EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

The play the fans are most irate about today i.e. the safety, literally saved the game for your Birds. Flipped the field. I was good with it, as soon as it happened. Didnt get flummoxed. But this game is forgotten. Already! Time to bludgeon the Deadskins into oblivion.

Hurts isn’t as bad as he’s being painted right now…but he’s also nothing more than an average NFL QB.  Despite what I’m seeing a lot of, the Eagles won with him today, not in spite of him.  It wasn’t pretty for sure…but today we saw an all time classic football game.  He needs to step up big next week.

too kind. wrong on 2 points. Hurts is not quite average. And they won in spite of him.

Look, I did a lot of Hurts complaining today.  This isn’t a good blueprint.  This isn’t how you’d draw it up.  We all want the HOF qb and dynamic pass attack.  Short of that, we all want a really good qb.

But those things don’t really matter at this point.  The "running teams don’t win” and "mediocre QBs cant win” don’t have to apply.  Typically, no, they don’t.

They just need to win 2 games.  The first of which is against an overachieving 6th seed.  The second will be against a very good team, but not a juggernaut.

They can go 2-0 in that stretch as a running team that isn’t great throwing the ball.  Again, when you are back at square 1, I’d say it’s a bad idea to do it this way.  But now, all they need to do is go 2-0 in a pair of winnable games.

Just want to reiterate the appalling nature of this statistic.  Thrash and Pinkston were the Eagles starting WRs for three playoff games for the Eagles in 2001, two in 2002, and two in 2003.  We know their story.

The AJ Brown / Smith duo, through 2 playoff games in the 2024 playoffs, has been less productive than Thrash and Pinkston were in any 2 game stretch of their playoff appearances…and it’s not close.

This is absolutely pathetic. Figures though, I'm not even surprised.

He almost out dueled Mahomes in a SB 2 years ago…last year was last year.  This year, he’s shown he should have competition for his job.  "Years” is a stretch…I’m often painted as one of his biggest haters, but at times it’s ridiculous.  Today, in a vacuum, he gets a pass.  As I said, this was an all time classic football game.

Youre trying too hard to place yourself in "the middle" which is not the same as aligning with the truth.

Sure would be nice to be up 8 instead 6 right now.

Because of the two missed extra points.

Then shouldn’t you original post have read, "Sure would be nice to be up 10 instead 6 right now.”

This game with the extreme weather is really an outlier. I do think they were on the verge to having an improved passing attack today in the 1st half. Game changed with the crappy weather and injury. It is what is. They survived.

Bills' D is why I'm ok with them getting through to the SB.

We will absolutely handle either AFC team even with the way the offense (Hurts) has been playing. Just have to boost the performance level slightly next week to get that opportunity.

Hurts threw two dimes on deep passes today and neither was caught.  Smitty I’ll give a pass cause he got a helmet to helmet.  AJ straight up dropped his.

Hospital ball to Smith, accidental back shoulder to AJ, and the near INT in to double coverage in the end zone to AJ. Scary deep passing game.

I do have to say I was happy he at least attempted throwing it down field a few times today. We do need that.

Most of his turn over issues have been fumbles. And most of his INTs have NOT come on the deep balls to AJ Brown. No reason that should have disappeared from the offense for so long.

We saw how many big plays Washington gave up in the passing game this week. Hurts number of passing attempts should still be limited, but I hope they throw even more deep shots next week.

Not to go all RTK, but there were at least a few times where guys came in with very little resistance. The sacks weren't all on doofus holding the ball too long.

guess who is calling protections now with Kelce gone....

Maybe I’m crazy, but I think I’d be perfectly fine letting Rodgers and Ringo battle for a starting spot opposite of Q next year. Rodgers wasn’t nearly as bad as people made it seem during the game.

from my seat, he had a great game.

The Chiefs are a Juggernaut. 2 straight super bowls, a third a year before those, arguably the greatest talent to ever play QB, Andy Reid is a top 5 all time coach, great OL, good defense, arguably the greatest TE in history, and the best refs in the business.

Total juggernaut.

