I dont think you can win with him to be honest. I dont think we are ever going to see 2022 level Jalen Hurts again. That was an anomaly, likely due to the NFL not catching up to our offense yet. They have, and Hurts isnt capable of adjusting with a new, more complicated offense. So he will never ascend to that level again.

You could say maybe they can win with him if he was a game manager and surrounded with a ton of talent. But, he is surrounded by a ton of talent and unfortunately, he is not a game manager. Hes a mistake prone QB who's best is only average.

I guess it comes down to what you mean by "win with him". A bunch of regular season games? Sure. Deep playoff runs? Unlikely. Super bowl? No.

That's where I'm starting to lean. 11-13 wins? On a loaded team? Yes. SB? .... Probably need a lot of luck and a clear path. Not taking away from his amazing 2022 run, but we've seen qbs have that one year and never do it again

Wednesday evening Predictions Thread update

Hopefully everyone's anger and angst has abated some from Monday night's debacle.  The less said about that the better.

NEVER!

Seriously though, there's a lot to be upset about with that game.   If Barkley catches the ball on 3rd and 3, there'd be a lot of folks saying, "but they won".  Of course, that's pretty much just a repeat of last season.  Winning despite horrific play doesn't last forever.   Eventually if bites you.  This year the bite hit in Week 2, rather than 12.  Same result though.  This team hasn't played well in a while... and now the losses are piling up.  2-7 in their last 9 if you count the playoff game.

Mentioned this in my ‘recap’, it’s early in the season but he’s not doing well with the responsibility.  I’d be curious what the true average clock remaining is, but it seems like even in the hurry up he’s scrambling to get it together with about 5 seconds left every down.

Yeah, obviously I’m not in the meeting rooms but the eye test so far is telling me Hurts is not operating the offense as designed

Where does the QB rank in turnovers?

The same as Mahomes.

Jalen played well until his last pass.

Even with the Barkley drop and the defense collapsing we still had a chance to win with a FG.  Just get into Elliot's range and we still win the game even with all the other BS.

He's got to be smarter especially in crunch time.

That’s really more of a Lurie thing

yep.

Still credit to Howie likely being the one to bring this to Jeff. But we must also appreciate Jeff for his deep pockets and commitment to winning at any cost. Hes the one ponying up cash for the policies. Howie couldnt be elite if he didnt have an elite owner signing checks.

Lurie is a great owner. He’s obviously not perfect and we rightfully complain about things, but on the whole we should be thankful for his tenure. They’ve been a competitive team for the better part of 25 years now. It could have been 100x worse.

Nope.  The fumbling is also part of Hurts’ DNA, and Mahomes won his last game instead of throwing it away with an INT

If he was good, people would love everything he does. Being hated kinda comes with the territory when you are turrible.

It must be difficult for you then, to be hated so much.

I think he's a top 6-15 guy, he's never going to be the best of the best and he's never going to be the worst, but he'll have games and seasons where he's better than mediocre and you can definitely win with him, just have to have a good plan and supporting cast. Steichen seemed to have the best rapport with him and his playing style. Last year might have ruined him, though. We'll see.

He’s had 1 good season about mediocrity as a starter. The rest, he’s been terrible given the team that has been placed around him.

Hard to say from the article how much credit Howie deserves. It seems like it’s kinda known but a lot of owners are just cheap and care more about the bottom line than winning games, which is why I would give the credit to Lurie. If Howie did it bring it to his attention then he definitely deserves some credit.

But yea, I agree part of what makes Howie good is the free rein he seems to get with Lurie.

Hurts is paid at an elite level. Is he playing at that level?

No. Last season Hurts was objectively a 12-14 range rank as a starting QB.  I haven’t seen any improvement yet this season, but the first 2-3 weeks of the season brings about quite a few outliers, like the Saints putting up 45 points per game with Derek Carr at QB.

Biggest thing Hurts needs to focus on is playing clean and eliminating the unforced errors.  15 INT last season and already 3 in two games this year.

@mattwill

Eagles - 17

Saints - 37

Bonus Prediction - Siri will go for it on his first three 4th down scenarios, converting none, instead of punting or taking the easy three points. There will be at least 6 plays in the game that will be bubble screens to Covey, that will gain 2 yards total. DeVonta Smith will get injured blocking on one of those. Big Dom will be seen wearing Kelce's velour track suit on the sideline. Bryce Huff will officially register a "hurry", and celebrate by ripping off his helmet and running down the sideline with his tongue out, Siri chasing and jumping next to him. Howie will sign Malcolm Jenkins for one game, out of retirement to load the box and help with run support, and to stick it to his old team. Taysom Hill will have over 100 yds rushing. Kamara will have 172. Cooper DeJawn will get a pick, and Merrill Reese will mistakenly say it was Reid Blankenship that did it.

6-15 is qb purgatory.  Top 5 is competing for a sb as part of an elite offense.

Outside of 15 is one of two things.  Option 1 is a high draft pick in the first two years of their career whose team still thinks they’ll make it to elite.  Option 2 is a seat warmer and the team is actively looking for another qb.

Again, 6-15 is purgatory.  Too good to dump, not good enough to pay 250m and compete.

I would argue that Hurts has been mediocre since the Buffalo game last year.

mediocre statistically. worse than that by the eye test. and even worse yet in results/team record.

Eagles- 17

Saints- 30

Carr completes at least 70% of his passes @mattwill

Is Jamarr Chase is overrated? Not hard these days in a passing league to put up these numbers since 2021. He and Burrow have alternated injuries so have to take that into consideration I guess.

Eagles 20

Saints 38

Bonus: Carr isn't sacked

Nah. Like you said half of 2023 was with Browning. 2022 he fractured a hip and missed 5 games in the middle of the season. Right now holding out/in all offseason didn’t help. He’s very good. He’s kinda similar to Titans AJ Brown career path in some ways.

I figured but just haven’t seen him destroying teams the last two years. But agreed, injuries and the holdout didn’t help.

Even though it's only 2 weeks in, while there are some aspects of the team(namely the DL) that I've pretty much given up on, I'm not there yet with the coordinators even though through 2 games I haven't been super impressed with either of them. That said, those are the guys I'm going to be most focused on against the Saints.

If the offense comes out with the same BS... every other drop back, Hurts can't find anyone open so he has to roll out and make something happen with his legs. The biggest plays being on Hurts scrambles. Dotson not getting any passes. Goedert not getting any passes. Covey getting 12 targets, etc. I'm gonna be very close to being out on Kellen Moore only 3 weeks into the season.

Same for Fangio. Look, if the DL just sucks, then it sucks. But if I don't see the defense trying anything different and it's just the same story as MNF just vs a better offense, where they're getting gashed on the ground and can't stop the pass either, I think I'm gonna be out on Fangio too.

Don't care if that's impatient. After last season I'm all out of patience. And the big selling point by the team for this offseason was "New coordinators! Believe in us now!" Ok, then. Time to show you can actually make a difference. Look what Kubiak has done to the Saints offense. I want to see a coordinator actually make a difference this Sunday. If you can't, I got no time for ya. Not saying they have to even win the game. But I want to see a team that looks like they've made adjustments and have improved something to look more competent than Monday night.
