It's this kind of stuff that worries me with Burks. Runs himself right into the LG when the path to the QB is as wide open as it can get. Also, throws like this are the reason why I keep saying Stafford is the best in the conference.

Thankfully the Eagles held on at the end otherwise I wouldn’t be saying this, but Stafford is awesome to watch.

It drives me nuts when he gets 3 to 4 seconds in the pocket and doesn't make a throw or decision.  Then he starts looking all around and run away while defenders are closing in on him.

His decision making sucks.  It's what cost us the safety vs the Rams.

If his decision making sucked then he wouldn't have as few pf turnovers as he has and the Eagles wouldn't have as many wins as they have or be in thr NFC Championship Game for the 2nd time in 2 years or in the playoffs 4 years in a row now.

Correct.

Is it context when it literally is a team stat?

Ultimately, it’s the only stat that matters.

Wasn't asking for it to

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing

For years when he was in DET, it was amusing to hear about all the QBs that were apparently better than him because he hadn't "won anything" yet but guys like Eli and Flacco had. It was mind numbing to hear someone with a straight face try to claim a player like Joe Flacco was a better QB than Stafford. I once got into a lengthy argument with a co-worker who regularly ished on the Lions (one of those fans who is never happy with their own team and always blames the QB, in case that doesn't sound familiar) and he was losing his mind because I kept saying Stafford was a better QB than Andrew Luck. Years later after Stafford finally gets a ring, his friend texts me after the super bowl and says, "I guess that's settled, lol."

Not sure the loss of Sam Cosmi has been stated in here enough.  Dude was playing at an almost All-Pro level this year.  Gotta hope that could be a big difference for Carter, Williams, etc.

If Eagles win Sunday, BG will be back for the Super Bowl.

I think it will be a completely different game than either. The first game was a short week and Daniels had busted ribs. He was pretty clearly playing in pain. The second game Hurts got knocked out early. Without knowing how serious Hurts knee is, both QBs should be playing the whole game. Both teams should have a good feel about what the other wants to do. My few concerns is our offense is very simplistic. Eagles can still succeed but it will be just doing what they want very well instead of tricking or confusing the Commanders. On defense, Fangio seems to have a little trouble with mobile QBs. I have faith he can make adjustments. On the same hand, Washington seen his defense twice and did much better the second time. Weird game for sure but they found offensive success.

I really would like to see them change up looks and run more out of under center.  I think a lot of it depends on Hurts's mobility but they need to think about small changes to disguise what they are doing.  Additionally, they need to work on the screen game.  For as good as our OL is, I am perplexed why they can't run a simple screen on consistent basis.

"The read option is dead" as Kenny G picks up an easy 10 yards because the DE crashes in on Hurts this time, after burning them on the first drive of the game for a 44 TD on the exact same play

The second point, Hurst in his 4 playoff wins has thrown for less than 154 yards.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Moore ever really had much of a screen game in SD or DAL, and we know our screen game took a major nose dive after Steichen left so obviously Sirianni isn't much help there. And before the usual suspects chime in, no, a screen pass is not something limited by the QB's ability. It's strictly a play design issue. If anything it's limited by the talent and mobility of your OL, but again, I think we don't have any issues there either.

Yup.  That was my quote.  And as I clarified, I was referring to the basic RO where it's inside zone and they read the DE.  Defenses had solved that by scraping the LB to the edge while the DE crashed.

What this play is QB Counter Bash.  Hurts checks to it, as you see Gainwell shift to Hurts' other side.  He sees that LA is light on our right side, with a NCB in run support.  The play pulls the RG and RT to the left, right into the strength of the LA defense.  Hurst was never going to keep it.  He wants to have Gainwell in the open field against lighter defenders.

Joe Schoen's JAGs for All-Pros 3-for-1 special strategy continues to provide entertainment.

They can do TE screens but a WR screen is a death sentence for whatever reason

Lol he can make FG's but miss PAT's

Some thoughts on a game I watched in a hotel room in Maui (got home after midnight PST last night, so my brain is still waking up). All in all, it was somehow both very encouraging and frustrating at the same time. It felt exactly like the Jacksonville game -- we dominated yet had to hold on at the end.

