But you get my point.

This Blog went through months of debate on what a "mobile" QB meant.  The literal meaning and the implied meaning.

IMO, game manager implies a "get-out-of-the-way" QB.  That isn't what Hurts is.

Well said.  I agree with your final paragraph  100%.

You should accept the fact that Hurts can still be the best QB in the NFC without being elite.

Elite QBs don't go 11/19 for 119 yards.

He is doing a great job at being the Eagles QB and can lead us to Super Bowl the way he is playing.

But it is not Elite.

QB play around the league isn't what it used to be. Some fans are still living in the days of Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers in his prime, Big Ben, Philip Rivers...

Yesterday they put up the MVP race on the screen. It included Jared Goff.

The complaints I've seen mentioned are that he's paid to be something he's not

I think that's a fair point, but it's a sunk cost.  He is what what he is and that works with this roster.  Will I be enthusiastic to extend his contract for big $ in a couple years, when he's another few steps slower?  Probably not.  Of course, handing off the ball is the best thing for his longevity given that he has plateaued as a passer.

What is worse is the non stop holding on Carter.  Even when it is obvious they are not calling holding on the opposing OL.  It is getting ridiculous at this point.  If I were the Eagles, I would put together a tape of all non called holds against him to send to the league.  It might take a whole day to watch

The logical follow on question to your point is "Did Aaron Donald see the same no calls pattern?”

This is not directed at you, but because it's an argument people often make:

Let go of the "he's not playing like a $250m QB." Many of you cite his contract as if it's your money, when Howie structured it in a way that he has afforded extensions to Smitty, Dickerson and signed Barkley in addition to having AJ Brown. NFL contracts for QBs are insane. Trevor Lawrence has a $275m contract, Herbert $262m (he currently has less yards, less TDs and more INTs than Hurts), Dak $240m, Kyler Murray & Deshaun Watson both $230m. Teams overpay QBs. Plus Hurts is back loaded and Howie always restructures, he was also able to get get out of the Wentz situation 1 year after giving him a big contract.

Yeah, we don't believe you.  Lawrence was clearly sliding, Al-Shaair was clearly coming in low because he was trying to lay a huge hit to a QB that was giving himself up.

Plateaued? Highest YPA of his career. Highest completion percentage. Interceptions down. Looks like improvement to me.

Run game isn't, but the passing seems to be. From what has been reported they dumbed things down and asked him to do less which is why the turnovers have been down.

Asked him to do less is not "dumbing down”. It is smartening up.

Because he isn't capable of more? Agree.

Someone mentioned it earlier but he's been checking into positive plays regularly this year. That was a major concern his first few years. He can read defenses much better now.

Versus '22?  I disagree.  I think we've just settled into a style of play that works for him with better talent.

Yeah it seems the days of those QBs are gone, at least for now.

You had QBs throwing for 5,000 plus yards not too long ago.  I was thinking the way the position was going that we'd see a 6,000 yard passer but it doesn't seem to be the case anymore.   Defenses have adjusted and aren't letting teams throw all over the field as much.

I mean Burrow throws for a ton of yards but his team keeps losing.

No. It has not been so reported. I'm calling BS. I recall some noises to that effect in 2022 and perhaps at some point in 2023, but certainly not this year. I recall lots of whining about Hurts never using the middle of the field but that's past tense now too. We run more and pass less but that is because we run so well and because it is tougher on the other team. You want proof? Look at how we perform in the fourth quarter. Another thing: Hurts probably reads more than most QBs because our system is so diverse. And once we figure out the other team's defense, we go no-huddle, and that's on Hurts.

In keeping with the nonsense that has been tossed out as received knowledge, it's been argued here that Lamar is not a good QB. Two MVPs, second in the league in passing. WTF does anyone want? How do we define what is a good QB?

I absolutely would not want Lamar as the Eagles QB. Another guy who runs but isn't a QB who wins crap. Puts up great stats in the regular season that doesn't translate in the playoffs.

I don't care what we call Hurts.  Ultimately, the team is winning in convincing fashion and getting it done.  I'm just going to enjoy this ride...

Just something else that came to mind last night...

Jake had a really bad game a while back.  Since then, he's hitting dead center on these kicks.  So glad to see that snap back quickly, as opposed to what is continuing to happen in Baltimore with Tucker.  He's been so automatic for so long, but right now, he's terrible.

Technically all QBs are game managers.

Again, I think that folks are using simplified to mean run more / throw less.  Which, ironically, is exactly what this fanbase wants.

Except for the part of the fanbase that plays Fantasy.  They bemoan the reduced passing yards.

Hurts deal is back loaded and Howie ALWAYS restructures these guys. Crying that Hurts makes $250m is stupid. What do you care? Howie will either restructure, Hurts could take a pay cut like some other QBs have in the past to allow the team to retain talent, or he could be traded or cut if need be down the road. Total contract values are meaningless. Even true elite players like Lane Johnson are continually restructured. Howie moves the cap around as he needs to, and makes sure players get paid.

Herbert's contract is $262m. What has that gotten them? He's made the playoffs once in 5 seasons and lost in the wild card round. Granted, the AFC has a lot of competition but still. QB contracts are always ridiculous.

@FranklinFldEBUpper Has Mann been doing the KOs all year?

Yes.

Ah, there goes the undisclosed injury angle.  Thanks!

@FranklinFldEBUpper nvm.

Hurts has thrown for 2,494 yards and 68.4 completion %

Josh Allen has thrown for 2,691 yards and 64.6% completion %

Game managers at work!

How is this debate continuing. OK, let's end this. None of these are in order.

QBs that are inarguably, definitively better than Jalen Hurts: Mahomes, Allen, Burrow and Jackson. We'll call them the elite QBs. That's not Hurts, and 4 is enough to call elite. (4)

QBs that are in the same bucket: Goff, Love, Dak (when healthy), Stafford, Stroud, Herbert. Let's call this group pro bowl caliber. (7 including Hurts)

Guys just below that group: Tua, Wilson, Darnold, Cousins, Baker, Geno, Murray, Purdy. Let's call this the average to above average group. (8)

Too young: Maye, Daniels, Williams, Richardson, Nix, Young (6)

Trash: ARod (it's over), Watson, Levis, Lawrence, whoever is starting for the Raiders, whoever is starting for the Giants, Carr (7)

Hurts is somewhere between the 5th and 11th best QB in football. At $51mm AAV, he is the 9th highest paid QB. So it is inline.

You wanna be mad, be a Jags fan and live with that Lawrence contract.

I think it's better to contextualize "game manager" as a skill set, not a "type" of QB.  Like Caleb Williams throws a good ball, but at this stage of his career is a bad game manager. Young Josh Allen had great mobility and an absolute cannon for an arm but was a trash game manager. Hurts has become a good game manager but that also not his only plus skill set.
