It's legitimately hysterical how the MAGA idiots can be fooled into thinking Biden is guilty of everything Trump has ACTUALLY done. Profiting off the Presidency? Trump has done that, not Biden. Serious cognitive decline? Trump is winning the dementia Olympics. Inappropriate behavior with minors? Only one of them is in the Epstein files, and it isn't Biden.

That's why I find all of the back and forth between @DrPhilly and @VanHammersly about how to beat Trump, and potentially reach his voters, to be hysterical. Guys - the primary issue is the electorate is retarded. MAGA morons will never abandon dear leader, and left wing loons will fight each other over purity tests. We are doomed to swing back and forth between extremes until the country breaks. Just make as much $$ as you can and have as much fun as you can.

To be clear, my position is that you absolutely cannot and never will reach his voters and it's the definition of insanity to even try. They should be mocked and derided, at least there's some fun in that. The left will absolutely fight over purity tests, they'll sit around arguing about the arrangement of the Titanic deck chairs, but a left-wing populist could still keep their coalition together. Traditional Dem candidates have and they're basically conservatives in the current political environment.

Assuming there's an election in '28, I just want to see a Dem candidate that plays their populist hand and works the media environment like Reps do, because a Dem president is basically the only chance we have for at least extending things a little longer.

As for having fun as long as you can, I'm curious what you think the end looks like? What do you see happening when the music stops?

Exactly plus it isn’t going to be all that friendly out there for Americans as we move forward.

Also, Trump isn’t on the ballot again.

He'll likely be in the ground, but it's sort of irrelevant. Whoever takes the reigns will have no choice but to adopt the authoritarian approach. It's what Republicans want.

Yeah well that’s an entirely different scenario.

Well, I am hoping the end comes after I'm gone, but...

Empires don't usually just collapse in one seismic event -- it's simply a gradual decline, one that is underway and being accelerated by basically everything Trump does. The question is when the pendulum swings back, what do we get from the left -- another Biden type likely means the decline slows, but an AOC type just accelerates the internal collapse. But the end game is the waning of US hegemony, the rise of autocrats and dictators, and the end of what has basically been Pax Americana since 1945. As US dominance fades, the odds of global conflict will rapidly rise.

The real issue for the US and its citizens will be the fall of the US Dollar -- US borrowing rates will be forced higher, imports will cost more as the dollar devalues, and the standard of living will decline substantially.

Yes. I’m still too USD heavy. Need to fix that ASAP.

You're rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It's not like any other currency will fare better. Best to be in assets like real estate.

Yeah I’m going to buy physical assets with the dollars I still have.

My parents are getting older and were talking about liquidating their assets so they could divide the money evenly between their kids once they pass. They're super obsessive about making sure everything is even and fair like a lot of older folks I guess. Shares in some commercial builds and 2 small commercial properties. It's taking a lot of convincing to tell them to keep the assets and we'll just divide the dividends.

If they liquidate and give it to you, it will all be treated as income, and the government will royally F you. Just something to keep in mind.

There are ways around it to some extent, but yes one of many reasons we're trying to convince them to just keep it. The biggest one though is just trusting a lot more in real estate than the USD right now.

Dude - never sell the assets. When they are passed down, the basis steps up automatically. Huge tax savings.

I don't mean to be morbid, but look at the rules in your state as well. When my father in law passed, he and my mother in law owned an investment property (single family home they rented out). When he passed and my MIL got 100% ownership, under CA law, her basis stepped up to current market. So she sold it a few months later and had no capital gains on it.

Problem with a Biden type is that it doesn't work anymore. There's no turning Republicans back into normal, sane people, so a President that follows the rules will only be punished for his perceived ineffectiveness and then we're right back to where we are now with a Republican in charge who's goal is to punish the left and consolidate power. At some point, Dems need to stop being the adults in the room and realize that we're in realpolitik territory and you just need to take care of yours.

I’ve seen too many estate issues to cause people to get nasty. Your parents are right to try to keep it as even as possible.

Also, Greenskeeper thinks this post is funny. Does that make you rethink your positions? After all, he's in lawn maintenance.

We had some issues when my parents passed with me in Sweden where they don’t recognize a trust. We had to take some extra steps to avoid me paying a ridiculous progressive income tax and my brother in CT ended up with a state tax issue. I compensated him to take care of it. Always some detail to deal with and the states differ a good bit.

Funny enough, I was on the phone with my guys at JPM this morning and we were joking about this. It's complete and utter BS, but...expect JPM to settle for some amount just to get it behind them. Dimon's public comments about Trump have caused a pullback in the stock of ~10%. There's just no upside in fighting this when you have a POTUS that is more than willing to use regulators to punish his personal enemies.

In a world where the Executive Branch has no concept of decency, everyone is susceptible to a shakedown. It's like paying the mob - yeah, you wish people would stand up, but the power dynamics make it impossible.