We are going to have to get VERY lucky to beat them. Even without the refs they’re tough. With the refs they’re almost unbeatable.

Mckee would have made it a blowout

If he had god grip on the ball it probably wouldn't be close.

Foles SB performance might have been one of the single greatest QB performances of any game.  He made 3 or 4 throws that game that most QB’s make once or twice in their career.

He basically channeled the spirit of the theoretical best QB to ever live for 1-2 games, against quite possibly the best QB to ever actually live, on a night when the defense only made one play it felt like all game. There's just not much beating that.

He’s definitely earned a starting end job next year. Need to add a high rookie to the rotation though.

It is a really good Draft year for Edge rushers.

This offense is not gonna get solved this year. For many reasons. Right now, AJ is hampered. Probably needs surgery in post season, if I had to guess. He's more of a decoy right now. Gotta use him in the slant game and middle of field to get him some touches. Goedert needs to get the ball in his hands for more YAC action. Take shots downfield with Devanta and Dotson at this point just to keep defenses honest.

Definitely have plenty to work with here to get points. Won't be a juggernaut, as we all envisioned. But the ace in the hole and ultimate cheat code is Saquon, which should make you sleep better tonight. Gonna have to grind it out and win ugly. Chiefs & Bills win plenty of ugly games. These are good teams we are facing here that have some grit and are not just gonna lay down for us. Like these 1st two games. And Redskins are dangerous as well.

Eagles played their B game both weeks and still won. Keeps me positive that we are only going up from here when we start to get our stuff together. Hopefully...

One thing I will say is that Jayden Daniels goes through his progressions like a 5-year vet. I was a bit envious watching him last night. WR3 is a complete waste here and he shouldn't be.

Literally better at it year 1 than Hurts in year 5, it's so pathetic.

Oh God...Jason Witten has won two straight state titles in the TAPPS (private school division, high school here in Texas) as their HC. Jerry actually interviewed him for the HC position...God help me.

Tough guy, though.  One of my favorite Dallas players.

Oh mine as well, probably the best TE in DAL history. Just no HC experience, or next level coaching experience at all. Supposedly Jerry wanted him to be groomed by McCarthy, but McCarthy decided to just move on instead. Jerry looking to find that next Dan Campbell.

Watch the Chiefs on a weekly basis. I will be shocked if they 3-peat. I think their season ends next week. That offensive line is not playing well. Running backs lack explosion. Hopkins is close to done. The rookie WR Worthy is actually their number 1 right now. They have little depth there. Kelce has lost a few steps but still is clutch at key times in games. Just not dominant. They have  to play pretty perfect football to win these next 2 games. Don't think they do it.

This year's cast is the worst of their last 3 editions. Still have a Superbowl worthy defense and Spagnolo/Reid that makes them tough. And of course  with the refs and the lucky breaks they get weekly anything is possible.

If we had Daniels at QB we would average 45 points per game and our TOP would be even higher. We’d be undefeated too.

Daniels is line 3 tiers above Hurts based on this season.

Last time we played the rams, Graham was having a massive game. Dean also had a big game. We had neither of them today, AND lost Mitchell. Defense was still dominant.

Stafford is now 1-9 I guess, in snow games. But he was on the money. There were a bunch of balls that hit his WRs in the chest and they dropped them. The snow and cold definitely got to them, and you could see it happening right when the snow finally started getting heavy.

The defense was really good all game. But man did they crank it up in the 2nd half with the sacks, and the fumble recovery that nearly scored.

Burks seemed to play well. But the loss of Dean seemed to be felt a little bit by the run D. Kyren Williams had a little more room to run than youd like.

The hurts runs that worked in the 1st quarter looked like read options. Defense was so keyed on Barkley, Hurts had room. And it also helped open things for Barkley. Even before Hurts got his knee twisted like a pretzel, they got away from those Hurts runs, and just keep calling straight handoffs to Barkley. With absolutely no threat of a passing game, Barkley had no room to run for a large chunk of the game.

Moore is fine and WRs are open all over the place in this offense.

Corey Clement appeared twice, and Dawkins came out of the tunnel to hype everyone up at one point as well.
