IF he was that good he would get more targets. We have seen him in games without AJ and Smitty and he still doesn't thrive. He's a good blocker and decent receiver who is almost 30 and seen a decline in his production the last season plus.  So no, there is no factual evidence to merit an argument for Goedert as one of the best TE's in the league, let alone being elite. He is BARELY top 10 AT BEST.

Also, Hurts was Goedert's QB in 2022 and his YPC, YPG, etc have declined since then so blaming Hurts for him not having elite production is laughable.

Year --- Targets --- average depth of target (yards)

2020 --- 65 --- 8.5

2021 --- 76 --- 8.5

2022 --- 69 --- 6.1

2023 --- 83 --- 5.4

2024 --- 9 --- 3.8

Personally, I'm not "blaming" Hurts. But this is a product of the offense designed primarily around Jalen. In 2020, we had Pederson and Wentz started 11 games. In 2021, Sirianni was the HC and Hurts was the starter. In 2022, we brought in AJ Brown. Once Brown arrived, Goedert was used a lot closer to the QB on average, so his role changed.

So you aren't blaming Hurts, but it's Hurts fault because it's an offense built around him. Bro, stop and think before you post.

If you think his decline is due to his ADOT blame the coaches for picking shorter routes to send him out on, not Hurts. The fact is that Hurts gave him more targets and targets per game in 2023 than he got in 2022 and 2021 and the narrative is that Hurts doesn't target him enough which is why his numbers have declined. That narrative is factually incorrect. His numbers have declined because he is almost 30 and been injured a lot and he isn't the explosive athlete he once was. For example, he used to be beat defenders deep down the seem or turn TE's screens into big plays. Did you ever think his lower ADOT has something to do with not being the down field threat he once was? Either way, it's all a bunch of excuses for a guy who flat out hasn't been good enough going back to last season and blaming Hurts for his decline is a downright lazy stupid take.

Folks, the Eagles are gonna get smoked on Sunday.  I already feel bad for them.

No one in this offense outside of AJ and DeVonta really gets targets in the passing game. I’ve always thought Goedert was a little overrated by most, but I don’t think him being invisible means he’s just completely fallen off. Dotson has two targets through two games. I get he’s still new and probably has to get comfortable, but it’s still a concern from a game-planning standpoint. Covey getting as many looks as he did this past week was weird.

Either way, this offense can’t function fluidly without AJ. It’s apparent that he’s the one who makes it move and him being out is crippling. If you look at stats as far as EPA and DVOA the offense isn’t terrible through two weeks. And Hurts is actually 3rd in EPA against the blitz which is a good improvement off of last year.

But something still seems off and they’re not passing the eye test. Nothing comes easy, Hurts has to play sandlot ball more times than not, and it just feels clunky. And it still feels like they’re playing for 3rd and 4th and 1 for the push play instead of getting chunk plays. That doesn’t feel like a sustainable approach and I think they get blasted against New Orleans who is firing on all cylinders right now. But that has more to do with the defense than the offense.

I'm saying the argument has merit even if I don't agree with it.

If somebody says, "I hate sports cars." Then you have every reason to believe that person hates sports cars. But if that person instead says, "I'm more of a truck guy," then you would be ignorant to assume that means he hates sport cars. My argument with you really has nothing to do with Goedert and everything to do with your assumption and implication that another poster's QB preference has nothing to do with play style and everything to do with what he looks like.

You like to use stats for arguments and I applaud that, because stats are a basis for proof. So If you're going to throw those kinds of accusations around about other fans, then show me posts where they say what you imply they are saying. Don't give us some BS conjecture based on what was never said or what you think you read between the lines. Tangible proof is required to back up your claim or it's nothing but useless BS.

It was a fluky last minute loss but it did give me PTSD of last year with this Defense.  With that said, I think they shock the Saints on Sunday and bounce back.   Sad AJ is out again.  The thing with AJ is he draws some of the most attention on this Offense.  His presence alone changes defenses.

I disagree. There were times he was ranked as the #3 TE around the league and some argued if he was better than Kittle/Andrews. Even entering this season I’ve seen him ranked 5th/6th best in the league.

Not arguing that he hasn’t been good.  I’m just saying that’s about to change.  I think this is the year the cliff comes for him.

The elite status was always crazy.  He was probably close for about 1 year.  But he's always had some bad drops, and of course injuries causing him to miss games.

I think he is probably still as good as ever but our QB doesn't look his way except on screen plays called for him.

But even at 28, he wasn't and isn't giving them nearly enough. Is it the offense? Is it the QB not making reads? TEs are thriving in the NFL and our supposed top 8 TE catches screen passes and 8 yard button hooks when the defense is playing prevent.

Wont matter when your qb cant see the middle

You cant argue logic against emotion. All the "hate” arguments are just childish emotion. He will never grasp he is wrong about Hurts

@mattwill

PHI 20 - NO 35

Bonus - Offensive Turnover

Blocking matters. That's why Dallas Goedert gets ranked highly.

Bah. He was such a good prospect

So far in 2024 through two games, Hurts is again at the bottom of the league in time-to-throw metric at 3.24 seconds.  Jacoby Brissett is 2.99, Deshaun Watson is at 3.01, Anthony Richardson is at 3.10, Kyler Murray is at 3.15

Last season under Moore, Herbert was 2.80 seconds and Easton Stick was 2.82.

In Dallas from 2019 to 2022 with Moore, Dak was 2.88, 2.77, 2.75, and 2.72

Only two games of sample often gives wonky results, but Hurts is normally above 3.0 seconds for his career.  In his best season in 2022, he had it down at 2.76 seconds for the season.

I haven't heard that medical science has found a way to boost the processor speed in human brains like you can with computers. Too bad.

They love using Philly as their farm system. I wonder if they sign Driscoll off the PS

Both my guys, Layne Riggs and Cole Custer, won their NASCAR races and The Illini beat the Huskers in a heckuva game last night! Just need the Eagles to win (long shot) and this will be a great weekend.

(The StL Cardinals eliminated from the playoffs but that was expected)

I think this is a bad matchup for us. 34-16 Saints
