I think this is a misconception about those teams.  He only had a top 5 defense one time in his time as head coach.  They had an incredible defensive line but they had a lot of issues in the secondary.

The best defense the Eagles had in that era was the year AFTER Buddy was fired. Bud Carson took Buddy’s players and improved the unit.

And then Jerome Brown went out for a test drive the following summer and it all fell apart.

Happens far to frequently with a lot of young stars...sad deal. That defense was going to be off the charts, that incident seemed to change the course of that group a great deal mentally nad physically...at least from seeing it from afar, as a fan of another team.

Probably. The Constitution constrains the government, it doesn't affect friends neighbors and customers.

The Constitution is less about constraining and more about empowering.  It definitely affects friends neighbors and customers.

its almost entirely about constraining the govt

Political discussions don't belong here. I'm out.

I am sure a Cougar decal and an Eagle decal would be confusing to many down here...

In Detroit (TX, not MI), which is near where my FIL lives, they get confused because the Eagle background is green not blue.   It’s amazing the number of high school teams out there that flat out use the logo of an NFL team.

Just dawned on me that you were probably referring to Trey Lance with the "hand selected" part of it. Duh, not sure how I missed that. Yeah that was an awful pick, he deserves all the criticism for that one.

Yes.  The #3 overall one I was referring to.

The other day I was thinking about Jerome Brown's legacy with the Eagles. We all love JB but I think he would have been the first out the door when FA hit in 1993. He had the stick it to the man personality and I think he and old Norman would have gone at it leaving to a messy divorce. Instead, Reggie was the ring leader and it was a much more peaceful exit, despite the towns rally's to keep him here. I just wonder, had JB not been killed in an accident and left in 93, would he still have the legacy he does?

It wasn't that tragedy alone, but also the move of the NFL towards free agency... and the scum bum Norman Braman.  The NFLPA needed a high profile player to lead the free agency charge, and no one coming up on the end of his contract compared to Reggie White's profile.  So, he became the lead litigant and when the NFLPA won, he almost had to leave via free agency to legitimize the process... and that coupled with Braman not offering a contract, the stage was set.  He had fired Buddy Ryan the year before, turned it over to the milquetoast Kotite and there was nothing to really keep them united anymore.  So, NFL free agency dismantled that defense.  First Brown's death, then White left via free agency, then Allen, Simmons and Joyner left.   There wasn't much left after that.

Always thought it was cool how the Eagles won their Super Bowl on Jerome Brown’s birthday. Doesn’t get more poetic than that.

Have a Bucee's a mile from my house...and I agree completely with regards to their brisket, a good piece of smoked beef should not need sauce, if it's good the meat will stand on it's own. I am a bit of a smoked meats snob. Primary reason I go to Bucee's is for a really good array of beef jerky flavors (although pricy), lowest prices around on fuel, and lowest prices for domestic beer, which I drink little of these days.

My most recent brisket cook on the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro (has the integrated smoke box for better/more smoke flavor than a typical pellet smoker):

Nice looking bark on that brisket!! To me that and the moistness is the most important part of the brisket.

Here in New Mexico and in Texas they have a chain called Rudy's. Hard to beat their most brisket.  Don't care for their lean brisket which is the flat.  Just too dry for me.  Need to drench it in their sauce which is great BTW.

Been experimenting with smoking on my regular Weber grill.  Works good if you set the coals/smoke packet on one side with the meat on the other.  Brisket gets a good bark without overcooking.  Contrary to public opinion, I like spare ribs better than the baby backs.  They turn out amazing on the Weber.

I find it curious that a lot of analysts are picking the Packers so far, yet the line is still Eagles -2.5

Almost an impossible game to confidently predict.  The Packers were surprisingly good while the Eagles were surprisingly bad at the end of last year.  Packers win in a blowout if they played each other in January 2024.  Eagles win any game against the Packers any time between 2 months and 2 years before that.

It’s really anyone’s guess which reality is real for either team.

Couldn’t agree more.  Week 1 is always a mystery to at least a certain degree.  I don’t remember it being this big of a mystery in quite some time

If I were to rank week 1 games in a confidence pool, the Eagles/Packers would be the the game I’d have as my "1 point game”

He’s a bit before my time.  I watched the Eagles as a little, little kid then…but didn’t have a meaningful opinion on anything.  I do sometimes wonder if the tragedy led to a little overstatement of what kind of player he was.

Brazil just adds to it too.
