I don’t know how the contract structured, but if I were the Jaguars I’d think about trading him if somebody’s gonna give me valuable draft picks. I feel like there’s somebody’s gonna be left out in the dark at Qb and here’s always one team that’ll give up something. So if you could get Trevor Lawrence out of there and get draft picks then it is probably the better route to go. Just be bad for next year and hope that there’s a better quarterback at top of the class.

He got a $37.5mm signing bonus with $30mm left to be charged off after this year. He is due a $35mm option bonus on March 23rd every year from 2025-2028. So if they trade him before 3/23/25, the dead cap hit is only $30 million, but it jumps to $65 million after that. The problem is the team trading for him, before 3/23/25, is taking on $104.5 million fully guaranteed (2025 salary/option bonus +2026 salary/option bonus + $29M of 2027 compensation), and the remaining $12mm of his 2027 comp guarantees the 5th league day of 2026 and all $46 million of 2028 guarantees on the 5th league day of 2027. So you trade for him, and if you cut him after 2027 before the $46mm for 2028 is guaranteed, you paid him $75mm for 2 years (500k workout bonus each year), and your dead money is $21mm from the 2025 bonus, $28mm from the 2026 bonus and $41mm in 2027 gteed comp -- $90mm dead money unless you keep him and kick in the 2028 guarantee.

What are you getting for that? Maybe a 3rd rounder?

I think to move Lawrence, the Jags will have to pay the 2025 option bonus of $35mm and eat it right away -- $65mm cap hit. So then it is only $69mm in dead money to the acquirer if they dump him after 2 years ($28mm from the 2026 option bonus and the $41mm for 2027).

That’s a new one… Clearly something you do on the reg.

Berman reiterated again today what I prophesied back when he originally hurt it, and that's if the Eagles win Sunday, bet on BG being activated for the Super Bowl.

I wish it was this game. He's exactly what we need to slow down Daniels: pocket pusher for him in the pocket.

I’m guessing a 3rd and based off performance conditions can become higher

People make this mistake every year either thinking the schedule is too easy or too hard.  In reality, so much changes year to year in the league that you can only really assess a couple of the games with any certainty.

The schedule is always too hard... until its too easy.   Or is it too easy, until its too hard?

And...he has a no trade clause.

Well well well.

Just makes it more complicated as he has to want to go to the team that actually will take on his contract. Maybe the Raiders?

was as pumped for Nolan as I was for Carter. Obviously he is taking longer to grow into the NFL, but he's an extremely smart player and the light has turned on for him. Makes me feel much better about our rotation next year, but still want to see another day 1 guy added to the EDGE.

Agreed.  Given the reality that we are picking no better than 29, my realistic (semi optimistic) targets are Shemar Stewart from Texas A&M and Landon Jackson from Arkansas. I wouldn’t be upset if Howie got both of them

Exactly who i was thinking tbh. Curious as to what Brady thinks of him. I could see the raiders interested in him or Kyler Murray if the cardinals made him available.

It might be the worst job in a long time. Terrible owner. The horrible GM was just fired, but now you have no idea who they are bringing in. And easily one of the 5 worst contracts in the NFL. You can't really rebuild given the Lawrence contract, so you're singing up to suck and be fired by an impatient owner within 3 years. The new GM won't stand up for you since he will likely be hired after the coach, so he can say he needs to bring in his own guy.

They got the right place with Balke but have shot themselves in the foot a bit by waiting so long to do it.....no one wants to work with that guy, and now they are behind the GM hiring cycle

Covey back for Sunday?

Cameron Erving is an interesting sign to bring onto the PS this late in the year.....he is 32 so its not like its a move to get a younger guy for next year.

I think points to Eagles not really being comfortable with Toth/Gates as the backup centre - Erving has played all over the line from OT to C.

Nolan Smith was a guy I liked a lot on draft night... his quiet 2023 made me hesitant, and made me question him during the bye week this year... but the second half of his 2024 has made him, IMO, into a guy who will likely be a Pro Bowler in a year if he maintains what he's done over the last 10 weeks through the full season next year.   He has erased any doubt that anyone can offer.

Can't bring him in until we get rid of Moore.

Or someone takes him off our hands

Very well said.  That tracks my thoughts as well.  I was ecstatic on Draft night, but saw that enthusiasm wane all of Year One.  Redemption tastes sweet .
