The entire organization from Lurie all the way down to the players may be complete idiots.  I still find it hard to believe this is their philosophy.

When they get to 3rd and 8 or something similar, I can't believe they are purposely trying to get 6 or 7 yards just so they can do the shove.

I'd love to see some stats and see how many times the Eagles get to 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2 or less compared to the rest of the league.

If they are purposely trying to get to these situations just to do the shove then they should be much higher than every other team when it comes to being in 3rd or 4th and short.

I think @eagle45 explained their process the best. To your question on stats, I'll just say watch the game thinking about what @eagle45 just wrote. If you watch the game with a simplistic mindset (which is what this whole gameplan relies on) it will become clear as day that getting in to tush push situations is one of their main goals.

I obviously don’t agree with the offensive tush push philosophy…but we all know that defenses do arrange their personnel and zones around the first down marker on 3rd and long.  In these situations, it’s obviously easier to gobble up yards underneath short of the sticks.

The Eagles clearly (maybe not every time, but often) will try to take those underneath yards in hopes of ending up in a 4th and tush push situation rather than trying to get the first by targeting beyond the sticks.  That’s literally what Siri meant when he said 1st and 9.

Is he coming up to the time when he would no longer get credit for the 2024 season if he didn't play?

I think so. I think if you hold out more than 6 games, you lose an accrued season.

Reddick has all punishment for not honoring his contract waived so throw a fit and get what you want!

He didn't get what he wanted - a new contract. I've read there are adjustments to his current contract but I haven't seen what those adjustments are. He did lose 5 game checks. OTOH he did get his fines forgiven so I guess that's something.

Huff had a 5 game head start on Reddick and is only 0.5 sacks ahead. What a joke, Howie.

Are we actually surprised?

This is where I'm at. I don't really believe they purposely fall short of getting a 1st down, just to run a play that will get a 1st down. I do think it's obvious they take great comfort knowing that play is in their back pocket, hence their thinking that each set of downs is 1st and 9. As for throwing short of the sticks, that's something that's something that's happened for many years, long before the tush push.

I actually am. If I put odds before the season that Huff would have under one sack by week 6, don't think anyone here would have taken those odds.

They aren’t purposefully not getting first downs. Their rationale is that getting 6.5 yards on 3rd and 8 is a higher % play than an 8+ yard pass.  So they funnel themselves into 4th down tush pushes.

Still would have rather we just paid him what he wanted instead of Huff

I am.  Thought he'd do better.  But I also am beginning to believe Fangio coaches to his scheme rather than his players talents.

Good for Carter.  A diminished Slay isn't encouraging, much like a healthy Slay.

I'm not surprised Howie picked a dud

And you guys say Sirianni doesn’t do anything. He clearly coaches players how to pander.

Figure Giants game plan is to crowd line of scrimmage and make Hurts beat them.  Will need a lot of short passes getting ball out quickly.   Should open up run game later.  Eagles D will need to stop QB from running, yes that’s right.  He has burned D multiple times in key downs.  Hopefully pass rush shows up too.
