Not the only one.  I do worry about him running out of gas or getting hurt towards the end of the season.

The solution to that problem is getting the #1 seed and getting that first round bye.

He might want to play OT (and get paid as one),  but I think his NFL market will be set at OG.  The NFL as a whole has a lot respect for Jeff Stoutland.  I think they will almost uniformly agree that that’s his best position going forward.  His upside value will be that he can play tackle if needed.

Could be.

I am not losing sight of the #1 seed, but the #2 seed is very clinchable before week 18. Resting our starters then would be the consolation prize,

GB game in 2 weeks looms large (not sure if the Bears have played well enough for the trap).

Throwing this out for debate...

What did John Madden do as a coach that Sirianni isn't being asked to do?

When Madden was coaching the Raiders...

  • Stabler called the plays
  • There weren't two-point conversion or replay challenge decisions
  • He had 11 Hall of Famers play for him (Biletnikoff, Blanda, Branch, Casper, Willie Brown, Guy, Hendricks, Otto, Shell, Stabler, Upshaw)

He inherited a Raider team that had gone 12-2 the previous season.  He had lots of talent to work with.  He wasn't known for any scheme or innovation.  He didn't have to deal with as much game management as today.

Thoughts?

Madden worked his way up on the defensive side of the ball, so it wouldn't be expected for him to be calling offensive plays. You'd need to confirm whether he or his DC called the defensive plays for this analogy to make sense. You also seem to be omitting the entire week of preperation that goes into it (scouting the opponent, self-scouting, gameplanning, etc.)

That's not to say Sirianni is incapable of winning a super bowl with the right pieces in place like Madden had (hell, Sirianni was pretty damn close to doing just that a couple years ago.) Just that maybe quite a few other coaches could've done the same all else being equal.

Yeah… But can Sirianni carve a turkey with his bare hand?

Yup.  Most definitely.   Eagles are currently 3 games up on the NFC South and West, with 6 games to play.

Eagles have Ravens, Steelers and Washington as 'tough' games.  They have Carolina, Dallas and Giants as 'games they should win'.

Falcons final slate of games: Chargers, @Vikings, @Raiders, Giants, @Washington, Panthers.  They could easily drop 4 of those games.   Minimum of 2 is more likely.

Seattle final games: @Jets, @Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, @Bears, @Rams.  They could also drop as many as 4 of these games.  And there's a guarantee that both the Cardinals and Seahawks CAN'T win out.

Cardinals final games: @Vikings, Seahawks, Patriots, @Panthers, @Rams, 49ers.  There's 4 losable games in that mix as well... they are also likely to drop at least 2.

Eagles can go 2-3 in the tough games and 2-3 in the easy games (sitting players in the final week being the goal) and would only need one loss from Falcons, Seahawks and Cardinals each to clinch #2 overall.  The way I see it, in 2 weeks, we'll know where the Eagles really are, because I expect 2 of the 3 teams (ATL, SEA and AZ) to lose at least 1 game in that stretch.

Ideally, we want the Chargers and Vikings to win this week, and then Cards to take care of the Seahawks after that.

The league is clear on how they want to try and defend the Eagles: stuff the box and make Hurts throw to win.

Barkley is 19th in the league in facing stacked boxes.

The league is telling you what Jalen Hurts is. Whether you listen or not is up to you.

I don’t know if there’s a scenario that would allow them to start resting guys while also clinching the #1 seed. That battle can come down to the final week. They’re going to have to make a decision if the #1 seed is more important or making sure Barkley is fresh for the playoffs and settling for the 2. And they’ll choose the 1 seed.

It’s part of the reason why dropping a game to Baltimore or Pittsburgh wouldn’t be the end of the world. Then they can start to taper Barkley down the last couple of weeks. But they can’t have that hypothetical NFC title game in Detroit if it comes down to that. It needs to be in Philly with hopefully cold weather.

Siri was asked about resting him, he said that they don't do that in games, they use the practice week for rest and recovery and in the games you do whatever it takes to win, if that means giving Saquon a lot of carries so be it. There aren't that many games, every game counts so he will do what is needed to win.

We'll see if they are in position to rest starters in the final game or not, or maybe rest him in the 4th quarter with leads.

We still need to take care of the division.  Accepting a loss to the Giants week 18 would offset the advantage we gained when the Commanders lost to the Cowboys.

Any 3-3 scenario over the remaining six games where we lose the Giants would also have to include a win over the Commanders, unless Washington decides to lose to Tennessee, New Orleans, or Atlanta before week 18.

You are assuming that Sirianni isn't involved in the weekly preparation?  I can guarantee that Sirianni is involved in the game planning.

If not, all of the blame he gets for the offense would be unwarranted.  :smoke:

We have a 2.5 game lead over them.

In the scenario I laid out... as long as the Eagles win 2 of the 3 games against Ravens, Washington and Pittsburgh and 2 out of 3 games against the Panthers, Cowboys and Giants, they win the division over Washington, EVEN if Washington wins out and the game the Eagles drop is to Washington of that 2 out of 3 games.  It might be tougher to beat both Baltimore and Pittsburgh than Washington, but that still works out for the Eagles to win the division.

If they only win 1 of the 3 tough games that remain, only then would another loss be needed by Washington.  But if that 1 win is against Washington and they lose the other two to Baltimore and Pittsburgh, they still win the division with just 2 out of 3 wins in the other 3 if Washington wins all the rest of their games besides the Eagles' game.   Eagles would be 12-5, Washington would be at best 11-6.  Eagles could even drop the game to the Cowboys as well if that happened and fall to 11-6, because they'd then have the tiebreaker over Washington head to head.

I didn't say he wasn't involved at all, but you would need to compare the level of involvement for it to be an apples to apples comparison. Same reason why mentioning Stabler calling offensive plays isn't really relevant to the analogy.

I don't think they need to limit him. He's not taking near the beating Henry and other RBs are because of the Oline

Here are his stats this season. https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/4040715/jalen-hurts

If I look at the rating in the last 7 games, I wonder if Jalen Hurts is telling the league who he is?

He's running barely touched, sometimes not touched at all. The O line is playing great. Plus he has such speed and quickness once he hits open space he's gone. He's also have a lot of fun out there, he's rejuvenated.

Not clear on the live broadcast and they never showed a replay. In any case, he has errored far too many times being overly aggressive in the red zone so what I see is progress.

It seems we may have been talking about different plays.  But still,  what is see is an incredibly low bar.

Will be a great game either way, an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.

I don't know where you get your data, but the Eagles are 1st in Rushing and the Ravens are 2nd.

He's hardly having to throw the ball...

Which is both fine in my opinion and also not a situation of his creation.

Grade a player on what he has actually done on the field, not on a Madden comparison.
