EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Hurts had better numbers, as did both Brown and Smith, prior to Moore.   Hurts has regressed under Moore.  Under Steichen, Hurts was amazing.  Let's recall the 2022 Hurts MVP caliber season: 15 games, 3701 passing yards, 22 TD, 6 INT, 760 yards rushing, 13 TD.

Moore had everybody's favorite last season in San Diego.  Herbert under Moore: 3137 passing yards, 20 TD, 7 INT. (That stat line looks familiar).

BTW, Herbert's other 4 seasons without Moore: 4331- 31/10; 5014, 38/15; 4739- 25/10; 3870 - 23/10.

Moore ain't special.

Hurts began his regression last year with Johnson. Who turns out to be just fine.

Moore is just Jalens latest victim.

Who will be next?

I was thinking the same thing. I just don’t get it. Is he really that "bad” or out of shape to only play 17 snaps in a playoff game?

The contributors to Davis' low snap count are:

Carter is a beast, probably the best player on the D and is showing he is capable of playing a full game. He never comes off the field which means the other guys in the rotation snaps are limited to roatating at other DT spot.

Davis is a good run player but hasnt developed as a pass rusher. Williams is a better overall player, especially for passing downs so he gets the more neutral downs (pass or run) as well as some obvious passing downs. Ojomo is also better pass rusher than Davis so he getting the passing downs snaps which WIlliams doesn't play over him as well.

I agree Moore isn’t special but the Herbert part doesn’t hold cause he only played 13 games. He was on pace for 4098 yards, 26 tds and 9 ints. The issue was the chargers got decimated by injuries in 2023 and Moore really didn’t show anything special prior to the injuries.

No one wants context when defending Jalen. There's never been a rational argument for him.  Just strawman and disingenuous out of context sampling of statistics.

I don't believe in that extra motivation stuff. I think it lasts for one or two plays and then it's just football. I'm reminded of Mike Tyson's comment that "Everybody's got a plan until they punched in the face." What gives the "extra motivation" nonsense credibility is that, when the team or player who was insulted does win, they crow about it. When they don't win, nobody remembers the extra motivation.

I did notice Carter on one play early in the game.  He took on a double team AND made the tackle of Kyren Williams for a short gain.

Absolute minimal.

Why he can't develop as a pass rusher or stay on the field? No idea.  It's unfortunate.  He's wasting immense talent and I don't think see can keep/pay him in this role when time comes.  Next year is his last chance to show he can be used more.

I guess if the defense stays the same, Davis will not be extended. He just doesn’t do enough compared to the others to justify a "big” extension. Wouldn’t say bust, but definitely a disappointment.

Yep, makes more sende to allocate that money to Milton and plan to let Davis walk when he hits free agency

His answer on the Daniels question was spot-on.  You can't really rank a rookie QB top 5 in the league until you see what he does year-to-year.  The league will adjust, just like it adjusted to Hurts.

His comment about "no chance in hell" is just a former player talking.  From what I've seen of Joyner as an analyst he doesn't see any negatives in Hurts, so he feels Barkley, Hurts, and the defense will be enough against Washington.  I'm confident in Barkley, reasonably confident in the defense, less so in Hurts.

You guys do need a deep threat every so often to keep the safety back, today maybe wasn't the day to go deep at all, idk. In the end it didn't matter because SB poppeda couple of long runs and was consistent enough...

I wonder if signing Campbell to the active roster might go towards that. Campbell has some speed.

Elmer Fudd, most likely.

Might have made the most sense for Johnson; terrible decision by the Bears .... again.

Let's hear why?

I don't feel good about this one. Especially since Hurts can't run along with not being able to pass. I could see the kid shredding the D as well.

Yeah, I dont know. He wasnt much of a pass rusher in college either but he has athletic traits which he showed at the combine which pointed to potential as a pass rusher. The hope was he would turn into a Dexter Lawrence type guy but for whatever reason, it hasnt happened.

Pfft who cares. They’re getting smoked either way.

He is also not an Eagle anymore. If commentators get people fired up with extra motivation the Birds will have plenty this week.

This is what worries me about next week. Commanders will go for it on any 4th and relatively short (say 4 or under) from around the halfway line onwards. And Daniels is incredibly good at being successful on those plays.

The trick to beating them is either stopping their drives before they get going i.e. on their half or keeping them out of 4th and manageable situations e.g. we cant let them pick up 5 or 6 yards in 3rd and 8 situations. We did this really well in the first game agaisnt them.

I don't know how much of an effect it actually has but the Eagles certainly use it whenever they can

Redskins losing their best offensive lineman Cosmi is gonna be a problem. Carter will be eatin. Think Jayden comes back to earth this week. He has the microscope on him now on the big stage. He's a rookie and will take his lumps at last. Think he fares okay, but not enough to carry you over the top. Redskins, your time is up!

They don’t need extra as it’s nfc title game but i got to imagine we are going to see a super focused eagles team. This commanders team basically celebrated like they won the Sb beating our backup Pickett and it got chippy. I actually think we get our best offensive performance in this game

We've been bad recently on 3rd and long playing soft and giving up enough yards to give teams 4th and short, which they usually convert.  Need to be more aggressive on 3rd down keeping them further from the sticks.

He hasn't played a single offensive snap since they signed him. And only 2 ST snaps last week, nothing yesterday. Seems like his role is purely for emergency.

You mean besides winning a s-ton of games?  My, that is irrational.  And I don't even think he is a great QB.  Middle of the road passing talent, top end winning talent.
