Agreed, but there are those that think it's Sirianni's offense and has nothing (or very little) to do with Hurts.

Hogwash

There are others that believe that Sirianni and two OC's have cheerfully staked their multimillion dollar jobs on a guy they know can't do the job properly rather than tell Howie what the issue is.

And those people are correct.

What's even the point of having Tom Brady do games?

Both need to go and Howie screwed up again giving him that contract.

Given Howie gave him the contract and we can't move on from it currently, what would the alternative be? Bench him?

FOX hired Brady before they knew he was going to worm his way into an ownership stake .... although they should have had the foresight, because he was worming around the Dolphins franchise for a period of time as well.

Fox should be happy, maybe this will give them a way to work an out.

Brady sucks in the booth. His "A+" effort has been horrendous.

Sirianni took the job on the belief Wentz was the QB (we can debate how smart that move may have been, in hindsight).  Brian Johnson took the job, in part, because he had a long-standing relationship with the Hurts family (which he may actually NOT have divulged during his Eagles interview).  Moore took the job because the Chargers' coaching staff was dismissed with the Harbaugh hire, and the head coaching carousel does not have a seat for him currently.

I give Sirianni a lot of credit for making it work with Hurts.  Almost nobody foresaw Hurts develop into an MVP candidate in 2022; folks are eager to give 100% credit to Steichen, but surely Nick, Shane, and Brian all had some hand in that -- just as Doug, Frank, and John D. all had a hand in Wentz's development.

After 2022 and the Hurts mega contract extension it wouldn't seem a smart career move to tell Howie "I can't work with this QB", and I'm sure the actual truth is more nuanced than that.  I'm sure there are plays Moore wants Hurts to be more comfortable running, but that is always a process with any QB.  The offensive scheme is very likely developed in conjunction with the franchise QB -- I'd be willing to bet Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, Allen, etc. all have input on their team's playbooks.

Hurts doesn't like throwing in the middle. So the coaches have less routes in the middle of the field. So Hurts has less chances to throw in the middle. And it perpetuates.

I think it's as much personnel as anything else, and how they use them.

No receiving 2nd TE, few slants, few 3WR working the middle.

They've got two excellent WRs so they've focused on one on one matchups outside. Same with Goedert.

They've struggled to find a 2TE, 3WR (much less a 4WR) and haven't employed RBs as receivers on a regular basis.

To make those plays work, you not only need the WRs to draw the FS into double coverage outside, you need receivers who can get separation from LBs and SSs or find soft spots in zones over the middle.

I haven't seen Chad Lewis is settling down 10 yards downfield over the middle on a regular basis.

I haven't seen a lot of open receivers over the middle, have you?

It was Chip.  Chip is why they ended TC at Lehigh, why they started to limit access for the beat writers, etc.  He only had 4 plays, so I guess it made sense.

Probably. They ended Eagles Live when Chip was hired. I used to watch that religiously

But given Moore has come from outside the tent and the offense looks like it does the first five games, why not try different things and take the lumps?  If you're OC'ing for a guy who's getting canned at the end of the season if it doesn't work, with a QB who allegedly can't play half your offense, because he apparently went through 2 elite college programs with a congenital inability to throw over the middle or phobia thereof, can't play RPO... or run plays with more than one guy in motion... or run an effective screen play, so why not ride and die with your playbook?  You'd either introduce some variety that keeps the defense off guard and frees up other stuff or expose what the issue is beyond all doubt.

Yup. Total trash

I advise some of you to go back and reread what people had pegged as weaknesses for Hurts coming out of college and come back when you can tell us what isn't still a weakness

I found this one.

Cons

  • Consistent Accuracy
  • Forces Balls Instead Of Taking Easy Gains
  • Locks Onto His Receivers
  • Won’t Make All Progressions
  • Consistent Mechanics

The college completion percentage is a bit misleading from his actual accuracy. There are at times where he sails the ball and his mechanics are not as clean. When he is in a good rhythm he is generally locked in. In the Oklahoma system he had strong receiving options and with his arm strength we saw him force the ball in and take unnecessary risks. This wouldn’t fly at the next level in comparison to facing Big 12 defenses in 2019. Having CeeDee Lamb certainly helped mask some of Hurts flaws at times, and we saw him lock onto Lamb quite a bit and look his way.

This is from nfl.com

Weaknesses

Has issues sustaining rhythm as passer with so many off-schedule throws. Inconsistent patience allowing routes to develop. Slow recognition of early throw opportunities. Leaves slants and crossers behind targets. Misses checkdowns and opts for harder throws. Deep arm dip into elongated release. Forced speedsters at OU and Alabama to slow for deep throws. Needs to get better at trusting his pocket. Quick to drop his eyes when pressure mounts. More likely to void pocket than climb, scan and throw from it.

Bleached report matter miller:

WEAKNESSES

—Doesn’t play with much urgency in the pocket while reading the defense and will have to speed up his process.

—Arm motion is stiff and delayed, but showed improvements at the Senior Bowl and combine.

—Must learn to play from within the pocket; has a Baker Mayfield-like habit of leaving clean pockets early.

—Fumbles a concern on the run and in the pocket.

—Goes through streaks of poor accuracy, largely due to mechanics. Has to learn to trust his arm and rip it more often instead of stopping his motion and analyzing.

Wouldn't consistent accuracy be a good thing?

Would be interesting to compare average height of the right quadrants vs the left. Purdy is the only guy under 6'2 I notice on the right.

This has to get fixed with Hurts though. Constant vertical routes combined with not throwing over the middle - you're basically begging for an inconsistent pass game.

I think Calcaterra could develop into a nice TE - the rumor is that he just needs to get better at blocking at the NFL level.

Stoll is decent at blocking isn't he? I'd also like to see him get more catches tbh

@eagle45 Id be interested in your monday morning QB plan on this McCain injury from last night.

Do you think the breathing issues were caused from the head injury? Or possibly some cervical involvement?

As far as on court management, hes struggling to catch his breath. The 6ers seem to have 4 guys who just assume if the wait there long enough he will calm down and catch his breath. From the looks of him, Id probably be getting him set up with some supplemental oxygen at a minimum but Id probably also make sure someone is ready with an airway adjunct, among other emergency devices should he lose consciousness.

He went to the hospital. No update on him yet.

High cervical injuries can cause respiratory distress due to loss of diaphragm function.  But…you’d have to have major motor deficits, nearly quadriplegia, before you reach the point that diaphragm function is compromised.  So c spine precautions are still reasonable when we don’t know what’s going on, but I’d be surprised in this case.

I suspect this was more some combined concussion/pain response…but not quite as dangerous as it looked.
