Wow Justin Herbert averaging 133 passing yards/game through 3 weeks

Well Greg Roman is the OC and Harbaugh is his coach.  We should trade Hurts for him.

So... let me get this straight.. Tanner Banks comes out after loading the bases... but Walker gets to stay in letting in 6 runs.   🤦‍♂️

The fact Walker is somehow still on this roster is amazing. The dude is completely useless and just god awful. Just admit your mistake and move on.

Schmoopie and her sister won Diamond club tickets to the game.  They got the notice late, so they didn't make it in until the 5th, so you can't blame our luck for that mess last night.

The most irritating thing about the Phillies is if they just had a competent 5th starter they’d already have a bye wrapped up and likely multiple games ahead of the dodgers. Turnbull’s injury really stung. Then again they probably should’ve made a move for a 5th starter at the deadline. We knew it wasn’t looking good for turnbull on his rehab and that Walker was god awful.

What killed them was Painter's TJ and Abel taking a step back.

They probably thought before the season that Abel would be insurance after the All-Star break.

Next year they'll probably put some veteran in at 5th starter for a month or two and start Painter, Abel, Johnson in AAA ball.

Painter is already hitting 98 in workouts, he's an elite prospect, but they may have him on an innings limit next season.

Is Walker the worst big league pitcher I’ve ever seen? I think so. He can’t even throw batting practice. How is he even here?

$38M left on his contract?

He'll come to spring training, but is a long shot to make the roster, but as I pointed out above, the young pitchers who are a good bet to fill the #5 spot will start at Lehigh unless they're lights out in ST.

So there's a temporary slot for a cheap veteran starter (sunk costs in his case).

I’ve already assumed painter is on an innings count so there’s a chance he starts in the minors for 2 months slowly bringing him along and knocking rust off. Also retain one of his cheap years by not meeting the criteria to count for an accrued year. I’m guessing around middle of June.

issue they also had was i don’t think they believed Walker would be this atrocious. He has a 7 era. First Phillies starter with this many starters to have that since 1930s. He’s been god awful. Abel falling off is a surprise but then again it’s prospects. I think they took a lotto ticket on turnbull and initially it panned out until he got hurt like tends to happen with him. Don’t think moving him from starter to bullpen to starter helped matters.

said on the Phillies board nearing the deadline they should get a 5th starter cause of ranger’s issues, turnbull’s rehab wasn’t going well and walker was basically done.

Suck cost fallacy. Making $18 mil a year and don’t wanna admit the mistake and just move on. Plus turnbull injuries and Abel being bad this year didn’t help

Kind of strange that the team needs to hope the HC doesn't overrule the playcalling because he's been so bad at it. Goes back to the whole "what do you do here" thing

Agreed about RPO needing to go. Something is off. It's just not working

I urge you to look at the clip @wussbasket posted before you dump the rpo. Play calls are not made in isolation.

OK but what are your thoughts on his uniform and jersey number?

To be honest, the Saints uniforms had inconsistencies for the Eagles game. Some players numbers were different colors and the helmets had different shades of gold too, mainly the Vicis helmets, but they are made from a different material so a few colors don't always match.

You asked lol.

White played whatever position on the line he wanted.  not many could do what White could do.  The guy was the best to ever do it.

Yup. I always get a chuckle when I hear recent players being referred to as the "greatest" DL ever. Nope. That was Reggie, and it isn't even close. He was Babe Ruth. He was that amazing. And he was "ours" (though not for as long as he should have been.)

I actually noticed that also - the differences in color on the numbers really stood out.  Solid product the NFL puts out there

I thought was just imagining this during the game. But i was like why does his number look yellow compared to the others that are gold. This has been an issue with fanatics/nike in their retail jerseys with the company they use to embroider. However most teams use their own embroiders so I’m surprised it’s that off

Herbert with this oline, Barkley, AJ, Smith and Goedert.... they would light it up

@mattwill

Eagles 27

Bucs 20

QB1 is ass. Jalen Wentz throws an int for the 8th straight game. Dline gets 3 sacks

Pretty bad.

You don't think Barkley would have the same success without it?

No. Do you?

Big question for this weekend is if Vea and Winfield Jr. are playing

I thought he might still but I'd take your word for it

There’s an old chalk talk of Moore talking play design in the preseason blog that covers similar ground. Most of us, myself included, tend to think of plays in isolation. Belichick famously talks about a game as being three quarters. After that you know everything you need to know. We beat the Saints entirely in the fourth quarter with what Moore learned in the first three. It would have been easier still if Sirianni had stayed at the hotel.

Yes the Eagles have struggled against the Bucs the last few years.  Also we all know Todd Bowles has cooked up some good defenses against Jalen though he has praised him since the Super Bowl.  They did get a win last year but not having AJ did hurt the playoff game.  Their Defense is still good again only giving up 20 PPG.  Baker has look Ok this year but he still has his tendencies. But they still have Evans so we can't take them lightly at all.   We have to see how the injury report pans out but I think we have the guys to get them back from last year.

They are coming off a bad loss and we are coming off an emotional win. I think Saquon and Goedert playing like they have, I'm confident they can turn the tide on Tampa.  The Defense will have to account for them because of how it can get out of hand quick.  They gashed the Saints for 125 yards on two plays.    Yes it's on the road but the Birds actually have played well on the Road the last 2 seasons. Eagles are 8-4 in the last 12 Road Games (9-4 if you count Brazil).

The first 15 plays are designed to see how the defense will match personnel, schemes, etc. That's valuable, valuable info.

We've been better in the 2nd half on offense in all 3 games. A big part of that is coaching.

The Braves seemed to have had the best 5th starter in MLB throughout the 90s. They racked up tons of regular season wins.  Didn't help them at all in the playoffs.  14 consecutive divisions titles and only one World Series victory.
