Might have made the most sense for Johnson; terrible decision by the Bears .... again.

Why?  Lions offense has been one of the best in the league.

As far as I know, they didn't. They blamed Becton.

The whole discussion started because @ManuManu saw someone out on the interwebs blaming Goedert for going past the LOS before the catch. So he asked for a rule clarification.

Turns out it was always a penalty anyway and Goedert was never even passed the LOS to begin with.

Ben Johnson is a great offensive mind. Don't get head coach vibes from him, but we'll see, maybe he's just a dork coach.

That's the knock on him. But if he's a truly genius, it'll overcome a lot.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has a Mike McDaniel arc where he has pretty immediate success and then slowly loses the team along the way

No Moore?

If he can’t run what’s the point of having him out there? He can’t throw so how we going to move the ball? His only valuable asset is his legs and keeping the defense honest as a runner in the PA read offense. If he can’t run, we ain’t winning with his arm. lol

If he can't run next Sunday then it is debatable as to what to do.  I have a hard time seeing any one else starting but I REALLY don't like the idea of Hurts if he can't run.

Becton is a mile passed the LOS. That’s the flag

Oh for sure it just was sounding like it may not have been a penalty if the pass didn't go past the LOS but I guess it's just if it's a forward pass.

Moore seems like he'll go to Dallas if anywhere. He's reportedly the frontrunner and there has been smoke all weekend about it.

Cowboys only have interviewed Moore, Robert Saleh and supposedly Leslie Frazier today. Sure feels like they aren't doing a wide search and getting the Rooney Rule out of the way.

not at all. if he is still here next year its easy to argue that the team undersands it looks how it looks because of Hurts, and theyre happy with the couple of added wrinkles Moore has been able to add. And they may be hoping for more with a 2nd year here.

A 2nd year for Moore doesnt implicate him for anything this year at all. BUT you can judge him going forward if we dont see any improvement with another year working with Hurts.

Hurts had better numbers, as did both Brown and Smith, prior to Moore.   Hurts has regressed under Moore.  Under Steichen, Hurts was amazing.  Let's recall the 2022 Hurts MVP caliber season: 15 games, 3701 passing yards, 22 TD, 6 INT, 760 yards rushing, 13 TD.

Moore had everybody's favorite last season in San Diego.  Herbert under Moore: 3137 passing yards, 20 TD, 7 INT. (That stat line looks familiar).

BTW, Herbert's other 4 seasons without Moore: 4331- 31/10; 5014, 38/15; 4739- 25/10; 3870 - 23/10.

Moore ain't special.

Didn’t they do the Rooney rule with Deion?

If Notre Dame wins tonight, their coach is going to get NFL HC offers. He may even if they lose.

I get that, but when you see "given the conditions" time and time again, it's already a built in excuse to expect less. Why should our expectations for Hurts be so low? I want him to be great. He's shown he can be great. I don't like this kind of QB play. I don't like taking absolutely terrible sacks. It's not a new thing. How many games have there been where Hurts slides in to a sack. Just get rid of the ball. Throw it away...better yet, throw it to the guys who are wide open that we all can see.

I don't want to settle for a game manager at QB. I don't want to have a $250 million QB where the bar we've set is just don't turn the ball over.

If just don't turn the ball over is the expectation, trade Hurts, save money and put in Tanner McKee. Tanner, just don't turn the ball over. Let's use the $250 million on Baun, Williams, Becton, Sweat and extensions for Jurgens, Blankenship etc.

Sorry, I'm not ranting at you, I'm just voicing what I want from a QB. What we are getting out of Jalen Hurts is not what I and many others want. I doubt it's what Lurie and Howie want either.

This nails it. Not everyone complaining about Hurts hates him.

We want himt to be better because he does have that talent, has shown before he can perform at a higher level, he is being paid like he should be performing better, and we think that to win the SB he will need to perform at a higher level. And no its not about throwing for 300 or even 250 yards every game - just eliminate the negative plays in critical situations (sacks) and leave less plays out there on the field. Would just make the whole machine so much more effective.

The 2022 version of Jalen Hurts with Barkley and this team and with the way the D is playing would have blown away both the Packers and Rams.

I don’t think Mike McCarthy is gonna get a job if he doesn’t get the saints job. If the Saints hire Aaron Glenn, I think McCarthy is shut out this cycle. But I don’t know why he’d choose the Saints over the Jets given the Saints awful cap situation. Then again Woody Johnson can’t be ideal to work with.

Thanks. I missed @ManuManu's post. I never thought Goedert was at fault even with my uncertainty about the LOS rule on the play. I thought Becton had a mixed game, with some mistakes - like that one and a blitz pickup where he looked left rather than right - and some monster plays as well. The mistakes were mental errors that can be corrected. Physically, he's just a beast. Pancakes every week.

They never had a formal interview. It was just a preliminary discussion but didn't advance past that yet. Sanders committed to staying in college, so we'll see if that's true or not.

Rooney Rule is also two minority candidates now, so Saleh and Frazier both qualify.

They need to maybe implement an end around or something to get the ball in AJ’s hands early

Have they run a reverse the entire year??

It seems like AJ's catches are all straight Go Patterns, or Slants.

Would love to see some crossing routes this week. Especially to the TEs.

There's also a ton of first round talent on the Lions offense.

"Terrible decision" is overstating it, but it's very risky considering where the Bears are in their life cycle.  I don't agree it's a talented roster (it could be if Odunze breaks out).  They're solid at RB with Swift and Roschon Johnson, Moore and Odunze at WR.  Their OL is not good, and I think Caleb Williams needs a lot of work.  It's always dependent on how much time the Bears are willing to give Johnson to build a culture.  Their track record is not very good at being patient and, although DET had an excellent regular season, they were shown the door early in the playoffs.

Dan Quinn was a really good head coaching hire by Washington because he'd been to the Super Bowl as a DC with the Chickens and and again as a head coach in ATL.  Easier to see how he's built a culture quickly in WASH.

I agree Moore isn’t special but the Herbert part doesn’t hold cause he only played 13 games. He was on pace for 4098 yards, 26 tds and 9 ints if he played all 17. The issue was the chargers got decimated by injuries in 2023 and Moore really didn’t show anything special prior to the injuries. Herbert was the same Herbert he had been prior to his arrival

Happy Dr. MLK day everyone!
