EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Today begins Barkley's quest to break John Riggins' single post season rushing record of 610 yards. Considering we have the wild card game and he may have 4 games to do it, He will need to average 152.5 yards per game to tie. Thats higher than his regular season average, but if we dont end up resting him in blowouts, conceivably we may see him boost that average.

The better record is Terrelle’s regular season + postseason rushing mark. I think he’s only ~480 yards away from that

QB draw

Probably have to hit a couple of passes and get a couple first downs before that play comes out but I'm sure we will see it a few times today.

ALMOST TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT IN OUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!! ROUND ONE, LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saquon would need 195 to break Wilbert's post season single game Eagles rushing record.  Tall order but who knows.

So Campbell has been elevated to the active roster. Any risk Smith or AJ are going to miss the game? Or just a precaution because both are hurt coming in to the game.

My guess … and it’s only a guess … is the latter.  The 49ers learned the hard way how devastating in-game injuries can be.  Howie and Nick and Kellen are too smart to make the same mistake.  I also think they will use Campbell a lot if the score gets to be a rout in the second half … giving Devonta and AJ a rest.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we come out with some quick slants to open the game.  Maybe a couple RPOs as well.  Get Hurts involved right away.

Eagles need to be balanced today with GB being 7th against the run and 15th against the pass, stay out of 3rd and long, pound the rock as much as possible...offensively there aren't any concerns I would have going into the game, Defensively just have to keep on improving that pass rush and make Love uncomfortable. Get that home field crowd ignited early, should be a good game.

When do the teams post the full list of inactives, assuming it hasn’t been done already?

90 minutes before kickoff

My go to prep music for a playoff game

By far my biggest concern with today's game.  I wonder if Eagles will even attempt a field goal over 40 yards or just go for on 4th every time if they find themselves in that situation. What would be the longest distance they would even trust Jake in an end game situation instead of going for it on 4th?  I hope we don't find ourselves in that situation to find out.

Why ya goin to the airport?  Flyin somewhere?

I fly occasionally without going to the airport 😉, or on the way to the airport, these are the best flights btw, I also go to the airport occasionally and don't fly.  But yes, getting out of this winter weather for the week, even it's for work, as long as the fires stay north of San Diego I'm good. Thanks for asking 😁

I kind of hope not. All of our slow starts have been because of this. We try to force throws to "get the pass game going” and "get an early lead.” Instead it always ends with 3 and outs.

This is the second worst run defense vs 11 personnel in the NFL and we are the best in the NFL running against it.

Slam our strength vs their weakness from the start, and continue it all day. Heck, I wouldn’t call a single pass play until our first 3rd and long. I don’t think they can stop 4 run plays in a row.

Lmao, Jalen Hurts has an absolutely massive amount more of i.pact on winning than a safety.

Of course a QB has more impact than a Safety.  However, the impact is a zero sum game for every position that you elevate above the 4% the other 24 positions (in aggregate) have to move an equal amount below 4%.

The question I posed to you was to volunteer what your 25 positional values are.  How much below 4% do you move some positions?  How much above 4% do you move others?

BTW you didn’t answer the White vs. Hurts question or the Dawkins vs. Hurts question.

Oh I’m fun. I was trying to start an E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles chant and you made a fart joke at my expense. I’m truly hurt. Friendly fire man…

The QB position has by far the largest impact on winning and losing than any other position in the sport.  Hurts 100% over White and Dawkins when it comes to impact on a team winning.

I truly hope you understood the Dumb and Dumber reference.  If not, I’m not sure if we’ll be able to continue this friendly banter.

I'm not talking about forcing anything more than just a couple quick throws early.  Two or three in the first four or five plays but beyond that yeah, slam Saquon all day long and mix in some Hurts carries.

Can anyone make a list of changes to sports over the last decade or two that have actually benefitted the game and given the fans something they want? The only thing I can think of is the two helmet rule and even that has silly guidelines to follow and it doesn't effect how the game is played.

If we end up losing Becton, I'm looking at Jonah Savaiinaea as a potential pick at the back end of the first. Not that I want to lose Becton, I'd prefer to extend him and use our 1st on d-line. But with cap restraints plus other players needing extensions, I'm unsure on what we do.

Enter Jonah. I could see a very similar path to what Cam Jurgens took. Insert him at RG immediately and take over RT once Johnson decides to hang them up. Plus he already has experience at both RG and RT. Seems like he could be a very good fit. Has the IQ, size, strength, athleticism that Stout likes. He needs some coaching on technique to get the best out of him, but who better to do that than Stout.

It does look like he could benefit from Stoutland’s tutelage …

"Jonah Savaiinaea's profile highlights his strengths as a pass protector, with his massive frame, quick feet, and football IQ standing out. His balance and hand technique are exceptional in pass sets, making him tough to beat in one-on-one matchups. However, his run blocking needs work, particularly in lateral quickness and consistent hand placement, which can leave him vulnerable against quicker defenders.

His versatility, having played both guard and tackle, enhances his draft stock. Savaiinaea displays strong awareness in handling stunts and blitzes, and his ability to anchor against bull rushers is impressive. While he occasionally overextends and shows heavy feet, these are areas that can be refined with pro-level coaching.”

NFL Network just went over a new rule for these playoffs I was unaware of for OT.  Even if the first team scores a TD then the other team will still get the ball.

Not a new rule. It’s been in place for three years.
