Weird way of saying "I was wrong and said something stupid"

Your CVON level reading comprehension is failing you again. I said "will" which clearly implies I am talking about moving forward.

Its been established in previous posts (context escapes you) that 2022 was an anomaly.

I remember talking a few times about the incoming leadership void with the core 4 all on the way out the door and who would step up once they are gone. It's pretty disappointing that one of the guys who publicly acknowledged this and said he would have to step up to lead the defense has already been benched as a disciplinary action in Week f'ing 2. You also gotta wonder how many times Jalen Carter has been late to meetings/practice. I doubt it was just once that caused the Eagles to keep their best defensive player on the bench. You also have to question if he is negatively impacting someone like Jordan Davis who is his best friend. Between the pre-draft stuff and other incidents that happened over last year, you just hope he starts to grow up at some point but he's not off to a good start.

Long term, it's also a bit worrisome to back the brink trucks up for a guy like that. Money changes people even more and if he's still not showing the commitment and dedication needed to be great, you have to really think hard if that's a guy you want to build the defense around. He has talent but he's coming off very Albert Haynesworth like to me.

Fangio and Hurts are equally the biggest issues on this team.

And the pass rush.

thats fangio.

I can't believe I'm going to type this, but...I miss Gannon.

In 2022, we'd have Sweat/Hargrave/Joseph/Cox/Reddick out there on run downs. White and Edwards, along with Slay/JB/Epps/CJGJ. If they threw on 1st down, we trusted the secondary to cover and the rush to get home. We'd stop the run and force guys into and and long, then bring in the pass rush. I have no clue why Fangio won't do the same.

This whole setup is a mess and was doomed from the start. No continuity, no plan, just organized (if you can call it that) chaos all around. Lurie + Howie really created an untenable situation it appears.

Noooo way. That's so outta character for this organization......

First off, there's no way to move off Hurts this year or next year, so just stop speculating on it because it's not happening. After the 2025 season, we could trade him for a manageable cap hit, but really he is locked in on the roster until then.

Can we though?  His contract has a ton of option triggers

By this logic, literally everything that could be used to make your case has also occurred in the past. It might be the dumbest argument anyone's ever tried to make, which is impressive. You're so bad at this.

I wanna rag on Howie a little bit more, because 2024 Howie has really pissed me off. For one, I'm tired of the yearly cycles. Two years good, two years bad. Back in the Doug era. Howie was 2016-2017 good, 2018-2019 bad. Sirianni era: 2021-2022 good, 2023-2024 bad. It's a big reason why they haven't been able to sustain elite play. Every time they climb the mountain, they come crashing back down starting the next season.

There are weird constants and consistencies with this team’s coaches throughout the years. And one of those is when it seems like one of them is in a tailspin or declining, they can never get out of it. 2011 was the declining year for Reid and it imploded in 2012. Chip loses 3 of the last 4 in 2014 and then gets fired a year later. 2019 was a down year for Doug and then the disaster in 2020. And they torpedoed last year with Nick and it feels like the wheels are about to come off again after this past week.

Yep, and on passing downs, we also ran a ton of Cover-2 Man with Gannon, which I prefer over Cover-3 or Cover-4. Gives the DL a bit more time to get home.

Because of the use of option bonuses, a trade moves a chunk of the gteed money to the acquiring team. In March 2025, his full 2026 comp gets guaranteed ($16.5mm already gteed as of March 2024). He got a $23,294,000 signing bonus, and the remaining will be just over $9mm to charge. I have the total dead money at ~55mm, spotrac has it ~$52mm. The numbers you posted are for cutting him, where the 2026 gteed money ($46mm) hits us -- if we trade him, that goes to the acquiring team.

Of course, he has a no trade clause, so...

The Howie structures with the option bonuses makes trading guys a lot more feasible than cutting them. So, if Hurts were to waive his no-trade, and you just wanted him off the books, you could do an Osweiler and give a team a pick to take the contract if no one wanted him.

I've said this before, but option bonuses always trip me up.  I need to do a better job there.

Is Belicheck above coming on as a DC here? Maybe he wants a slightly diminished role so he can have some time with his girlfriend. I dont really want him as HC, but Id sure like him to come fix this defense.

Hes a guy who can re-create a defense or at least aspects of it right in the middle of a season too. I remember the one year they had a poor defense, and he at least found a way to make the pieces work well enough to become a top red zone defense.

I dont see why we owe Fangio any favors. He wanted to be our DC and ended up in Miami. He got released from his contract to be able to come here when our job opened back up so he can be close to home. Thats nice. But if hes not going to even associate with the other coaches on staff thats crazy. Theres a certain level of professionalism that is not being met. And that creates a toxic environment. Unnecessary issues to bring in to the NovaCare Complex for a head coach who is already on the ropes.

Yup.

You're on a roll today.

They can’t replace Fangio after the Desai/Patricia debacle last year. For better or worse he will be here at least 2 seasons I’d guess.

Given Hurts' production, the contract is not a barrier to success (yet). Look at his cap hits. It's fine.

If he went on the trade-market, the bidding starts at 2 1st rounders. Look around the NFL, QB thirst is very real.

Agreed.   And then there's the old saying about why people are drinking the sand.

Are they drinking the sand because they are thirsty, or are they drinking the sand because they can't tell the difference?   A lot of the NFL gets caught being super thirsty for a QB that they convince themselves that the QB they have the opportunity to land is the answer to their issue... and then, rather than letting them develop and learn how to play QB in the NFL, they throw them to the wolves and ruin whatever chance they might have had of succeeding.
