Have you forgotten that the Eagles played their scrubs in the season finale that year? I guess it would have been smarter to have guys like Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery (and about a dozen other key guys) playing in that game and risking an injury that could have derailed everything.

who was going for any records in that moment? Why would that make any sense that year?

Chance of injury and being sidelines for the playoffs vs a personal record...there's 0 reason for risking a SB run...saquom is def on board with this he wants to win

You are right.  I thought he was on the 1999 team.  He was not.

Also four out of the five were one and done.

That is too bad.  He has been very solid as the #2 TE.  However, since Goedert is returning from IR the net effect is a plus.

We’ll get the passing record next year

I got curious and looked it up. Hurts hasn't even topped 250th all time which begins at 3,965yds

Wentz is at 214th

PG having a good game and of course he gets hurt. Hopefully he comes back in

Drinking tequila after a day of whiskey.

I'm good, right?

That is what happens after UGA game gets cancelled because of stupid terrorists.

Sixers blowing a 9 point lead in less than 3 mins and not scoring the last 3.5 mins of the game. Impressive.

That is such a hyperbolic utilization of making history.

lol ok

I said the story alone was great - I didn’t say that’s the reason they were making history or the reason to make history - pay attention.

You know, there were so many fun story lines that we witnessed along the way that year. We just so happened to live in the dumb times of "Dilly Dilly", which became "Philly Philly". They put it in an ad. We named a legendary play after it. And they donated a sculpture. The "hungry dogs run faster" line that became a slogan of "Stoutland University" which is now a big fund raising initiative to help with Luries autism efforts. Carson Wentz on track to win MVP. Nick Foles becoming BDN. The media narratives. Under dogs, dog masks. Stupid Mike Lombardi adding fuel to the fire that ignited Kelces legendary speech. Kelce's mummer outfit.

And so much more.

We didnt just enjoy that season because the guys lined up and played football, and played it safe.

We enjoyed it so much more, and there were SO many more stories to tell at the parade because of all of the other stuff that helped make the story so special along the way.

You know one MAJOR story that will be missing from this season? Barkley breaking the rushing record. Damn shame.

Boom! Exactly

The irony is that the same people that say the record is meaningless and this is a meaningless game are the same ones buying and wearing NFC East division champs shirts and hats - talk about meaningless? lolololol

This division championship will be forgotten by next season - while the record, on the other hand, is basically timeless.

Bama lost to a Michigan team without a QB and top 4 defensive players sitting out. Bama played Milroe

So no

You missed the sarcasm.

You are telling the story of World War II.  Those stories have meaning because we won the war.  They would lose their societal gravitas if we had lost the war.  The winner gets to write the history.

With that said, the Saquon story exists, and will continue to exist.  That story isn’t being erased.  And it has more chapters to come.

About 10 years ago on the old EMB during the off season we had a "Best Movies of All Time” thread where about a dozen of us @greend @frenchladyfan @nocturnal @djbigf among them.  One of the intense arguments we had was over Goodfellas.  I believed it should have had a different ending than djbigf felt it should have.  He wanted it to be true to what happened in real life.  I wanted the Henry Hill character, played by Ray Liotta, to be a mensch and stick to the mafia code and not sing to the cops.  The truth was/is that the movie would have been great with either ending.  This season will be great, and the Saquon story will be great regardless of whether he plays on Sunday or doesn’t.

Makes me glad I didn’t go to the game.  The side story fell short of the mark.

Actually the Eagles division championship of the NFC East has been talked about more than any other division championship.  It has perpetuated and extended an all time NFL record.  One for the books.

And the talking heads will still be talking about it one year from now … guaranteed.

lol no one will

The only thing they will talk about is if another team will win it continuing "the streak” - which is anything but some sort of "all time record”

You should know better.

Hasn’t Calcaterra been the #2 TE?

They risked it every week. I simply don't agree it's an either or decision 🤷‍♂️

You do understand....that EVERY WEEK they were playing for the #1 seed and last week THEY NEEDED to win to lock in the #2 seed.  Whether they win or lose against the Giants, it has ZERO impact on their seeding. If the Eagles still had a shot at the #1 seed, I can almost guarantee that everyone would be playing.  But in a completely meaningless game, you do not risk it.

I think with the Saquon stuff the focus is on injuries too much. I don’t think that’s the main reason for the decision. I think the main reason is the rest. Teams play hard for the #1 seed all year because it is HFA and a bye week. Well we get a chance to have a bye week by resting guys.

7 hours ago, HazletonEagle said:

Its kind of impossible to talk about this record being broken and still try to call the game meaningless. On the other hand you are scared of injury before the super bowl, but you know Kirby Joseph lurks in the future, before the super bowl.

It just doesnt add up logically.  Combined with the continuous use of the false dilemma falacy people keep using by saying they can go for the rushing record OR the super bowl, it just continues to prove that the foundation for the side of the argument you are on is built on flawed logic.

So you're comparing a meaningless week 18 game that has NO impact on seeding vs. an NFCCG......that's an interesting analogy.  Thank god some of you morons have nothing to do with the decisions the Eagles make.