OFFENSE

- OVERALL: this was a marked improvement from the Green Bay game, which was a low bar, but still. Being honest about it, we should have scored 40+. Jake missed 2 extra points. Lane false start on the brotherly shove. AJ drop on the back shoulder throw. That's 13 points right there, and that doesn't include Jalen taking sacks to knock us out of FG range twice in the 2nd quarter. We went from 290 yards against GB to 350 against LAR, but it was 413 gross yards (before sack yardage lost) on Sunday vs. 300 against GB.

- I'm giving Jalen a C- for this game. It wasn't ALL bad -- the TD run was awesome, and the 2 Barkley long TD runs were checks by Jalen at the line. He did throw it down the field finally (Smith unnecessary roughness, couple shots to AJ), and 15/20 with no turnovers will work. But the sacks. My God, the sacks. You just can't let that happen 7 times. I feel like he is so determined not to turn it over that he is simply eating sacks unless it is wide open. But on the safety, Goedert is open. On another sack Smitty is running wide open. Either he's being too conservative or just not seeing the field, or a combination of both. I won't say we can't keep winning this way, because we have, but we are making it more difficult and taking points off the board. With 413 gross yards, including 285 on the ground, you have to score more than 28.

- Kellen spent too much time on job interviews, because the play calling at times was just ridiculous. The safety was on Jalen, but you have a hobbled QB backed up - run the ball. And the 2nd down call on our last drive -- what the hell? Barkley has been unstoppable and we go roll out to the left with an injured QB? Run it, and then have Jalen throw from the pocket on 3rd down (AJ slant). Smart of Jalen to take that sack and keep the clock running at least.

- AJ doesn't drop a pass all year, drops 2 in this game. Both were killer drops as well on 2nd down. Not sure if it is the conditions, the knee, or just one of those days. But when the opportunities are limited, you can't drop them. Read some more pages of that book.

- I'm just out of things to say about Saquon. The man isn't human. His vision and breakaway speed are absurd.

- The OL played well, which is odd to say on a day when the QB was sacked 7 times. 285 on the ground, and most of those sacks Jalen had time. Becton did seem to struggle in pass protection but was a monster on runs.

- Please just stay healthy for 2 more games Goedert. That's all we need. 2 games. And run more screens to him (maybe without Becton down field).

- Remember, in their last 4 games, this Rams defense gave up 6, 9, 9 and 9 points (not including week 18 game played by backups). The only "good" offense was the Vikings with Sam Darnold, but still...they were on fire and we dropped 28 that should have been 41. The sky isn't falling, and we are close.

DEFENSE

- Jalen Carter is the best DT in football. Sorry Chris Jones. And Nolan Smith is quickly becoming an elite edge rusher. The 2023 1st round was a masterpiece by Howie. Those 2 are lethal on stunts and basically dominated the game. And they both caused fumbles, which is becoming a recurring theme.

- Moro Ojomo and Jalyx Hunt making plays in playoff games...insane. The depth and youth on our D line is just amazing. To lose Cox, Hargrave, Reddick, BG (injury), Suh and Joseph in 2 years and still have this deep and dominant a D line is amazing.  We are younger, cheaper and better.

- Oren Burks held up much better than I expected. Especially in coverage, and he made some nice plays in the backfield as well. Thought we'd see a lot more Trotter. 2 tackles for loss, no blown coverage assignments -- just a solid game.

- Slay, Rodgers and Coop all dropped picks that they should have had. Gotta make those plays.

- Rodgers filled in well for Q overall, but I really hope the rookie is back next week.

- I love Fangio, but why with the soft prevent right away after the Barkley TD. Stafford is too good and has too much experience to make it easy for him like that. Fangio is too quick to just drop back and play soft.

Overall, this was so close to being a complete blowout (offense leaving points on the field, defense dropping picks). If they can bring it all together...watch out. Anyway, flights booked and tickets purchased; see you in Philly Sunday.

Shane Haff is lighting up Moore on twitter right now

Is there a hot read that Hurts can check to that he doesn't? Are receivers running the right routes? Finally, he looked at Dotson and could have thrown to him albeit the defender could make a play on the ball.  He moved to Wilson and Wilson has leverage on his DB. He could have thrown to him but does not.  Then he runs out of time.  Hurts needs to have a better internal clock on this play.  He could just throw it away if he doesn't want to throw the first read which looks like it was to Dotson.  He should know they are sending an extra pass rusher.  I agree with Haff that the routes don't take advantage of the coverage but that isn't most of the reason there's a negative result on this play.

RO can be utilized on both inside or outside zone runs. It's never been limited to just inside zone.
