I mean a SHORAD emplacement would be cheaper long run, but using Apaches to do this kinda fills a bit of a gap between an F-15E carrying a ton of APKWS pods and SHORAD.

Not exactly going to cover a lot of ground, but if point defenses are kinda clustered into a close-ish area then it would be great, plus at this point I'd imagine an Apache can't have that high of a unit cost.

If you can move the point defense out to a spot where the drones are clustered before spreading out (ala the YouTube video of 21 U.S. Tomahawks passing over the same place within minutes of each other LINK), it becomes way more effective. The APKWS can provide that capability.
