Milton Williams is finally the player they thought he'd be. I don't think they let him walk.

They had Fletcher Cox and Timmy Jernigan and still signed Malik Jackson.

Then they had Cox and Jackson and signed Javon Hargrave.

The Eagles will spend at DT.

All Jim Scwartz schemes that absolutely needed strong interior lines. Fangio prioritizes LB. If it comes down to one or the other, I think it will be Baun over Williams.

When you watch the film breakdowns of the Eagles DL play throughout the year you see Carter freeing up the other guys time and again.  Fangio knows that Carter will be double teamed on 90% of the plays and schemes Carter's movement in order to create a mismatch with space for the other guys.  No one benefits from that more than Williams.  I'm not saying he isn't a good player but I do think Williams' effectiveness is getting a big lift from the play of Carter.  Williams will be an overpriced player and Howie doesn't overpay.

In my mind, Howie signs Baun/Becton and then uses the draft to find a Sweat replacement and will either go mid round for a DT or will look to add a decent DT via FA.

Correct.  A long time ago we had a similar situation with DEs.  The Eagles had a once in a lifetime DE on one side, in Reggie White... and the other guy was a 9th round draft pick named Clyde Simmons.  Simmons was a very good DE, but he really benefited from White (and also Jerome Brown in the middle).   Simmons had a year with 19 sacks (White's last with the Eagles), another with 13, and one with 15.5 all while playing opposite White.  In the 8 years after White left (7 with other teams) he cracked double digits only 1 time with 11 sacks.   In the 6 years (not counting the cameo he did with Carolina) White had after he left, he hit double digit sacks 4 times, including his final year before retiring with 16.

You don't pay Batman money to Robin.  That's what the Eagles did with Byron Maxwell... that's what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did with Alvin Harper.

The exception would be on the OL... and why Becton becomes a priority over Williams.   We've seen how a single weak link on the OL can completely derail an offense.  We saw it with Winston Justice at LT back in the day, we saw it with Jamon Brown at LG.  The OL can't really cover up a weak link, but a DL can.  And moreover, a dominant OL doesn't do a ton to help his teammates dominate... but a truly dominant DL absolutely does make the players around him better as the offense has to put all their attention on him.

He cracked a top 5 offense with David Patten and David Givens as the top 2 receiving targets.  He did with Brady who was not the superstar QB he was in his later career.  He had a top 5 offense with Neal O'Donnell as the QB.  He had better than aveearage offenses for 7 out of 10 seasons.  His name only has one s.

If you're referring to the '98 season, that was Testaverde. And the '04 Pats also had Deion Branch at WR, plus Corey Dillon at RB and Daniel Graham at TE, not to mention one of the league's best OL. Not exactly a team devoid of offensive talent. Plus I'm sure all the cheating helped somewhat.

They could go back to Robert Saleh

Dline was a beast with Schwartz but man the secondary was frustrating

I think Howie will extend Baun too. Finally have a LB

I was curious, so I followed up on this.  Below are the HOF quarterbacks on the teams that were around when the Super Bowl started (some have more than one).  All but three franchises, Philly, Giants, and Cardinals, have a HOF QB.  Eli will be there soon for the Giants and I could count Paddy Driscoll from the 1920's for the Cardinals.

These are generally the best QBs in their respective franchise's histories.  Will Hurts ever really belong with these names?

I put Staubach ahead of Aikman for Dallas.  Unitas is an alternative to Manning for the Colts, but Manning is probably the right choice.  Same issue with Green Bay ... Starr vs. Favre.  YA Tittle is the Giants' best.

So Hurts returned to practice today. That means he is no longer in the protocol.

Eagles injury update: Jalen Hurts returning to practice ahead of playoffs

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will return to practice on Wednesday as the Eagles prepare to host the Packers in the wild card round.

The non-traditional method the Eagles are currently using is with a QB where they intentionally choose to use him as a running threat by design.  That's not a tried and true method.  It's not quite as out of the box as the Buddy Ryan plan of 'Randall will just make 5 big plays, and we'll win', but it's not the norm.

Two time and possibly three time MVP Lamar Jackson might disagree.  In fact, the two leading QBs in the MVP this year might disagree with that.  Frankly, the  "traditional” way came about because of a fear of injury to QBs from running.  Designed runs for the QB have been part of just about every type of college offense design for the entire 6+ decades that I have been watching football.

new mock by these guys.

And when you get to the board at the eagles pick in this scenario, you have another georgia defender who happens to play edge, 6'5'' 265lb Mykel Williams.

But it also makes me wonder if we are a team so well built that we have the luxury of taking Omarion Hampton in that spot, and have a very dynamic, RB2 who can easily be a RB1 on a lot of teams as a rookie.

They gave the eagles Walter Nolen, DT from Ole Miss which is an interesting idea too. It replaces Milton Williams.

This feels like a draft where the Eagles trade down from the first.  If the Browns take Travis Hunter, maybe they want to trade up into the first for Carson Beck, Ewers or Dart.  They have 2 third round picks and pick 33.  Maybe the Eagles swap their 1st and 5th for the Browns 2nd and 2 6th round picks.

Is Hurts practicing?

Or just draft a DL early to replace Williams.

EDIT:  That is the process.  Let Williams walk, get comp pick credit, draft the next guy.

Exactly.

If he’s getting anywhere near $25M per year, just take the 3rd round comp pick.

I would also add, DL is one of the easier positions to develop due to the necessity of a rotation. You can actually draft a plus athlete and then progressively get him more snaps without the liability you would experience at, say, DB or OL.

If you see him as a gadget guy, maybe there is room for him. RB/WR who can be used on trick plays as a passer type of deal.

But I wouldn’t want to go into next season with a depth chart of Barkley, Gainwell, Shipley and Dailey.

Gainwell isn’t good enough to carry this offense, Shipley hasn’t proven he can be a playmaker, and by your own account Dailey isn’t a RB1.

We need to get a blue chipper in here so our offense is viable without Barkley.

It isn't gadget.  Edelman was anything but a gadget player.  It is (1) change of pace at RB, (2) occasional relief snaps for RB1, and an incredibly proficient nose for the end zone.  Although I wouldn't think of RB2/3 as a "leader" of any team, his contribution to culture can't be underestimated.

If he gets $25m/yr, Carter’s gonna get $80m.

Williams is a really good player, but he’s a hell of a lot more replaceable than Baun.

He's still in the protocol. He just advanced to the next phase. To fully clear the protocol he has to have a Full Practice and have no symptoms the next day.

Carter, Davis, Ojomo, Booker + a draft pick works nicely. I am excited to see Ojomo get more snaps and develop.

I didn't say it was devoid of talent.  I just think you are overstating Ben Johnson's impact.  He is coaching a very talented offense with elite skill players and elite o-line.  He may be a historic talent at OC.  Mike Martz had 3 seasons of the number 1 scoring offense in the NFL.  He wasn't that great when he didn't have the talent.

You could even get a mid to low FA like Javon Kinlaw for a year

Meanwhile, we got Carter + Nolan + Q in the 1st round the last 2 years.
