6ers but I don’t see center city as anything other than entertainment zone (plus some hospitals).

I’d rather feel like he knows what the weird object is in the coaches hands next too him.

Interesting, because reporters are talking about the improved numbers against the blitz. He was criticized (along with coaches) for not handling the blitz last year and this year they are. In today's PC a reporter asked him if that's due to him having more autonomy to make the pre-snap calls, or the scheme, or what? He just kind of chuckled and said "I don't know how to answer that." He's been answering like that for months, not wanting to blame any coaches.

But they are doing better against the blitz, and Hurts this year has more responsibility with Kelce gone, so...does Hurts get any credit?

Last year everyone (not here necessarily) got on his case for his lack of emotion, he's not making it about him, he's trying to give the fans what they want. But I don't mean to get in the way of the hating.

Very rudimentary interpretation of what was asked for.  Many wanted him to not make a dumb mistake and go sit on the bench looking like he’s on more drugs than A-Aron on a vision quest.

Time will tell, numbers are looking better for sure, but the play clock is one thing I’ll be keeping a closer eye on.  Pre snap calls matter very little though if the brain farts keep happening.  This team is too talented to look like they do.

well if he slows down and can't use his legs he could possibly become the worst.

We have a bottom 3 defense & a top 5 offense and we're blaming the QB.

The fans want good football and wins. Thats what they feel. QBs come and go

Yep. It goes from he's not vocal enough, to he's too vocal. He doesn't show emotion, now showing emotion is being too cocky and selfish. They are never happy.

If he was good, people would love everything he does. Being hated kinda comes with the territory when you are turrible.

Make that 4 bonus predictions. I said Jalen Wentz adds to his turnovers. He did just that lol

I went back and checked.  Your prediction was "Jalen Wentz adds to his turnovers. Smith 100 yards/Barkley 100 rushing yards"  You did indeed hit on the first of your three, but had a swing and a miss on the second and third ones.

Interesting article about how teams "buy” cap space: putting out insurance claims on mega contracts that pay out when the player gets injured and misses games. The CBA allows the insurance claim to go toward next year’s salary cap. That’s unbelievable….

So guess who takes advantage of this more than any other team?

we apparently have 16 insured players this year, most in the league. Jets lost 22m$ last year in cap space by not insuring Rodgers. Shockingly, there’s a handful of teams that don’t believe it’s worth the effort and don’t insure anyone.

Wednesday evening Predictions Thread update

Hopefully everyone's anger and angst has abated some from Monday night's debacle.  The less said about that the better.  With a short week for this Week Three contest with the Saints we have 4 rather pessimistic predictions recorded thus far.  All are for an Eagles loss. The average predicted score is Eagles 16 and Saints 44.

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  I will be taking predictions right up to Kickoff.

I really like PFF grades. But their usefulness is just to keep stats in context. You can have a really good, productive game and get a low score and vice versa. But when you apply the grade to the stats, it adds context. Baun had a really productive week 1 and a pretty good grade, but he wasn't much of a factor in week 2 and the grade backs that up. I'm not too concerned about a low grade occasionally. I think we're still leaning about Baun as an ILB and should expect a lot of different grades from him as he gains experience.

I dont think you can win with him to be honest. I dont think we are ever going to see 2022 level Jalen Hurts again. That was an anomaly, likely due to the NFL not catching up to our offense yet. They have, and Hurts isnt capable of adjusting with a new, more complicated offense. So he will never ascend to that level again.

You could say maybe they can win with him if he was a game manager and surrounded with a ton of talent. But, he is surrounded by a ton of talent and unfortunately, he is not a game manager. Hes a mistake prone QB who's best is only average.

I guess it comes down to what you mean by "win with him". A bunch of regular season games? Sure. Deep playoff runs? Unlikely. Super bowl? No.

He has always been to selfish and cocky

I actually liked that he did show emotion. I want a QB that gets fired up.

Not a goof that eats gas station sushi and sits on the sidelines by himself in silence.

If he's eating gas station sushi, I'm thinking that he may be sitting alone, but not in silence.  🥴
